Why the Avalanche decided that they had seen enough of Mr O'Reilly after 6 years, is a question most in Denver still ponder.

Congrats to your Blues. They had a hell of a run in 2019!

And special congrats to Ryan O'Reilly! I knew he was special after seeing his rookie year!

I second the idea of getting the D FA 28-105 for use on the K-1. You may not even need a flash much with the amazing higher ISO performance.

Lens calibration

Get out and enjoy your new gear! Take lots of photos in order to familiarize yourself with the camera. Make sure that your technique is solid. Ask lots of questions here on the forum. And don't worry about lens calibration right away. If, after taking lots of photos and finding a consistent problem with getting in-focus results, then consider calibration. Inquire here about proper testing methods. But beware. Make absolutely sure that you understand how Pentax AF is supposed to work. Be confident in your shooting technique.
In 10 years of shooting with 5 different models of Pentax DSLR, and too many lenses to count, I have yet to calibrate a single lens. Maybe I've just been lucky. I don't know. Just try to be sure that you have eliminated any other possible cause.

The east entrance of RMNP is right outside of Estes Park, a 35-40 mile drive slightly NW of Denver. Black Canyon NP is a 4-5 hour drive SW of Denver. Frisco is a straight shot on I-70 W of Denver. Adds up to a sizeable "loop" with just those three.
Breckenridge is about 9 miles west of Frisco. If it's open, you can catch Boreas Pass (dirt road which may be open, depending on how quickly the snow melts) outside of Breckenridge and connect with Highway 285 south and then take that to Highway 50 west, which will take you to Black Canyon, after another 2-3 hours of travel.
Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

Amazon suck.

"I do believe it's human error, it just sucks when you actually have the foresight to check before hand, get it in writing and they still won't come through properly on the deal... for what... $50? This really is $50 vs customer satisfaction from a billion dollar company, let's not forget that fact. Pretty sure they can handle this loss from a mistake they made..."

"I just paid $40AUD (including shipping) for a $58USD item (including shipping), heck... I should order one again and do the same complaint strategy!"

These two statements by the OP kind of give off the stench of, let's say, 'greedy opportunist'. Just because the company you ordered from has transformed itself into an incredibly successful online marketplace, doesn't mean that they owe you something when a mistake is made. You knew that it looked like a ridiculously good offer when you first saw it. And kudos for double checking it before you ordered. But by continuing to 'escalate', despite their apologizing and offering a perfectly acceptable remedy, you are the one that comes out looking a bit foolish. Yup, you finally got what you wanted, yet you still felt compelled to post this to PF for some reason.
Maybe if you were harmed in a way that was extremely detrimental to your photography business, causing you to lose clients or future opportunities. Then I would expect an angry CS encounter. But it doesn't sound like that was the case.

I am disabled, and have come to use Amazon and other online businesses, simply because it makes my life a little easier. And I've got to say, despite how humongous Amazon has gotten, I am constantly amazed at how efficiently they get the job done right. When something has gone wrong with an order, they have yet to fail at getting it fixed.

Crop to split panorama into 3

When I have ordered triptych's in the past, I have submitted the photo in its original edited form. Since all 3 pieces are going to be printed to the same exact size, the printing service should do the splitting for you. I've only had them done on canvas, but I would imagine that it would work the same, regardless of surface.

Can't beat a good ol' Leatherman (or a new one!). I'm still carrying one that I received as a graduation present over 25 years ago. Other than a couple of photography-specific tools, it has been all I've really needed.

Recommendations for landscape photography locations West Denver area

Unfortunately, you're going to have to forget about going to Mt. Evans this time. The highway which goes to the top is closed for the season right after Labor Day.

I would definitely go to Garden of the Gods though. Can be absolutely amazing with the right light. And it sits at the foot of Pikes Peak, a 14,000 ft. mountain that is very impressive. You can use the huge red rocks of Garden of the Gods to frame Pikes Peak.

Another suggestion is Red Rocks Amphitheater. It sits on the other side of a hill from Denver, very close to I-70. It's open to the public almost all of the time. The exception being that they will kick you out early afternoon if there is an event that evening. Also, trails all around it provide plenty of photo ops.

Why do TV news articles show views of the photographers taking pictures?

This is right on. As a TV news photojournalist, which I did for years, you walk into a non-descript room with a table of talking heads on one side, and a line-up of media photogs on the other. If it is about something that can be shown, say a water treatment plant, then if you have time, you go get video of that plant to cover most of it. But if it is about a more amorphous subject, like zoning or taxes, you need cutaway in order to prevent jump cuts.

APS-C crop

So, if a digital full frame sensor is 36mm x 24mm, an APS-C crop is 2/3 of that, or 24mm x 16mm. Then how come on the K-1 36mp sensor when you use the crop setting you only get ~15mp, instead of 24mp?

Pentax 24-70 vs 28-105

I had the K-1 with the 24-70 together for a few months exclusively. Great lens, still own it. It just got to be heavy. I had read several glowing reviews and references here on the forum about the 28-105. Picked one up second hand in the marketplace. It is much smaller (size and weight) than the 24-70. Makes hauling the K-1 much more enjoyable. Plus, the images with the 28-105 have been great! The K-1 is a remarkable camera and delivers great images, independent of almost any lens you attach to it.

I'm guessing that the bus window was also polarized. I've seen a similar effect while wearing polarized sunglasses and seeing certain car windows which have been polarized (and also often tinted). Don't have a solution for your problem though.

As you can see, the fine forum members here will quickly help you buy your way into the poorhouse! Definitely easy to spend someone else's money. But it is also good to see Pentaxians' enthusiasm regarding the unique lenses available for Pentax APS-C cameras. I hope that you are able to figure out a good lens line-up to start out with, because sure enough, there will be more "must have" lenses coming around the bend!!

What Do Fellow Pentaxians Do For A Living?

I am an involuntarily grounded former TV news photojournalist. Wonderful, rewarding career in which I was just hitting my stride. An apparently genetic "tic" caused my lumbar spinal discs to deteriorate beginning at age 34. Genetic because it was the exact same problem that caused my dad to have to give up his beloved police work at the age of 40.

So here I am, coming up on my 15th year of disability, dependent on various pharmaceuticals, including the "evil" opioid molecule. Opiates provide the only means I have of being a participant in my own life, as a husband, father, son and homeowner, etc. Unfortunately, I have had to withdraw more and more from participating in that life, because of the epidemic of folks killing themselves, attempting to get "high" on those same opiates, the ones which allow me to have a life.

***END RANT***

So, reenter still photography. That was my original focus when entering college, but was soon derailed after discovering the university TV station. Stumbled into an internship with the NBC affiliate in Denver. Found I had a real knack for it, and had actual job offers prior to graduation.
After having to quit after only 10 years in TV, digital photography had come on the scene. I'd learned on a K1000 in high school, so naturally I checked to see if Pentax was still around. Lo and behold, they had just released the K-7! Didn't even consider the more "popular" brands. Stumbled upon this wonderful site, with it's equally wonderful members, and never looked back!

Probably a LOT more than you wanted to know. But thanks for listening.
