Relatively new to the Pentax scene, and this was my first time taking her out for a "real" shoot. The sky was rather boring so I was trying out some long exposure techniques to maximize the reflections and smooth the waves. Here are three of my favorites, and a link to the full album if you are interested. All shot with K-5iis and DA 16-45mm

I'd love some critiques on my technique, editing, composition, etc. Thanks for looking!

Dad, I have two Pentax-M 50 f1.7 primes ;) I could probably be convinced to send one your way.

Thanks! I guess I'm wondering how the pieces are missing even if it came loose. Not sure where they would go as the lens elements should have kept the pieces contained.

I wasn't worried about getting a refund, I bought it about a month ago in a bundle of lenses on Craigslist. I got the bundle for well under market value so I'm not concerned at all. Thought it would be a good experience to open a lens and see how all the pieces went together.

I have a question I am hoping you guys can help me out with. While inspecting this lens I got recently, I noticed the aperture "blade" (not sure what to call it) sticking out on the mount side of the lens was loose. After further inspection, I noticed that the aperture adjustment was sloppy, and that it wouldn't always react to the manual changes I was making. I did some searching and thought that maybe the spring had popped loose so I decided I would open it up and take a look. I was surprised to find that not only was the spring missing, but the rod that attaches to the aperture blades as well. I am nearly positive that it didn't fall out at any point during the disassembly. I have attached some pics as well. Any idea if this was done purposefully, and if so, for what reason? I'm trying hard to figure out how internal components could be missing without someone opening the lens and removing them.

Also, is this lens worth fixing, or should I sell it for parts or use it as is? I have the original leather case, although it isn't in the greatest condition, if that matters.

Awesome, I was in the same boat as you, deciding between the K5iis, K3, and K3ii. I just couldn't pass up an amazing deal on a K5iis. Its hard to justify the difference when it means a few hundred dollars!

Just picked up a copy off of eBay for cheap, will have to test it out. Figure for the price I paid it would be worth it!

I'll be keeping the 50/1.4 and 28/2.8 for sure, and probably one of the 50/1.7s. I will consider keeping some of the others depending on how I like them.

I tend to agree with this statement. As a beginner, the limiting factor is going to be your skill as a photographer. You can always upgrade your camera body once you surpass its abilities, meanwhile you have been building a nice collection of lenses.

Tried this and it doesn't sound like the shutter changes speeds one way or another. Doesn't hang or anything, but it is all the same speed regardless of the setting I have it on.

Well, maybe I will have to keep both! What does the 1.7 do better than the 1.4?

Yep, that was the lens I was originally interested in and why I jumped on the deal!

Wow, didn't realize it was that much. Sounds like I need to find some boxes and bubble wrap.

Yeah, I love how it looks, and it seems to be in great shape. Not sure how to check its function, I haven't been around a film camera in at least 15 years. My only reservation for keeping that one was that it wouldn't be compatible with my growing Pentax lens collection.

Hey all, relatively new to the Pentax scene, hopefully the right place for this, but I just wanted some feedback on a recent craigslist find. Guy was selling some old Pentax gear and I was interested in a few lenses, but he told me $100 for the whole box, so I went ahead and took his offer.

Lenses:
SMC A50/1.4
SMC M50/1.7 (x2)
SMC M28/2.8 with leather case
CPC Phase 2 CCT 28-80mm Macro 3.5-4.5
Cosina MC Cosinon-T 200mm F4
Sears Auto 28-85mm 3.5-4.5

Bodies (All with original owner's manuals):
Pentax Super Program
Pentax ME
Nikkormat EL w/ Nikkor 50/1.4

Extras:
A pile of Hoya UV filters (49 and 52mm),
Hoya +1 and +3 "closeup lens" filters
A few old leather lens and camera cases
Sunpak auto 122 flash
two P&S cameras that will be donated.

I think I got a pretty good deal and am excited to try out some of these old MF lenses.

Any comments on the lenses I got (quality, value, strengths, weaknesses, etc)? I know about the 50/1.4 but don't know much about the others.

Also, I'm thinking of keeping one of the old film cameras for kicks. How do these three camera compare? And what to do with the two I decide not to keep.

I've been looking at it, the price is so tempting and I've heard great things about the IQ.

Also, I just picked up a Tamron 70-300 for CHEAP and I'm having fun with it.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and suggestions. I've heard great things about the 16-85 and 18-135 as well. Will definitely consider both

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself. Just purchased a K-5iis with 18-55 WR. I'm coming to Pentax from Canon and haven't owned a different
system before so it will be interesting to see how I enjoy it. I've been lurking here and used a lot of info in guiding my purchase and am
looking forward to getting some new glass (Wide angle, telephoto or macro, and possibly a new "walk around").

Thanks!

Duke
