Thanks for the reply Adam. I think I need to squeeze out a faster shutter speed, since at that magnification, even 1/60th sec is going to show some movement from the Earth's rotation. I'm going to try going to ISO 400, maybe higher and see what happens.

Been a long time since I've posted here. Had an injury and just now able to get back with the show.
I took this yesterday morning with the Sigma 50-500mm "Bigma" @500mm and my K20D. Think I oversharpened just a little, but I still like the effect and ruggedness of the moonscape... 1/60th @ f/11, ISO 100.

Very nice capture. Since you shot this at f/1.2, I'm just curious where you decided to focus, infinity, or something in the foreground? I just got a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and think I'd like to try something like this.

Whew... that looks cold! Wind blowing like that and all. You might think I'm crazy, but send some of that down here. We haven't had a good snow in a few years. No ice or sleet though, don't need that at all.

It really is ironic that the 3rd one is caused by deterioration of the emulsion, as it actually has a great effect to me. Glad you scanned it in its current state, as I'm sure it will continue to get worse. How old is this slide JMR? I've got Kodak Carousels stacked 7 feet high full of slides, some going all the way back to the late 1950's and early 60's. Most of them are on Ektachrome and Kodachrome though, and most are still in pretty good shape.

These are all very interesting JMR. I need to play with the Orton a little more myself. It's not for everything, but scenes like this, it really has a neat effect.

Yep, #2 for me. Maybe a little less cool tone, but it certainly gives a cold feeling as is! That is a neat looking cemetery. Could spend hours there with the camera...

Guess that's the first time I saw a pair of moths do the ..., well you know.

Love that lens too. I've only had a chance to get a small handful of macro shots with mine.

Good sharp image Ivan.

Bigma Birds once more...

I'll try to resist posting any more birds after this for a while ;) One reason is that it seems the only guys and gals that come around right now are Titmouse's (or is it Titmice) and Junkos! I think these are a little better than the one's I posted yesterday, so I wanted to share them. I did capture one Carolina Chickadee!

All taken with the Bigma and K20D

Carolina Chickadee. A little soft, but he/she was a fast mover for this old man...

Peter, I'm sorry I overlooked your question when I replied last time. Yes, the exif is correct. I have tried using about 420mm instead of 500 as you suggested, but have not looked at the images yet.

Thanks for your comments! I've actually obtained some that are better since these, but I hate to fill the forum with bird shots so fast ;) I might post a small set this evening. Seems like the only visitors I've had today is more Junkos and Tufted Titmice!

Regards,
Morgan

I agree about the one with the Junkos... Just don't look right...

Thanks for the comments JMR!

Thanks Peter! I will try that. I see a a whole slew of birds out today, including different woodpeckers, so maybe I can do some more practicing!

Ha Ha!! Having fun with that new K20 huh?

You will continue to be amazed with it. I got myself a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for Christmas and started shooting indoors, even at night with it, no flash, and using TAV mode, just so I could point and shoot. The ones that it adjusted to 1600 were absolutely amazing for that ISO.

Have fun!!

Yep, the B&W for me too. I am sort of biased though, as I love B&W landscapes since that's about all I did for the past 25 years. I noticed you've realized the horizon is unlevel aleady, so I won't say anything...:)

I like it Jim. Fix it and repost!

BTW, use the trees as a gauge for leveling.

Yeah, I like #2 best. Looks like you caught a couple of airplanes in #1. One is for sure, the other might be a satellite. Was #2 looking north or south? I think I see the milky way in that one.

Neat idea!!

I like both the dark ones where the background is nearly black, and the one's where the ghostly images of the kids can be seen.
