It's been a while since I posted here. I just came back from my trip to Kiev and 2-day Chernobyl private tour. I took my K-5 with me and made these shots.
The K-5 did act strange on certain parts were the radiation was kind of high, but it didn't let me down. Higher resolutions on my flickr ;) .

More here :)

Well I posted a few pictures so far: The 3rd picture in this post is my Final picture to enter the contest with.

The evolution:

1) Basic edit and idea (base) (on pg.2):

2) Base recolored and painted fire with soft and hard brushes (on pg.3):

3) Improved fire, ground light reflection, added a little more "depth" to the shadows/mid range. Sky edit, painted rays in the sky with soft brushes (Final Picture to use in the Contest):

Thank you! Indeed it really does you remind you of Ghost Rider. I found the picture a little boring so I spruced it up a bit. :D

Re-entered: With green bands, made it before the post was updated that the green band was also a part of the processing. :) (not my final entry: final entry on page 3)

Indeed there is a grand greenish looking band over the image (RAW+JPEG). It's very visible on a calibrated screen.

On the photo it looks like the best "chinese" version with 3(6) screws around the mount and has the metal pins.
So go for it :)

I really would advise to take one with 3 screws, it's much better quality and more reliable.
Maybe this one will be more to your likings (scroll down the page to view the actual pictures): eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d?r
I had the same box. (same grip as the K-7 for the K-5) :)

All those aftermarket grips come from the same Chinese factories, there are only 2 versions of the grip, one with 2 screws in the middle (has plastic perts) and one with 3 screws (has metal parts). Buy the one with 3 screws,
it's more solid, has a metal plate in it for the mounting on a tripod and is made better over the 2 screws version. I bought mine for 41 euro (incl shipping) = 54 usd = 52 AUD. Don't let yourself fooled if they have a "brand" it all comes from the same manufacturers. :) Unless you buy a genuine one.

I don't go out in the rain so I have no need for weather sealing. It does the job for me and no problems with it.

You want to buy this version: Example:

I use a Tamron 90mm f2.8 and love it so far, gives nice and crisp images. I even use it as a portrait lens at times.

I like the first one, great capture. The 2nd one is a little too over-processed for my taste :)

Ultra Quick Film to Digital Conversion (on the cheap) with the Pentax K-5

Indeed I realized it after taking the pictures, my 46 inch LED Screen is from Sharp and has that extra yellow in the pixel: RGBY, which makes the pixels slightly larger. So yes, increasing the distances would give you better results, but it gives the people a view of what is achievable with old film and a DSLR.
Or you could use a normal PC screen which will give better results. Indeed a second hand light panel should do the job too. :)

Keep the tips coming for those who don't want to spend money (or very very little).

Holy .. some nice pictures on this page!
Well here are another few mediocre shots I took today: I call it Radiation Light Cocktail and for the B&W: An Idea can develop while sitting down with a drink.

All freehand, the first one is taken with a Tamron 90mm at f2.8 and isn't processed except for the watermark. The B&W is taken with a Sigma 50mm EX at f1.4.

I totally agree with you. The film I used as an example in the thread were pretty much faded, it took quite a bit of processing to get the details and color back.
Indeed if you have a scanner, use that, if you don't and want to develop a shot on the fly without spending money, then this will do. :)
