I wanted to say thank you for recommending Advance Camera Repair for my lens issue! They fixed it with no problem, even what Ricoh/Pentax Japan said no! Wahoo! Have a great weekend.

Item Description
This is the beautifully historic lens. I purchased it about 2 years ago from a forum member who lived in Sweden. He was amazing and very helpful. I have gotten some awesome photos with it over the years and can share some samples if desired. I’m selling it for less than what I bought it at simply because of continued use and age. I honestly don't want to get rid of it cause I love it but since I recently purchased the new D FA* 70-200, it's time for this one to go to a new home!

The lens creates beautiful FA style photos. Cosmetically it’s in very good shape for a 20 year old lens and there are no glass issues like scratches, oil marks, fungus, haze, etc. The aperture works great and is clean. In addition, the power zoom works… a nice added feature.
The sale of the lens includes…
1. Front and rear lens caps
2. original carrying case in excellent condition
3. Lens Hood

Worth Noting:
1. Dust: a few dust specs on inner elements. All lenses this old have it!
2. Lens had a slight infinity focus problem which was recently fixed! The issue was a few loose screws inside. Everything now works great!

Finally, I can provide additional extra photos if needed. I have a few close-ups of the very minor scuffs that are on the body of the lens and the hood but I didn't add them because I figured the 10 I uploaded were the most important. Have a great one!

Thanks! It's good to know that it is estimating conservatively. But I guess I'd rather a slightly more accurate estimate. I understand the limitations that would require a conservative estimate though. Thanks again!

My K-3ii, on a freshly formatted 32 gb card, will say there are approximately 600 or less images remaining for that card. Why can I shoot and fit almost 1000? I'm cant understand why there is such a difference between the top display count and the actual card count?

I shoot RAW on the first card and have the camera write a medium low quality JPEG to the second card.

Pixma Pro printer

I happened to be on the site this morning and saw that the Pixma Pro Printer offer (additional $50 off in the cart) was still live in the Pentax Forums site advertisements. I grabbed a screenshot which shows the date as today and the time as this morning. I attached it to this thread. This effectively brings the TOTAL Instant and Mail In rebates to $300. When I tried to purchase the printer through BH, the cart did not reflect the additional $50. Will you still honor this for me since I saw it advertised this morning and have proof? Thanks.

I saw a few weeks ago an offer for free marketplace access if you purchase from BHphoto through a link on PentaxForums website. Is this still available? Where? Thanks in advance.

It seems that the facility in Japan no longer services this model. Or, at least that is most consistent with what I was told. But did they really need to send it to Japan to get that answer? They couldn't have received that answer over the phone?

Also, do any of you know of any other Pentax repair specialists?

I recently received word from Precision Camera Repair that my FA* 80-200 f2.8 cannot be repaired! It seems that the lens made it all the way to Japan for repair and they said "lens is no longer serviceable." It doesn't auto focus properly. Any ideas on what I should do? It seems as though I am finished and that I have a giant paper weight!

Great shot! And it's cool to see another sports Pentax shooter. I shoot local high school sports also up here in Washington and since I'm a pentaxian, that's my trusted gear. I love the new DFA* 70-200! And if there is enough light, the REACH of the 150-450 is awesome for football! Maybe we can start something new in the sports world and in Pentax land as the up and coming underdogs! Hahaha. Good luck and happy shooting.

Camera to Lens communication.

Thanks guys, I'll give the cleaning a try. It's hard for me to understand that this is necessary though since all the equipment showing problems is new and has not been used in harsh dirty environments. I'll admit that the problem has only happened a few times and that I also just realized a firmware upgrade was needed. But I never had this problem (dirty contacts) with my k-5 for the entire 4 year period of use. If it is a hardware problem, I wanna get it fixed while still under warranty. Anyway, thanks!

QUESTION: Anyone ever have lens to camera communication issues? I have the monster DFA 150-450 and the DFA* 70-200 and on a few occasions I have noticed that my K-3ii wasn't registering the f-stop properly for either lens. My K-3ii hasn't had problems with other lenses. And I've never had a problem on my K-5. Thoughts? All equipment is fairly new and therefore contacts should be clean. Is this a warranty issue?

k-3ii exposure problem

Same day, seconds apart and it was overcast so there definitely wasn't a cloud issue that cause less light. Also, I depressed the shutter release button twice so it wasn't a bracketing issue.

I can clean the lens/camera connections but both are months old. I feel like I NEVER had these problems with my k-5 in all 5 years of heavy use and now after 5 months my k-3ii and d fa* are giving me problems?! I'm a little perplexed.

Does anyone know if these new D FA* lenses need firmware updates? Could this be an issue that might be fixed? Also, any ideas how to better diagnose? Thanks for your expertise!

k-3ii exposure problem

Why would my k-3ii and D FA* 70-200 take two photos, one right after the other with the same settings like this (see below)? All is exposure settings (and mode) are the same: Manual, f3.2; 1/640th; ISO 400. Flash did not fire (it's a k-3ii with no pop-up). Differences in EXIF data are below:

Image 1 (proper exposure):
Focal Length: 70
Metering Mode: pattern
Subject Distance Range: Close View

Image 2 (under exposed):
Focal Length: not recorded
Metering Mode: center weighted average
Subject Distance Range: Distant View

I'll mention that I have had some intermittent lens to camera communication problems. But that was more with my k-5. Thoughts?! PLEASE!!!

Thanks again everyone! This has helped me understand Pentax's implementation of it all! I will ask, does the K-3ii wireless mode use radio (since it has no pop-up flash)?

Wireless Trigger for sports

Game, not practice. No flash. I'm using the V6 and flash as transceivers/receivers for the cameras to communicate. I would put a snoot or something like that on the flash bulb to black it out. The challenge is figuring out a way to get the camera to send a signal through the transceiver at a shutter speed faster than 1/180th which is why I asked about the x-sync port.

---------- Post added 10-06-16 at 05:38 PM ----------

Thanks! But I'm not looking to use flash. Im simply looking to use the V6 transmitter and flash as triggers for my cameras. I want two cameras to take two simultaneous photos of the same moment in time. I would muzzle/snoot the flash to black it out. The challenge is figuring out if my camera will fire the transceiver at a sports acceptable shutter speed... 1/800th or faster.

Any way I can use my k-3ii and cactus v6 (transceiver and flash combo) to wirelessly trigger my k-5 set in a stationary position behind a basketball backboard? I wanna catch a shot from behind the backboard and will myself be stationed some 30 feet away. I know I can use the v6 but what if I want both cameras to take photos together, simultaneously firing, capturing two sets of images from two different angles, and at acceptable sports shutter speeds... 1/1000 of a second!? Make sense?

Thanks MigMackCam! So when you use the Custom Menu 21 feature that prevents the popup flash from affecting exposure, does the camera simply turn the power of the flash way down and create settings that will ensure the popup doesn't affect exposure?!

When the K-5 is in wireless mode, is it actually transmitting via radio? Or is it basically working optically and that's why the flash has to pop up?

If it's radio, does the Cactus work as a slave?

K-3II AF-C and Lock question

I tested it out. "AF Hold Low" means the AF lock is held for a low amount of time. "AF Hold High" means the lock is held for a much longer amount of time before reacquiring focus. Enjoy!
