Pentax SMC A / M Menu Settings

The Pentax SMC M 35-70 1:2.8 35mm-70mm is a great lens. Just use it in M-Mode, choose a ISO (start low like ISO 100), next choose a Aperture on the Aperture ring and than push the green button to get the right timesetting. If it is to slow, increase the ISO or change aperture. After you found the right settings you can just take pictures and ignore the most of the time the settings, exept when the lightsituation changes. But in most cases you can hold your settings without changing anything. That was the way we shoot in foreign times with analog cameras. The Pentax SMC M 35-70 1:2.8 35mm-70mm has great color and rendering and is a lot of fun. The best is you can set the focus on 70mm and push the zoom forward to wider angles and get always sharp pictures! Try it! The lens is almost as good as the new DFA 24-70/2.8 I have both and was very impressed about the old manual zoom.

... can you post a link? I never found a metal hood except of the Heliopan, which fits perfect between the petals of the FA31.

You have to choose the short tele hood not the longer long tele hood. The shorter one works fine on FF. The long one is vignetting.

there is a solution for your big filter: the 58mm short tele hood from Heliopan fits to scew in the FA31 without vignetting. It is completly cylindric. That is why it fits in the FA31 and at the end you can srew in a 58mm filter or a stepUpring for your 77mm filters.
Heliopan make the only hoods in this style!

can also recommend the M 100/2.8. The Bokeh is almost as good as the Bokeh of my FA77. And the SMC 135/2.5 is wonderfull too, but a lot heavier. Try to get a M 100/2.8, you will love it.

Pentax DA*55 mm 1.4 vs FA43 mm 1.9

Both are brilliant lenses – no doubt. I have both and use them on APS-C and FF. Both have different charakter. You should try them and decide. If you love the FA77 it would be logical to get the other FA Ltds. too. They are all special. The FA 43 has excellent sharpness at f4.0 and can produce a good 3D effect. But you have to learn to use it. It is a lens that will shine if you know it good. The DA*55 is faster and is better at f2, but it has no aperture ring and no screwdriven AF, if that is important for you. The DA*55 is not easy to use wide open. To get the best out of it at f1.4, you need to hold your cam very still, because the dof at f1.4 is razor thin and most people think the lens is not sharp at f1.4, because they can not manage to hold very still. all 3 lenses (FA77, FA43 and DA*55) are nice lenses for portraits ... but FA77 is magic.

One more thing: the DA*55 works better with the AF of the K3 than with the older models like K5. For wide open shots, the lens and the body have to be harmonized good

With this hood you can use your original lens cap!

... look at the pictures of "Crooski" the post before yours ...
and yes I meant quickshihft not Focus overdrive. Sometimes the mechanic is in bad position and the screwdriver trick helps.
... and make sure the sdm contacts are clean and fine.

with the Cactus V6II Triggers it should be no problem. You can do HSS with nearly every flash! And if it is not working exact you can tune the trigger to eleminate the little delay.

... just print as big as you want. No matter what effective resolution. If the motive is good, the resolution plays only a minor role. No photo of Helmut Newton was as sharp as you would take a picture nowadays, but they are outstanding and a pleasure to look at.
