Adobe Lens Profile for 35mm f/2.0 SMCP-FA AL

There is a profile for the new HD version of that lens. Since they are almost identical except for the coating it should work just fine.

Welcome to the forum! It’s great to see that these lenses still get so much love. I and many others will probably be interested in seeing your work done with these lenses. So if you post your work on any of the video platforms feel free to post it here and share it with us.

Video profile question

Shooting flat profiles in video is like shooting RAW in photography. You retain as much shadow and highlight detail as possible to increase the possibilities in post processing and color grading. Of course if you’re happy with the default profile of your camera there’s no need to shoot flat but when you’re after a certain look that can only be achieved in post processing then it’s best to go for a flat profile.

Here’s a short explanation on YouTube by Peter McKinnon:

I did take mine apart as well because it had the sticky/oily aperture problem so I could maybe give you some advice. Unfortunately I can’t see the pictures.

I think I have a problem

One of those threads again...

I don’t get all these „if my wife/girlfriend knew“ posts. If your wife/girlfriend would get mad at you because you‘ve spent your money on things you like that are important to you then your problem is not spending that money but rather not having the right wife or girlfriend that supports your hobbies and/or passion.

Yes you’re right but I suppose the OP is talking about the WR because sticky aperture is only a „known problem“ on the WR version.

I suppose it’s a problem that is specific to the D-FA 100mm WR. It’s not the classic sticky blades problem that some vintage lenses suffer from. It’s rather oil on the aperture control ring that is not supposed to be there. It creates too much friction leading to overexposure that gets worse the more you stop down. I don’t know where the oil is coming from but my guess is that it’s a manufacturing error and they used too much oil on any of the mechanisms inside.

The problem with the sticky aperture on the 100mm is actually not the blades but oil on the ring that moves them. It’s a pretty easy fix that I have done myself twice on my lens and it stopped being an issue since I stored it front down in my bag/shelf. Here’s the thread on how to fix it: Pentax DFA 100mm Macro WR sticky blades? - PentaxForums.com

I actually posted this before in the monthly contest with the topic sky but I think it fits this thread perfectly so I‘ll post it here again.
It’s taken at a bird watching hut that is perfectly aligned with Polaris at the North Sea in Germany. It’s a composition of 100 thirty second exposures for the sky and three exposures with light painting on the hut.

I really like your first one with the boat. Great picture!

Lens Recommendations for deep field astrophotography

If you want to get serious about astro there is the new William Optics Redcat 51. It’s a very good and affordable entry into deep sky astrophotography. And the lens can also be used during the day for birding, landscape or whatever you like.

Pentax 6x7 Service in Europe?

I have found two Places in Germany that do service for Pentax film cameras. I have no personal experience with them. Just what I found doing a quick search.

Pentax - Kamera-Spezialwerkstatt Ralf Hügle, Dessau

Reparatur PENTAX Kameras - KAMERAZEIT ist offizieller PENTAX Servicepartner

The second one doesn't list medium format cameras specifically but it might be worth asking them.

edit: Also found this one in Austria: https://fototechnik-mayrhofer.at/leistungen/
They don't list Pentax medium format as well but they seem to have a few decades of experience with all sorts of cameras and optics.

Sean Tucker, one of my favorite photographers on YouTube has just posted a great video about street photography and his experience with the GR II. Makes me want one even more. Just like him I find that I often leave my big camera (K-1) at home and my phone to be lacking in some areas like manual controls and image quality. So there is a gap to fill. ;)
