Originally, I was thinking of getting a Sigma or Tamron 17-50mm zoom, but wandered into other options. After pondering the numerous positive reviews and comments, I opted for an FA 43. Here's an early test shot. I'm happy with it!

ISO 100, f/1.9, 1/200, multisegment AE + 1 EV.

@house, I'll agree with you about the challenges that the DA 15 presents in the edges and corners. I'll wonder occasionally whether my technique is way off, but looking at images taken by others reconfirms the nature of this lens.

So, I use the strengths of the DA 15 Limited to advantage - I use it mainly as a 'foreground lens' that allows me to capture a main subject while including the environment in the picture. Here are a couple of examples. Sorry, I don't have suggestions for architecture shots.

Welcome to Pentax Forums, CharLac.

Your camera path seems similar to mine. I started with an Olympus OM-10, went through several decent Canon point-and-shoots, and migrated to a K-7. Now I use a K-3 II.

Look forward to seeing your pictures of the Ottawa area!

Item for Sale
SMC Pentax K 28mm f/3.5 full-frame lens, with rare original hood

Asking Price
195.00 USD

Item Location
Ottawa, Ontario (Canada)

Item Description
The manual focus SMC Pentax 28/3.5 is renowned for its exceptional optical qualities – sharpness, well-controlled aberrations, high contrast, superlative colour reproduction, and pleasant bokeh. Not to be confused with the Pentax-M 28mm varieties, the K 28/3.5 consistently receives high marks owing to its optical formula of 8 elements in 7 groups. Like others in the ‘K’ series, this lens has a robust build quality and offers excellent handling.

Pentax Forums reviews: SMC Pentax 28mm F3.5 Reviews - K Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

The lens for sale includes the rare original rectangular hood.

Glass. Clean and clear; no haze or fungus. Some internal dust. The front element has one micro-scratch at the periphery near the ‘SMC’ marking – it’s not readily apparent upon inspection; please see the close-up picture. I have not observed any artifacts or effect on image quality in any lighting condition.

Body and mechanical. The body shows minimal normal signs of wear. No dings or dents. Some light abrasions mainly on the aperture ring. The rubber focus ring is clean and secure. The mount is solid and the aperture blades are snappy and free of oil or residue. The manual focus action is wonderfully smooth across the entire range and the aperture-ring ‘clicks’ are positive.

Hood. The plastic hood is in excellent condition. No cracks, dings or scuff marks. The original gloss finish shows normal superficial signs of use. The interior retains its matte finish. The hood mounts with a simple push and the spring clips function properly.

As other Pentax shooters know, this is a remarkable lens. While the lens by itself is seen only occasionally on the market these days, the included hood makes this one a rare set.

Included: Lens; Pentax original front and rear caps; hood.

Yet another stupid comment by a non believer...

Was his comment intended to suggest that there is something wrong with the sensor (all gunked up, perhaps?) or was he implying it's a lousy camera to begin with? If the latter, his comment smacks of totally unprofessional behavior, bad manners, and lack of respect for customers. His action to try to 'unscrew' the lens speaks of his incompetence - it's not hard to figure out a bayonet mount.

While you could raise the issue with his manager, it's probably better to let it rest and walk away shaking your head like you did. I imagine you felt like telling the guy to p*ss off, but it's hard to get satisfaction in this type of situation.

Anyways, WE know the quality of our cameras!

My hobby is photography, not videography. At the moment, I have no interest in producing videos. Perhaps I might get interested in the future, but that would be a different hobby line. The evolution of the Pentax brand from digital APS-C photography towards full-frame APSC photography - while maintaining the APS-C format - is very different than an evolution towards video. I just can't see myself making a 10-minute 4K video of a landscape scene or cityscape. However, I can understand that others need a capability for photos and videos.

I don't think I would have any issue with future sensors being video-oriented, as long as they are also image-oriented and provide an excellent image-taking capability.

Excuse me, while I wipe the drool off my keyboard.

That's a whole lot of Pentax goodness! I have the S-M-C 85/1.8, which I acquired in a Spotmatic/4-lens basket at a thrift shop several years ago.

As for your weather and boredom, may I prescribe several hours listening to The Shipping Forecast? ;)

Weather here is minus 1 C and cloudy. We've been enjoying unseasonably mild temperatures, and our snow is melting nicely. (Sorry).

Item Description
Tamron-F 1.4x Pz-AF MC4 Autofocus Teleconverter, Pentax K mount

The Tamron 1.4x Pz-AF TC is a less-expensive alternative to the Pentax-DA version, and it’s compatible with Pentax full-frame and APS-C cameras.

Many users have reported favorable results with this teleconverter. Highly recommended, it often receives top ratings against other third-party devices. Featuring multi-coated glass, it’s a good, lightweight option for extending the reach of your telephoto lenses. The Pentax Pz-AF version is hard to find; when available, it tends to sell quickly.

I have not done extensive tests. It works and gives excellent results with my DA 18-135mm lens and screwdrive-converted DA* 50-135. Some users of this model have found that autofocus is inconsistent with the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 HSM II or the Pentax DA* 300mm, but other users seem fine with the DA* 300 and DA* 200. It works consistently with many other lenses, both AF and manual focus.

Glass: Very good condition. Clean and clear; no haze or fungus; some internal dust specks. I see three tiny marks on the elements: one is a small scratch on an outer element surface, the others are possibly scratches or dust. Please see the images. These are practically superficial and I have not noticed any artifacts or effect on image quality even when shooting in bright conditions.

Body and Mechanical: Excellent condition. Very clean; no nicks, dents, scratches, or other flaws. Minimal signs of use; nothing remarkable. The mounts are solid and the electrical contacts work fine.

Included: Tamron-F 1.4x TC, original front cap, Pentax flanged rear cap (covers the contacts).

Price: Because of the noted marks, I am asking a lower price than is typically realized for this desirable TC.

"PENTAX K-1 II with a newly designed Cross Tilt Flexible LCD Monitor"...wait, what?

In addition to the "newly designed" LCD monitor reported in the Facebook post, Ricoh is introducing a new "CMOS Censor" as seen at the bottom of the K-1 II brochure in @BirdDude007 's fourth image in his WPPI report. See: Visited the Ricoh booth today at the WPPI convention here in Vegas - PentaxForums.com

Intentional or a typo? I would guess that this revolutionary device uses artificial intelligence to decide which of your images should be suppressed before storing on the SD card. ;)

Who proofreads this stuff?

A typo is relatively minor compared to the real news of a new camera and lenses, but they really should do a better job when showcasing their goods.

So, as @Kunzite suggests, we should ask ourselves at what point after its design or creation does something cease to be 'new'? A month? two months? Two years?

K-3ii switchers to K-1: worth it over time?

A relevant and timely question, @Oakland Rob.

It would be useful if respondents could also give an impression of the lenses they use(d) with the K-3/K-3 II and with the K-1. I'm a K-3 II user, and one of my main concerns is the added weight and bulk that a K-1 combo would bring. I use a DA*50-135 frequently and a DA* 300 on nature hikes. I did have an opportunity to try a K-1 + D-FA 70-200, which struck me as a bit of a beastly combination for long hikes. Using smaller lenses wouldn't be so much of a problem for me.

Pixie dust

The legend of lens 'pixie dust' is revealed only to those who use certain Pentax lenses. Through the ages, Pentax has sprinkled the magical ingredient on many of its lenses, but especially liberally on the FA Limiteds - the images taken with these lenses transcend their mere technical specifications. The legend further describes hypnotic effects that are experienced by Pentax photographers when gazing at the dusted images. :)

As @jbinpg says, "Use them and you will soon see."

Enjoy.

Pentax-F 1.7x Autofocus (AF) Adapter - Excellent Condition

Asking Price
220.00 USD

Item Description

SMC Pentax-F 1.7x AF Adapter

This is a very useful piece of kit – it provides an autofocus capability with manual focus lenses, and a 1.7x teleconverter function which gives extra reach at minimal weight penalty. It is compatible with Pentax full-frame and APS-C autofocus cameras.

Designed originally to work with Pentax A-, M-, and SMC (K)-series lenses, it also works well with many others including autofocus lenses. I have achieved excellent results with my Pentax-M 100/2.8, Pentax DA* 300/4 and DA* 50-135/2.8. There are a few lens exceptions – Pentax literature states that it is not compatible with A 15/3.5; M zoom 24-35/3.5; K 15/3.5 and K 18/3.5.

I have two of these adapters, so I’m selling one.

Buy with confidence: I have sold one item in this Marketplace, and I have a 100% positive feedback on eBay, seller Space_Canuck.

The item for sale is fully functional. This version is marked 'Japan’.

Glass: Excellent condition. Clean and clear; no scratches, haze, fungus, or other defects. Light internal dust specks, which do not affect the image quality.

Body and Mechanical: Excellent condition. Very clean; no nicks, dents, scratches, or other flaws. Minimal signs of use; nothing remarkable. The mounts are solid and the mechanism works perfectly. Minor ‘brassing’ at the end of the actuator arm.

Included: Pentax-F 1.7x AF Adapter, original front and rear caps.
