Win 7 update icon has disappeared from the notification area. ...

A little troubleshooting required here:

A little icon usually appears in the notification area (bottom of screen on the right) when Windows 7 has updates ready to install.
It is now NOT showing for the past two days (see picture 1)
It also shows in the Start "area" (bottom left after clicking on the "globe") (see picture 2)
I have tried changing the behavior of where and how the notifications appear in the notification area (see picture 3), to no avail.

This is awkward because I usually see the little update icon and then by clicking on it, I decide what to do: install all updates, certain ones, ... whatever.
I placed a shortcut on the desktop for the updates (via the Control panel) for the time being but it would be nice to recover the formerly useful small icon that shows that updates are available.

Of course, I can always just click on "Shut Down" and let the update proceed automatically but I like to be able to decide what updates will be done.

Anyone knows of a trick to recover the small update notification icon that SHOULD be there?

Thanks!! :)

Don't forget to adjust AF calibration for your lenses when using the DA 1.4x tc

Thanks Stavri.
Seems confusing but I will give it a go and see what happens.
I'll have to find a proper set up and "target" for this.

Don't forget to adjust AF calibration for your lenses when using the DA 1.4x tc

That could be why I have been having "problems" with this specific TC attached to my DA*300/4 ...
Thanks for the hint.
Something to try and see if it will solve the said-problem.

---------- Post added 11-19-17 at 08:15 PM ----------

So, let's say (presumption only) I had the DA*300/4 on its own and needed a +1 fine adjustment ... and I saved that "correction".
Then, I attach the HD 1.4X TC to that same lens ... so according to your findings, the required AF adjustment (if any) would be reset to zero, right?
Once I calibrate this combo and save it, would the camera save it as a lens on its own (i.e.: the lens plus TC = "a lens" ) ?

What would YOU consider a "clinical" image?

In my line of work, a clinical image infers a detailed study of the "specimen", whether it be a plain radiograph, a CTscan image or a MRI study.
So I was a bit surprised to see, here, that "clinical" means quite the opposite.

The DA*300/4 is the best lens I have ever owned for birding.
Granted, it does not have the reach of a 150-450 nor 500mm but, the IQ is just great.
Some claim that with the 1.4X TC you can have the same IQ but I have reserves on that. The only way to find out is to try it yourself.
Now, if you need to go beyond 300mm (420mm with the TC), then the D FA 150-450 would be a good choice too. Seems like the IQ is close to that of the DA*300/4 on its own.
I have thousands of pictures taken with the DA*300 ... just have a peek at my Flickr account .. link in my signature: it has been used with several cameras: K20D, K7, K5 and K3.

Question: is the KP AF in s-af mode better than the K3"s?

Impressive difference ... in one "dimension" only.

However, this test ("AF Tracking Test") was done whith the subject moving perpendicular to the camera, so the tester did "panning".
It doesn't show much in terms of tracking other than in that dimension.
Granted, the KP might show better performance that way, but does it "track" any better than the K3/k3II when the subject is moving toward/away from the camera?

You've beaten me in terms of the number of shots taken over the past 2 weeks. :( ... that should tell you the sort of weather we've been having here.
One shot of a Hairy Woodpecker at the feeder at ISO 6400 and slow shutter speed ... disaster!
I quit !

As usual, your work is always professional quality.
Of course, the models also contribute a lot to the images ! ;)

Works for me: portraiture done in this way (horizontally) shows more than the actual subject with a touch of nicely rendered background.

I already have the Nik collection installed as a plug-in in CS5 ... if DxO makes changes to it, will I be able to update those changes?

I'm already old, so that takes care of at least part of the question ! :asleep:
As for keeping the K3 "for a long time" ... probably, as I keep all my cameras forever. So the K3 will likely be with me for quite a few years yet.
Comes along a K3 "replacement" and I will certainly upgrade while keeping the K3.

Seems like you have a "problem" which is pretty much the same as my current Pentax cameras: K5 and K3.
I don't own a K-1 but I suppose Pentax (Ricoh) hasn't yet improved that much in the AF department, even with the K-1.
My thoughts ... and I also have the same wishes as yours for recent Pentax cameras.
Hopefully, this will get better with the release of future models. In the meantime ... we have to live with it (AF).

I am in no rush, really so this can wait and, of course, allowing me to get some funds as well.
Weather sealing is important because of the region where I live: wet, humid in the summer and windy pretty much year round. I also do quite a bit of winter photography, so again weather sealing would be a "must".
I tend to take the 15mm Ltd only when I am sure weather permits.
One of my daughters owns a Sigma 10-20, great images taken with that and her K3, but she doesn't use it when it's raining, too windy (dust), etc ... so I take the advice from her as well.

Thanks for the replies, folks! Appreciated ! :)
