Taking a step further - new lenses or upgrade body (K-x)?

I started my digital photography journey with a Kx, awesome little camera, used it for two years and I did end up feeling my hands were tied with functionality, automatons, and most importantly.....weather sealing. I handed my Kx down to my daughter who still uses it today. I moved on to a K5 and have no regrets there, I used it for at least five years exclusively, one of my favorite lenses I saved up and bought is the DA 18-135, this lens is and was always been an awesome performer. I still have this camera and lens and still use it, but I now have two K3s (selling one at the moment, look me up in the mayketplace) these are awesome cameras, but I still have a special place in my heart for my K5. Over the years I have saved up and bought more lenses, old ones and new. I now mostly use the DA* 16-50, and 50-135 f2.8 lenses for majority of my work, and so they have taken over for my DA 18-135. I still that lens on either my K5 and my K01 which I picked up for fun and it turned out to be an excellent more compact camera to use with 18-135 as a walk around ser up. Recently I picked up the DFA 100mm f2.8 WR and am really impressed with that lens.
But even though the KX is a great little camera, you might want one with more features, but depth, and weather sealing, I'm sure all mentioned Pentax cameras will serve you well, lenses are where it's at for me...

actually this is what I wanted to achieve, I was attempting to freeze the action and I was aware of the results. here is a shot I did a couple years ago and it turned into a great shot....

when you are trying to hold steady with 450mm at 1/250 sec, it seams about impossible to get sharp shots and show the movement of the rotary blade on the helicopter, I imagine some practice will be needed

Im saving up for the K1, but will still hang on to my K3 mainly for use with my 150-450 lens(longer reach in APSC and more MPs) I can work around the shortcomings you mentioned in your post. However I too am looking forward to seeing how this lens performs on the K1

I started out with the Kx, moved up to K5 and used it for several years. Just last year I bought two K3s on the cheap, $500 for black body and grip, shutter count 460, right here in the marketplace. $300 for silver body w/grip from reputable local pawn shop. I love them both, the auto focus blows my K5 away, and I am very happy with the auto focus for my needs. I recommend the K3

I picked one up back in July for $400USD in mint condition and only 400 clicks on it,it even included the battery grip, love this camera so much I picked up another yesterday at a pawn shop that I have been watching over the last 11 months. It is a silver edition with battery grip with only 4000 clicks on it. The starting price 11 months ago was $860 USD, I got it for $300.
Now I have two K3s, 1 K5, and a K01. Sure loving the K3s tho.

I cannot speak for the other lenses but the DA* 50-135mm lens is one of my main "go to" lenses along with my DA* 16-50mm lens, I keep them both mounted on my two K3s...

Deciding on a Pentax DSLR to buy

I started out in DSLRs with a K-x "beginners DSLR" , even though I already know photography, I still needed to learn the ways of digital.
It wasn't long after getting that camera I upgraded to the K-5 and I just love that camera, the K-x went to my daughter which she still uses to this day for sending me pics of the grandbaby. back then I was very strapped for cash so I made the most out of my K-5, and up untill this year I used it religiously. first "nice" lens I bought for it was the 18-135mm, that lens was my main "go to" lens and the shots I got from it were 90% keepers, I will never get rid of this lens, it now sits on my "fun" camera, the K01.
over the last eight years I have collected lenses and camera bodies as of recently. Ya im a bit better off financially but I am also a bargain shopper when it comes to my gear. Out of all my gear (lenses and Bodies) only my K-5, K-x(gifted to me) and 55-300 PLM lens was bought brand new, all the rest is bought used, some bought from here in the marketplace, and some bought from local pawnshops seeing as I live in a city with tons of pawn shops(Vegas) As some have stated here, the marketplace deals are usually legit and you can get some killer deals on some previously loved gear here. I have bought all my DA star zooms here, even a K01 in mint condition, and a rarely used (brand new condition) K-3 with battery grip for a total of $400.
I monitor all the pawn shops here locally and have managed to pick up two killer deals recently, back in July I picked up a DA 150-450mm zoom for just $1000 price out the door, after watching it for six months patiently because the starting price was $1800, this thing is in brand new mint condition! Just yesterday I picked up a silver prestige K3 w/battery grip for just $300 after seeing it sit on the shelf at the pawn shop for 11 months with a starting price of $860, this camera has no scratches on it, although the grip has scratches on the bottom, but thats expected with the silver cameras. it only has around 4000 clicks on the body (verified online) I get these deals because I know what Im looking at and dealing with, and am a very good judge of the condition of these items, plus I am very patient, especially knowing that the general customer that goes in there to buy stuff is not a photographer, and if they were they are usually not looking for Pentax gear, they like the shiny Canikony stuff.
so seeing from what I just wrote here, I can assure you that used gear can be had on the cheap and CAN be in good condition. and I also recommend the K-3, I haven't been shooting them much yet but from what I have been shooting I am very pleased with the results, I do also recommend the K-5 series of cameras as well. I will most likely not sell my K5, may give it to one of my close family members just so I know it is still around.

My apologies for the long winded post...

I was always interested in the K01, and earlier this year I got a chance to get one, purchased a black one with only around 4000 clicks in it.
Turns out I really dig this little camera, it is just a fun camera especially for walk around. I have it in a bag with older manual lenses due to the fact that the AF pretty much sucks. I keep this camera in my car for emergency photos for the times oi don't have my DSLR a on me, with never get rid of it.....

Yup Vegas.....and not THAT pawnshop.
I've driven by that pawnshop and they always have a big line to get in, plus I hear they charge

Sounds Iike you got a good deal, how many tons is it, mine is a 4 ton package rooftop unit (so it needed a crane, more $$$) and it is both gas and electric.
Ya it really sucked the last two months in this heat but we adjusted, the upstairs unit was working great though so we were comfortable at night.
I actually got a good price for Vegas, seeing as most folks are averaging $10000 for a 4 ton rooftop package unit, however I work construction and have connections .....

Hey you are not alone, My main unit that cools the lower portion (4ton) of my house took a dump on us about 6 weeks ago and here I am trying to survive through it in Las Vegas and the temps at the time of breakdown were 115 degrees. we managed though.
the home warranty company is crap, in fact they were the ones who replaced the compressor about ten months ago and I had to pay 1200 bux out of pocket, and the damn thing lasted only ten months, now they want another $600 from me to replace it under the part warranty. I am so sick of this old unit. An HVAC guy informed me that just changing the compressor out never works, it works of in moderate temps, but when the temps jump up, they end up giving out, which is exactly what happened to me.
I had to wait to get a loan, but finally today they will be replacing the complete unit, gonna cost $5250. but on the upside I was able to get a loan for a little more and it made it possible to purchase my DFA 150-450mm lens for $1k, so things actually worked out for the good in the long run.
now that the temps are cooler here in Vegas I really wont have much of a chance to try the new unit out in extreme temps.
On another note; I know this is originally "why I wont buy a K3" thread.......there is a sweet, low shutter count, K3,w/grip in mint condition sitting in the pawn shop just creaming out to me to buy it, however I am waiting for the price to come down a bit further and then I will pounce on it with a ridiculous offer.....
