Tips on portrait retouching?

We ended up agreeing on a high-pass filter + making the eyes pop more with some selective adjustments, we're both really happy with the result:

Hey all, long time no see (sorry, life has been... busy).

Photo in question: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

I shot with a model on Saturday, and she wasn't happy with the size of her pores on her cheeks in the photos. I've tried frequency separation (I end up smudging so much it looks just like the 'beauty filter' photo she sent me), and an inverted high-pass filter (I'm not sure it does enough), and the healing brush tool (which just makes her cheeks look weird).

I've scoured my postprocessing books, skimmed Amazon's options, looked on YouTube and Lynda, and I haven't found an answer three days in to this endeavour, help? I want to share about half a dozen of these shots, so I really need to learn how to do this.

Raw photo if you'd like to take a crack at it: Dropbox - Headshot.dng

Do you only use ND filters? I don't see how those could replace circular polarisers or IR filters.

This is a common stereotype that I think is actually quite unfair. Many frivolous lawsuits (like the stories about someone trying to sue the devil) are stopped by a judge at filing or summary judgement. Other so-called 'frivolous' lawsuits actually had merit, like the woman who was burned by scalding McDonald's coffee (if you don't know the full story, I strongly recommend looking it up). McDonald's no longer makes coffee that can give people 3rd degree burns. Medical malpractice suits changed the number of people who die from anesthesia from a 'tragic, but unpreventable' 1/6000 each year, to 1/200,000 each year, because juries insisted on giving the families financial recompense.

It's not stupid, and no consumer is suing a tripod manufacturer because their camera fell over and broke. It doesn't make sense to go to court for that (outside of small claims, if the company was really negligent).

I use a spacer ring to get the filter threads past the built-in lens hood.

I liked the Peak Design Clutch (though they also make a lighter version called the cuff, it doesn't look as cushy as the Clutch) with my K-30.

Sounds like a nice option for Lightroom exports. Now if sites like Facebook could stop compressing everyone's photos in such a terrible way...

To add to the others, it's not great for astrophotography to ruin my night vision like that. Super simple to set everything up for IR remote + mirror lock up.

Indeed.

That's why I've been unable to shoot on-site portraiture monthly, and a wedding with flash in December, along with a graduation and a diversity conference last year. All were totally impossible because my multiple flashes realised I was using a Pentax and refused to work. :D

Good one.

BHPhoto or Adorama?

...and B&H has always shipped things to me that arrived in impeccable condition, whereas Adorama sent me a star tracker with missing pieces, then continued passing me back and forth between the Adorama staff and the manufacturer. What's the point? None of it is useful data for the OP, just anecdotes.

The fine print of Adorama's policy is a bit stricter, so I stick with B&H.

 Guess you better change my signature. The FA 31, 43, 77, DFA 100, DFA 28-105 are all small lenses. I have one big lens for my K-1. It's great, but I do want small, too.

You could buy now, and return if you're dissatisfied. I've returned items to B&H Used without issues before, but their items are always in very good condition.

The K3 and KP are different market segments, too. Why are you comparing those when Ricoh has said time and time again that the KP is not a replacement for the K3?
