These were taken with my first digital camera, a Canon PowerShot G3 (a gift). Pics of clouds over various sites in Italy, taken during the last week in December, 2005, during the worst winter in Europe in 25 years! The first shows clouds over the Roman Forum on Christmas day, followed by clouds over the Arno River in Florence, later in the week. The final two are in Venice (temperature of 26F), with sunset over Piazza San Marco and clouds over the island of Burano.

4 shots of clouds over LI Sound on 24 May. The first day that we've had that really felt like spring, even if it didn't quite look like it! Taken with my K-3II and HD PENTAX-DA 16-85mm.

Ray,

Actually, you’re correct. We routinely wore wetsuits for our cold water sailing. The only good part of it was that the eel grass would die off when the water got cold, so the wet suits were only needed to protect against the normal splashes involved in the type of sailing we were doing!

I’ve been racing over a Thanksgiving weekend when the water temperature was 38F and the wind was blowing at 30 knots+. Without wetsuits, hypothermia would have been a certainty!

Edit: I dug out a couple of individual frames from movies (taken in 1975) of two of the sailboats we were testing in cold weather, obviously wearing wetsuits! These should give you some idea of why we needed to wear them, even without going for a swim. The second picture, by the way, is of an Aussie c-class catamaran (named Red Roo) that we modified by adding a hydrofoil to improve it's stability at high speed.

Very nice shots, Ray. I can tell you from personal experience that the same thing (stopping, that is!) happens to full size sailboats. Been there, done that, racing Tornado catamarans and experimental hydrofoil sailboats on Great South Bay, off the south shore of Long Island. The bay is infested with eel grass and, unfortunately, there is no such thing as a "rescue boat" during a race, so it becomes time to go for a swim!

Hi, Racer,

Looks like she's been buffed to a brilliant shine, as well as having her engines catered to!

As promised, some more from my visit to the Commemorative Air Force museum in Mesa, AZ. The first two are stills from a video of the first engine start and run-up for "Sentimental Journey" following maintenance. The next two were taken as she taxied out for her first post-maintenance take off, and the final shot is another still from a video of her as she flew overhead following take off. As before, all taken with my K-3II and HD DA 16-85mm lens.

I was out at the Commemorative Air Force (Arizona Wing) in Mesa, AZ last Thursday. Their B-17G was just pulled out of maintenance that morning and we got to see her up close. I got some good pictures and took a few videos of engine start, taxiing and takeoff from which I'll post some stills later. For now, here are 4 pics of "Sentimental Journey" sitting out in the hot Arizona sunlight while museum personnel get her ready for her first post-maintenance flight. All taken with my K-3II and HD DA 16-85mm.

If you look at my shots in this thread, you'll see that the vast majority were taken with the same lens. If you know what you're doing, you can get some pretty good shots with this lens, in spite of its poor reputation!
