Replacement Leatherette pictures

The Black(boring) Leatherette on my Spotmatic is in flawless condition, so I don't see myself making changes anytime soon. I even purchased a film identifier holder from London(still in the mail) for it since the Spotmatic doesn't come with one. I kind of like the Green leatherette though, not sure if the video mentions where it was purchased ?

What is the purpose of the 15mm limited?

It's not really a 15mm. On a cropped camera the focal length equivalent is about 22.5mm. the great thing about this lens is that distortions are kept to a minimal.

I have a whole bunch of lenses that are collecting dust for lack of use. Why did I buy them, probably because I read some review, or because some "expert" claimed: "This is the greatest thing since Swiss-cheese !" This activated my LBA and I knew I just had to have this lens. Am I remorseful ? HECK NO ! despite the lack of use, if I were to lose the lens, or it got stolen, I would probably purchase it all over again. Unlike others that sell or trade their equipment at the drop of a dime, I usually purchase For-Keeps. Honestly though, you only need about 3-4 lenses (a wide angle, a normal lens, a small telephoto and maybe a telephoto lens). There is no lens on the market right now that that is going to instantly improve your photography...

It's in my hands ! the Takumar 85mm f1.8 in *Mint* condition. A couple of weeks ago I was going to spring for the Takumar 100mm f2.8, because I figured I could not afford the 85mm, but lady-luck smiled upon me and I was able to purchase it. So glad I waited...

First impressions: the the lens is almost useless a f1.8(at least this one is). At f2.8 it's about as sharp as my 50mm f1.7 at f1.7 ! From then on, the lens really shines all the way up to f16. I would say f5.6 or f8 are the sweet spots. This lens has a really LOOOOOng focusing throw.

I almost had a heart-attack, because I had the lens set to Auto on my K-5 II and all my pictures were coming out blurred. I even sent the seller (in Japan) a message that I would be returning it. Then I realized that the lens had to be set to Manual on a DSLR and on Auto on an SLR with SMC. Can't wait to get it on my Spotmatic. :)

This will probably be my last Vintage lens, except for maybe the Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon f/4 20mm. After that I'm done !! ,

Here are a couple of photos that I would have missed, or spent a gazillion hours in PP trying to fix if it wasn't for the pop-up flash on my K-5 II. I have hundreds of others...
Keep in mind that you can turn down the pop-up flash to -2 so that it is almost undetectable.

There are more amateurs and wannabes that there are pros and semi- pros and yes they purchase semi-pro and pro cameras . Sometimes these amateurs just want to walk around the neighborhood with their cameras. Should they have to remember to put batteries in a flash and carry some flacky transmitter and receiver or worry about charging their flash batteries or carry a huge obtrusive flash in top of their cameras ??

"It's also pointless for pro work. Pro camera, pro work = no pop up flash"

The K3 is NOT a "PRO" camera, it's semi-pro. This is another one of these Dated fallacies like the one that states that 'Natural Light is the "only" way to go'. I spoke to many so-called Pro's and they love the Pop-up Flash. Why ? Because it works for fill-flash on the fly. Also, it can sometimes help balance scenes with high contrast, such as very bright backgrounds. Another is they can set off strobes, or off-camera flash without any extra gear. They don't have to carry another item in their camera bag. You got a point there though with this new Pentaprism there might not be enough room...

Suggestions for good manual battery powered strobes?

Buying strobes is not an easy decision. Unless you got deep pockets, strobes are things you buy that will last you for years, not upgrade every few years like you do with cameras. Godox is the thing these days, but from the look of things, you might get stuck purchasing Godox accessories only. Keep that in mind before deciding to pluck down your hard earned dollars.

Paul C Buff Alien Bees and especially their "Einsteins" are very good time-tested strobes. They can be powered by regular AC and can also be powered by relatively cheap Vagabond Power packs, so you can take them anywhere. They have tons of accessories and can be even outfitted with third-party accessories, so you are not only stuck with just one manufacturer. If you want tough and I mean tough every day strobes, you can't go wrong with Norman strobes, or Broncolor. These strobes are made to get beat-up on a daily basis and keep on ticking, although Norman is mostly known for their power-pack units. The important thing when looking for strobes is color-balance, light modifiers, ruggedness, recycling speed and flash duration.

Some strobes like my Photogenic AKG 320's can only muster about 1/250 flash duration at 1/2 power, which means they are better for portraits. The good thing about them is that they output beautiful color balanced light, perfect for portraits. The shorter the flash duration, the better you are able to stop action, (like models jumping up and down) without causing a blur. Color balance means that whenever you decide to change the power level on a unit, the the color temperature of that unit does not change. This can save you huge headaches in Post Processing. If you are just shooting home portraits then a 320-400 Watt strobe will do. However, if you want to add a bunch of modifiers, or you want to shoot large groups on location, you might need something a little more powerful. To me an 800 Watt strobe is overkill for home portraits, your neighbors might think a flying-saucer landed in your living room.

So you mean a pop-up flash would raise the price to 2.5K- 3k ? it didn't on the K3 vs 1 or the K5 series ???

Third party lenses, am I missing out

Other than Tamron and Sigma it is really hard trying to find exotic third-party lenses for Pentax cameras these days. Back in the day(15-20 years ago ), you could purchase lenses such as Zeiss, Voigtländer etc. with K-mounts, but not anymore. These manufacturers cater only to Nikon, Canon and maybe Sony these days. You might be able to find these lenses on the used market, but it will probably be difficult, or very expensive. The good thing is that Pentax has some gems of their own, for example the Limited lenses are hard to beat, also the Takumar line has some exceptional lenses, but you have to do your research on which ones are truly exceptional. Tamron and Sigma usually try to fill holes in the Pentax lens line-up, but their lenses except for the recent 'Art lenses', usually don't match up with Pentax build quality, or optics.

I'm afraid of heights so I don't think something like that would ever happen to me ? This happens more often than you think. When I was living in the Washington DC area, there was a park called Great Falls. Why was it called that ? because there was a huge water falls there right in the middle of the park. I decided to visit that park one day and the Guide told us that on average, 10 people die there every year despite all the signs that say "Stay at least 15-20 feet from the water !".
