Yes, terrible. I bet there are places in the world where one could be shot at after subjecting your camera to that much dust, dirt and water!
(To the unintiated, you have to look up some of Heie's videos).

Pentax K-1 FF Video Capability

Well, I had another look at it, since I hadn't tried it for more than a year, and found it is possible to use it after all!
The behaviour I remember when I got the Sigma 70-200 for my K-3, was that the lenses optical stabilization (OS) would be active in photo mode and also in Video mode up until pressing record. Now I find that its only enabled when focusing (either by half press or back button focusing). The OS loses power about 1 second after releasing the focus button. I guess that makes sense from a power saving perspective. So either I really stuffed up my initial testing or there has been change in one of the firmware versions along the way.
So now I can get effective OS by keeping focus active during recording. For video, I can ensure actual focusing doesn't get stuffed up (by the cameras rather clumsy video focusing) by switching the AF switch on the lens to Off and holding the back AF button down all the time. Unfortunately, it's not so convenient for stills mode anymore.
No idea if this handling of in lens OS applies to the K-1 though.

Unfortunately, on the K-3, a lens with image stabilization doesn't work. With my Sigma 70-200, I can see the image stabilization working in Video Live View but as soon as I start recording the camera software turns off power to the lens!

It would be for NFC transfer, most likely to transfer images to your smartphone and thence to google photos or whatever.

Yes, I was also disappointed, since there was a version on display earlier which had an NFC symbol on it, so I was kind of expecting it to have it.

Seems it does have wired tethered functionality according to the feature comparison on PentaxForums:

Seems like Pentax just didn't bother. There is a version of PK_Tether that works with the K-3, I have tried it.

Full K-1 Spec list

I would guess none of those things add much to the price. The Video capability is very basic and they appear to have spent no time on it since the K-3 release, there are no features over what the K-3 has as far as video is concerned. All the new developments in it seemed to be aimed at stills photography from the specs I've seen so far.
Seems to me this is low a spec as one could expect from their first FF DSLR, and therefore the cheapest they were likely to make.
I hope there is some feature that has been kept under wraps, one or two people have alluded to a surprise or two in store. We shall see in the next day.

Which SD card for K3?
Posted By jhmos

In a K-3, I would only go for the Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-I for the ability to read it faster in a good card reader, otherwise it offers little advantage in camera over the much cheaper Sandisk Extreme UHS-I (45MBs or more for the later ones).
What I use in my K-3 is an Extreme Pro in slot 1 where I write RAW images to and a Sandisk Extreme in slot2 where JPG and Video get written. Most of the time The slower card ends up 1/3rd the space used when slot 1 is full, so it doesn't take long to copy.

Few UHS-1 SD cards can actually sustain high speeds. Its really only the Sandisk Extreme Pro that can reliably do 90MB/s write speed, which is why its the only card recommended for use in the Blackmagic Pocket cinema camera recording in RAW mode. Thats just for 1080p, high quality 4K is going to need UHS-II but I doubt Pentax is going to do high quality recording like Prores or RAW, even at 1080p.
I had assumed that you can use UHS-I cards in a UHS-II SD card slot if you don't need very high speed. Is that not right?

I still have mine. It can either take a special rechargeable silver oxide battery or 2 G13/LR44 type batteries. I can't remember how long the rechargeable battery lasted before it died, some years, but I didn't bother replacing it because it seemed a bit expensive.
It is actually possible to use it with a DIY capacitor storage cell by packaging up a suitable capacitor to fit the battery profile. If there is good enough light (or you have a bright torch to charge it in low light) you will never have to buy batteries again!

K-3 ii Pixel shift for slide/negative copying?
Posted By jhmos

I guess pixel shift could be worth it for better colour, but I can't try it since I only have a K-3. Resolution is already OK for slides, so I'm not sure I would be using pixel shift to realize better resolution.
I would use an incandescent lamp for better colour purity.
My settup uses a projector without its lens and the camera with a DAF100 Macro lens focused on the slide. It is very quick with remote control feeding.

Would not have seen that NFC logo if you hadn't pointed it out. Oh dear, its going to be hard for me not to want those modern conveniences.
I was thinking about how the screen could be used for video, if it were practical to look down at the screen with the camera against your body for stability. But what would be ideal though is if live view could be seen through the viewfinder. It occurred to me, what if there could be a little lens in the body behind the screen and you could flip the screen right around and ... ;)
Also hoping for real SR during video.

Cool, I have thousands of them between mine and my Dads old ones (going back to the 50's). They are a great legacy. I hope to get through digitizing them
some time.

I'll send you a PM for that RAW link, thanks. I am away from my desktop with darktable installed till next week, but I'll try it out then.

Well yes actually. It is really RAW development, the RAW file itself is pretty useless till its converted to something we can actually see and that something has to based on some sort of profile to get displayed in a reasonable fashion. What we want is a profile with parameters that give a starting point similar to the out of camera JPG (which is usually pretty good) from which we can change as desired or required.

I don't use LR much, but I do have a similar problem with Darktable. Someday I hope to put some time into making a better profile for it to better match the in camera JPG by default without much fiddling around. Any chance of getting the RAW for that image? I'd like to see what Darktable does with it.
And Kodachrome? How long ago was that? I love Kodachrome, but I thought you could neither buy or have have it processed any more.

Peak Design Capture Pro Dropped My K-3 Today

Sorry you had that happen.
I have had mine for maybe one and a half years and always used to have mine attached to my belt but recently started using it with my Vanguard backpack. I both cases though I have the clip mounted so the camera slots in from the top. For the backpack I have the Capture Pro clip going across the shoulder strap, with the clip backplate at the back of the strap. You may need to use the longer screws to do this though. Even with adjustment screw at its loosest, the camera plate should not come out (unless it was really worn down or something I guess). The Capture Pro release button can be twisted to lock it and stop it depressing, I would be using that habitually if the clip is not oriented for top entry.
I used mine XC skiing this year and found it worked well mounted on the backpack. Belt mounted was impractical.

Poll: Pentax Battery Lifetime

Mine is still going after 18 months, so I can't tick any box. Only have the one Pentax battery, my other three are from ebay, one for $22 and the other two for $11 each. I don't deliberately cycle through them, just whatever comes out of the bag first. I have not noticed any difference between them yet but I guess time will tell.
