LX or MX more reliably mechanically ?
Posted By mickey

I have wanted an LX for a good few years.
Over that time I have collected Two KX's and three K2's. One each in both silver and black and an extra K2 in black.
The first K2 I bought had a sightly seperated prism which hasn't hampered picture taking. It was also peanuts.

The LX really does appeal to me, but am concerned about any possible repairs that may/will need doing.
I have found two places in Japan that will look at them, then decide if they could repair.

I think from reading through the comments here that it is unlikely I am willing to take the risk, steering on the side of caution.

The KX looks a much easier repair, and even the K2. Cheaper as well.

I'm also thinking of getting a 645, but they're also tough to find a repairman even in Japan.

When I opened up my KX, after the advanced lever became jammed, I cleaned all cogs and moving parts with a cotton bud/qtip dipped in strong alcohol.
Gently wiped all the dust and grime away and began gently moving parts with a tooth pick.
Worked fine.
I agree with Huss that oil alone ian't the answer.

I posted a video on my instagram (matchacub) if anyone should want to see.

Mistral75, thanks for that.
I'll try and pop down there tomorrow or last day on Monday.

Looks like the repair centre will remain open until May and then a new Imaging Square will open in the summer somewhere in Tokyo.

"Since this was probably the last event they will hold in their Shinjuku showroom..."

Why is that? Have I missed something?

Thanks for the write up.
Couldn't make it myself.

I still use my K10 as well as my K5.

Lenses that, for me, have given best results from my bag are as follows:
Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5
Pentax M50 1.8
Pentax-FA 100-300mm F4.7-5.8
Pentax-F 28-80mm F3.5-4.5

I have the M100/4.
Great lens, but mine also has a blue foggy hue to it which in turn leaves a blue hint on my photos.
A real shame.

Ricoh Imaging Square Shinjuku renewal

I've no idea what the rest is like in Ginza, but land is roughly 40 million yen/square metre.

It's situated at a famous crossroad with the Nissan gallery across the street, surrounded by boutiques.

I was there only two weeks ago at a rock musicians gallery.
It tends to host galleries by more high profile photographers.

I always preferred the layout of the Shinjuku branch and the service centre is there.

Thinking of buying a K10D

Solid camera.
Have had mine from new.
It still gets a run out now and again.
I also have a K5.

The K5 is the better camera, so to speak.
However, the K10 has an appeal and without question still produces great images.
I think these days we are spoilt for choice so will always be looking at something "better".
It was a good camera when released and that hasn't changed...unless one starts comparing camera features.

Once it's.gone, it's gone.
I had stuff of my fathers and ended up keeping only his military uniform a camera, and some other small bits and pieces.
I took everything else to the charity shop.

Definitely some regret in letting some go.

Have a hard think about it.

I got mine working too.
The mirror was locked up, but took a chance on it.

Without being an expert, personally i think it had seized up from inactivity.
Bought from a camera fair as "junk".

Got it back home and teased the mirror down by hand, many clicks later it was still staying in the up position.
I then started to gently move the curtain by hand with the film door open.
Many more later it was firing automatically when cocked.
I fired off a load of shots in bulb mode.
Then put a lens on try try different shutter speeds.
It finally started working like expected.
But 1 in 10 shots would still fire automatically without pressing the shutter.

I came back to it a few days later and began firing shots off again.
Seems like all is good now.

Probably spent an hour total with it.

Haven't put a film through it yet because it needs new seals.

Olaf, you could check this link:

October 2019 Events in Tokyo | Tokyo Cheapo

It isn't everything, but it does cover flea markets and some events.

The leaves won't be changing colour in October.
It's still about 28 degrees in the day time here, and around 20 degrees at night.
Late November is usually best.

Just walking around Tokyo is fascinating in itself.
Go to the Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku if it's a clear day and enjoy the view.

Agree with Squirrel that a wide angle lens is very useful.
First-time visits to the places mentioned are great.
There are a lot of visitors here at the moment for the rugby world cup.

I think it 's down to, although the model has been announced and will be shown for the 100th anniversary, it will actually be released next year, the 101st year anniversary.

He goes on to complain why a model hasn't been released thus far and questions why one won't.

Got mine laying on their sides in an air tight box.
So far, so good.
I think for lenses from the 70s and 80s i have given them some care and attention.

I mean, if they got through decades unscathed then my storage shoild keep them going another 40 years.

Original kit lens for the Pentax SF1n (1989)?

Got some MZ series cameras, 3, 5, 10, which I really like, zippy autofocus and nice, but compact ergonomics. Completely opposite to the oder SF series.
The viewfinder is a huge attraction of the SF cameras.

Don't want to stray off topic, but how do the P series viewfinders compare?

I'm thinking to get the F35-70.
Just finished a roll of Agfa using an F 28-80 so will get them developed first.

SFXn seems like a solid camera, great viewfinder compared to the MX series.

Japan has a love affair with limited stuff.
Pentax is no stranger to limited designed bodies and anniversary models.

I like these cameras and they are good for the collectors.
This has all come about because of the 100th anniversary.

I don't get all the negativity.
