Very cool topic!

Here's a shot I took in Kowloon a couple of months ago with a photography Meetup group. It was supposed to be a night-time, black-and-white project but we started too early and ended before it truly got dark. All these styrofoam boxes were from a market. They do reuse them but eventually they get beat up and discarded and end up floating around the oceans somewhere... This part of Kowloon is allegedly one of the most densely-populated areas on the planet.

Thanks for starting us off again Eva!

This past weekend was the big weekend for dragon-boating in Hong Kong. Teams from all over the world participated and it looked like a good time was had by all. I am lucky enough to live within walking distance of one of the race venues so I watched a few races yesterday morning before it got too hot and I had to retire to the pool.

I'm with you. When I lived in Panama I used to see huge flocks of pelicans (like 40 birds). When I visit Florida I see lots of them but not in such great concentrations. Endlessly entertaining to watch as they're such graceful fliers but it's such an ungainly looking splat when they hit the water for fish...

I don't think my pictures contribute anything new to this story, but this is certainly a lovely lens, even on full frame. I can't imagine ever parting with it.

It looks like it might be a steam pressure gauge, though the mechanical contraption that it's mounted to is certainly a mystery... Look here for a Federal Warranted gauge that looks nearly identical: Vintage 6'' Brass Federal Steam Pressure Gauge 160 PSI Chicago-Marshalltown | #458796327

Maybe it was associated with a pasteurization system?

Worked in the yard yesterday and found a number of photogenic subjects.

#1 is a very common, rather small moth. I haven't been able to identify it. -- Update: It's a type of planthopper, which I guess isn't a moth at all...

#2 is new to me. There were lots of them on a palm tree and at first I thought they were bees (which also love the palm when it's flowering). -- Update: Flower Chafer (Euselates ornata, Cetoniinae, Scarabaeidae), I think

#3: Not sure. Some kind of cerambycidae? -- Update: Longhorn Beetle (Tribe Callichromatini); Chelidonium Argentatum

#4: Not a clue. This looked like a small bundle of leaves hanging from the ceiling outside my bedroom on Saturday night, but by Sunday morning it was crawling across the terrace. -- Update: A bagworm moth, psychidae family. From Wikipedia: The caterpillar larvae of the Psychidae construct casesout of silk and environmental materials such as sand, soil, lichen, or plantmaterials. These cases are attached to rocks, trees or fences while resting orduring their pupa stage, but are otherwise mobile.

All of these were taken with my K-1 II and DA 35 F2.8 Ltd.
