Need prime lens suggestion for K1

I think you should make a choice between landscapes and portraits. You have the 24mm-70mm and all the lenses you've listed save the 77mm are in the range of the 24mm-70mm. What exactly are you hoping to get out of this prime that the 24mm-70mm isn't giving you?

That being said if I could only choose one lens off your list it would be the 31mm or the 43mm.

Cracked housing on K1 at the top of Pentaprism?

That's the plan. Our studio is very dusty due to the work we do. Hopefully tape will keep out the dust till we have a lull and I can get this repaired.

Thanks. It's annoying but also just part of doing work. It could have been worse.

Yeah. I just talked to my main photographer in the studio and we decided to wait until Dec. that way we can shoot product for the holiday season, by December we aren't doing any marketing material so we're taking way less photos. I have a peice of electrical tape over the crack to keep out dust for now, and it almost never leaves the studio so water is not a concern.

My back up is a dust filled KX with a shutter count over 300 000 so basically no back up at all.

Do you happen to know the part number for that top housing shell?

So..... My name is Matt and I broke the top housing for my K1 in the exact same spot doing the exact same thing shooting macros in the studio.

Tripod tipped over (I didn't have the weight attached on the bottom) and it landed right on the point of the pentaprism and cracked it exactly the same as your crack.
Still functions but I need to get it fixed. I'm in Canada so I guess I'll talk with Ricoh.

Let me know when you get it back

Tripod tipped over and camera landed right on the point of the pentaprism. Top of housing has a small crack running near the top of that pyramid shape.

Does this go back to Pentax to be fixed?

I did a number of shots to see if there are any issues. Seams fine, is there anything I should be worried about. I'm assuming dust and water are now a big issue, I mainly shoot in the studio. I put a small piece of table over the crack to keep dust out for now.

What's the first lens you would mount on your new FF Pentax DSLR?

Why is Ricoh even bothering with a FF?

Sony doing ok with sensors and the PS4 though. I have a couple family members with sony phones, they are really nice!

And I guess I should contribute to the thread. I want a pentax FF because I have a lot of lenses that would fit it, a digital FF would breath new life into my lense collection and I've come to a place where I've hit a wall with my current camera and need to upgrade due to work reasons. A FF is a good fit for my needs but I don't like the prospect of switching to Canon or Nikon because I'd be starting at zero on my lenses and I'd never get the money out of my old pentax lenses that I sunk into them.

So.... I'm getting the feeling people really like the fa*24?

For me it's a perfect fit with the fa 43 ltd. They take different photos but share a similar "feel" in the images. It's a nice combo.

I bought the FA 100mm 2.8 macro. Lens is in great condition, exactly as described. Works great, lens was shipped out the day I paid for it, thanks so much for the good experience, good luck selling the rest.

As a side note to anyone reading this, I also own the FA 43mm, it's a great lense if you haven't used one before and you don't have something in the range of the 43mm this would be a great buying to pick one up from.

Which fast 50 for Astrophotography (1.2, 1.4, 1.7) ?

forgive my ignorance as I do not know all the ins/outs of astrophotography but my understanding is that you are shooting from a tripod with long exposure times. If you're already shooting from a tripod with a long exposure (from research this can be a few minutes or even into +1hr) isn't the speed of lenses you're comparing somewhat irrelevant? If you need more light, extend your shutter time.

Am I missing something crucial about astrophotography?

I have the 43mm and a 50mm A 1.7. I find the pictures I take with both of these lenses to be very similar. I think the 43mm is a better field of view and I like the autofocus but I find the rendering of the image to be comparable.

1st universal prime lens for a little of city photography

It depends on what you're planning to shoot and in what kind of conditions.

If you're planning on people and street fashion I might go a bit longer so you don't need to get up in peoples grill. 55-100mm (approximately)

If you're planning cityscape and street scenes I would go as wide as you can. 15mm

I use both my 43mm and 15mm for shooting in the city but the 15mm is way more useful if the light conditions are good (basically good until sundown).

This may or may not be relevant for you but my own rule for photo taking is that any shutter speed lower than 1/125 I use a tripod. Sometimes between 1/50 - 1/80 I can get away with hand held shots if I make a tripod with my elbows on something but even then you still risk shaking when you put pressure on your shutter button.

I think your blurry photos are from shake.

DA 15LTD
FA 43LTD
FA 77LTD or maybe 100mm Macro? I am not sure what this lense will be yet.

My current walk around kit is the 15 and the 43. I think my next lense will probably be the 77 but it might also be the 31.... Inevitably, I am sure I will ended buying both these lenses at some point.

How to decide UWA lens for astrophotography, landscape, architecture, indoor?

Maybe someone with more experience than me can answer this but from my limited knowledge of astrophotography it seems like you usually use a long exposure time (a bare minimum of 60 seconds but usually 200+) at this long of exposure time I don't think the difference between f2.8 and f4.0 is relevant.

Thats a nice spread. I usually carry the 15mm and 43mm at all times as a two lens walk around kit. It is the perfect combo.

Fewer Sigma Lenses for Pentax an explanation

This interview is a bit more verbose than it needs to be.

Q: Why don't you make more lenses for Pentax?
A: We make more money when we make lenses for Nikon and Canon.

If Pentax changes their lense mount it would be the last straw to push me to Canon.

Voigtlander color ultron 50/1.8 vs Pentax 50/1.7

I have the pentax A 50mm 1.7 and have shot with a friends 40mm voightlander but not the 50mm. I would be surprised if the voightlander outperforms the pentax as their 40mm does not outperform the pentax 40mm and on top of that is manual focus.

My advice on lenses is to not buy focal lengths that you already own. That being said I am poor so I am pretty picky on which lenses I pull the trigger on.

I have a 43mm and the A50/1.7 and I can't tell a difference in the quality of pictures between the two. But I like that the 43mm is wider and it has autofocus si I hit focus on more shots.

These two lenses make up my kit. Still getting the hang of the 15mm but I have seen glimpses of what is possible with it. The 43 is just a crusher all round, it spends a lot of time on my camera.

If I could only use one lens it would be the 43mm

I must be the only person who likes to take photos at night.
I was out with a friend taking pics, we both had 50mm 1.4 but I have a pentax kr and he has a 5d mark ii. I was amazed at how much more light his camera was taking in. That was the point where I started to ask questions about what I could do differently if I could put my pentax lense on a full frame camera.

Canon gets it's market share by catering to pro photographers, they have full frame cameras and great lenses to put on them. The first thing I did when I decided to upgrade to DSLR was to ask a pro that I knew which camera to buy. Without a second though he said Canon. Pros use Nikon as well but the bulk I know all shoot with Canon. I looked into Canon but a Pentax with some vintage lenses was the more cost effective route to get the kind of results I wanted. An endorsement from a professional is a huge boost to sales.
