Yes, she'd jokingly told me she'd always wanted to be a model for car ads. Her 15 seconds of fame right here.

Pentax is the OK brand nobody wants to buy.

It's like cars. If you have lots of money you go for a Merc or a BMW; almost never for a Jaguar.

I like my Jag.

Slow Shutter question

You were using TV, which means the shutter speed is the selected value at all times.
The aperture was already at its lowest value (smallest opening).

How do you reckon the camera can darken the image when it can't close the aperture further and it can't change the shutter speed?

What ISO value did you use?

If you need a few extra stops of light suppression, pop a neutral density or a polarizing filter.
If you don't own any of those, just use a faster shutter speed.

It's only a stop slower than an f/1.4. That's still pretty fast.

I remember reading about something like this a few years back; when a memory manufacturer shipped infected SD cards to consumer. One PC manufacturer did the same thing.

Caveat emptor?

Do the pictures appear on the card regardless? If not, try using another memory card, as the camera might have trouble writing to the one you currently use.

I think you're being too picky. I use Lightroom for most of my edits and I organize my own pictures. Then I just tell it to add my pictures without moving, copying or modifying them in any way; work on them to my heart's content; then remove them from the catalogue after exporting everything.

Stitching.. if you mean for panoramas and such, hugin does the best job I've ever seen.

I'm guessing OP bought a double-lens kit consisting of K-x body + 18-55 + 55-200, both in DA L flavour.

Ah! You might be onto something there. I had heard the K-x was hugely popular but imagined most of these newcomers would just stick with the kit lenses or upgrade after a while. I'm thinking the type of person who buys a K-x due to colour customization options shudders at the thought of having to control aperture via a ring on the lens.

Don't be such a fanboy. I've played with many many many Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Minolta cameras from the 80s and early 90s. All very respectable performers. Some are even better built than Pentax equivalents. I found Minoltas particularly quirky and enjoyable.

Back in 2008 I bought an excellent MZ(ZX)-30 for $25 + shipping. There's an MZ-M on sale in the marketplace for twice that much.
A crummy DA L 18-55 is $65. What?

The thing that sold me with Pentax could be summed up in four words: cheap glass; backwards compatibility. As a student in a poor country, this seemed like a great selling point. I could get all the lenses I needed (granted, without all the bells and whistles like AF) for little money, save for a cheap digital body and live happily ever after.

Look at the second-hand market now. Why is there suddenly such a huge demand for average (face it!) photo equipment with a PENTAX logo stamped on it? It's not better than most competing products being made at the time.

Pentax community, what the fudge happened?

tl;dr I want a K-5, a 16-50, 50-135, Sigma 70-200, 100mm Macro WR and a 2" Meade f/3.3 focal reducer. This has nothing to do with what I said earlier.
