Do try this lens for portraits I think you will be surprised at how good they are. I love mine. The bokeh is beautiful and soft at 4.5. Of course you need a tripod with these to get sharp images but sure every one on this forum is aware of that.

Hi Cupic,
that looks a lot like windang island which is in nsw south coast near warilla. I lived there in my school years and a bit beyond. I've never seen a seal there, too far north probably but sharks for sure. Place gets great surf, fantastic lefthander off the side of the island especially when the remains of a cyclone go past. I've spent the best days of my life out there surfing those huge swells. memories....
cheers
Pete

By the way, my apologies for not replying sooner. My computer was having trouble connecting to the net, needed a new card.
That's not a one bit file Arpe, one bit files only have pure black and pure white to work with and as mentioned need to be reconverted to jpeg's of 8 bits or more to be saved, at least on my system. The shot gives me a feeling of loneliness and a harsh enviroment for a young lady to be in. Isn't that the idea of photography, to impart feelings :). That I believe, is art.
I'm trying to get enough good shots together to cover one wall in my kitchen. I have a printer, epson stylus r 200 which allows me to print with black ink only. Using special carbon inks the prints are very durable and have a special character. Here's a link for interest....Black And White Digital Printing

This is a colour file converted to one bit and then back to 8 bit so that the file can be saved. I'm into black only printing and these type of files are ideal. It's a rare photo that suites this method but i think they are great when they are suited. I am curious as to whether anyone shares my interest.

I've been using Picture Window Pro, which is great as it handles Raw and JPEG's in the same setup. I think the secret is to use RAW files because of the greater bit depth, which gives better tonal range. I know I'm probably the last person on Earth to realise that but hey, it did get there! PWP let's one put a colour filter over the image and I simply try them all till I like the result. Then a little unsharp mask.

I,m a Danish born Australian living in Gisborne ,New Zealand. I earn my crumbs Cabinetmaking from a small workshop at home. 2 grown up kids, Wife and a dog. I enjoy Surfing, sailing and renovating our old home as well as riding our mo bike with the boss keeping an eye on me from behind. I got into photography with my need to take photos of my furniture. Mainly use the older Pentax lenses which I've collected for years. I enjoy the folks on this forum very much and thanks kindly for all the sharing of technique and software, etc.
Peace Pete.

You might like to try this link....Pentax *ist-D
I have the D , used it for a couple of years mainly with manual focus lenses with satisfying results. Of course, all these need more dynamic range!! The main problem with RAW in my experience, is that it takes forever to download to the computer. This is easily overcome by using a card reader and having a couple of cards. Good luck.

If you are into it, try it, you will get a much better result than is possible with jpeg's. I think its the only way to get a good black and white result from digital.
