For Sale - Sold: Sigma 300 2.8 (For Nikon Mount) w/ Sigma 1.4 TC & Filter Kit

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Sigma 300 2.8 (For Nikon Mount) w/ Sigma 1.4 TC & Filter Kit

Asking Price
$1,500.00 USD

Item Location
Maryland (United States)

Item Description
Just purchased the Sigma 120~300 2.8 so I am selling my Sigma 300 2.8 HSM Prime. Incredible lens, even wide open it produces spectacular images. Focus is extremely fast and dead on with both the D7100 and D700.

Included with this sale is the matched Sigma 1.4 TC (turns this lens into a 420mm f/4), a Hoya Skylight 1B 46mm drop-in filter, the original Sigma clear 46mm drop-in filter, and a Sigma 46mm CPL drop-in filter.

Lens is in great condition, only shows normal signs of wear and tear. The hood (which is coated aluminum) does have a couple dents in it and is worn (like that when I purchased it). This lens comes with a black LensCoat neoprene cover. Glass is in flawless condition with no visible signs of dust.

The TC is practically brand new, so mint condition on the TC.

The clear Sigma filter is in overall excellent condition. The Hoya Skylight Filter and the Sigma CPL is in mint (new) condition.

This lens is a beast, a fantastic performer! I purchased the 120~300 2.8 because as many of you know I shoot from blinded water-crafts and often find myself to close to compose a shot properly so need the zoom capabilities for framing purposes.

$1,500 Complete (Includes Shipping To CONUS Only)

Can I add USB 3.0 to desktop computer?

And the proper driver. USB 3.0 interfaces are backwards compatible and also will run off of 2.0 generic drivers, which in return will only operate at 2.0 transfer/communication speeds. If installing on a win based machine, select the drivers manually during installation and ensure you select the correct drivers from the manufacturers provided drivers.

I use my Tokina 2.8 at the extreme 11mm quite often. If it is close to being as sharp as the Tokina wide open I would be interested in it.

So what are my options for a flash that will shoot faster than 1/180?

To touch on the "blocking/overpowering ambient light" mentioned a few replies back, this can be accomplished to an extent using an an HSS pttl compatible flash and adjusting both flash and exposure compensation. Underexposing the frame while adding flash compensation (+) should help in this regard. As for wireless, optical triggering (as also mentioned) may be of some help.

Amazon.com: Prismacolor Premier Chisel Tip Markers, 8 Colored Markers: Office Products

Prismacolor markers - acid free, lightfast tested, archival approved. These are essentially what most artists use to sign pieces these days... :)

Edit: just notice the link is for the chiseltip ones, there are other tip types also.

Using CTO will help enable a clean consistent and uniform tungsten white balance which should in most cases match near exact to the actual stage lighting. As for which CTO to use, that depends on how much ambient light is within the scene - I keep a 1/2 CTO attached to my main flash at all times. Unfortunately PP can not fully correct white balance issues when the scene includes lighting from many different types of light sources, gel'ing at time of exposure fixes this issue.

And that is where gel'ing comes into play.

Of course, none of that matters if you don't use flash anyways

Good shots @rawr .

FYR: A quick flash of CTO fixes this color cast while still keeping the proper ambient light within the scene.

Pentax vs Nikon & Canon Lenses: a hypothesis?

@Aristophanes covered it pretty well for you on the short lenses, bet here is your issue:

None of the above quoted is possible, from Pentax, Canon or Nikon (and this is referring to the WR sports zoom and working with that budget). The 50~200 will get you absolutely nowhere shooting it with any sport (any kid running around the house for that matter). It's a descent lens only with good rich light, anything else it is a dog. You may think ISO can speed it up, well, it can - the only problem is it doesn't resolve good, you will lose massive amounts of unrecoverable detail starting at about 2000ISO with this lens.

The only option you have for a WR lens in that focal range is the *60~250 f/4 (from Pentax that is), but even that is rather slow for sports (both f/stop and AF slow). If your budget doesn't allow for that, then my recommendation would be the Tamron 70~200 2.8 (only as a cheaper alternative) and take the chances on the weather.

Quite a bit higher up - makes anything from any aps-c camera in the pentax line (dslr, compact, etc..) look like decades old technology when comparing IQ, does suck that they are near featureless though compared to current offerings.

I would call them and try to do the deal over the phone, they may ship to canada that way. That is a great deal on a lens that replaced both my *50~135 and *200 when I was shooting with it on the pentax body...

Those images can't be accurately balanced in post, white balance will not work on those. The issue is the many different light sources/types, @Nuff 's work on your image shows what you will run into - look at the fluorescents. These are un-fixable via white balance and have to be taken properly at time of exposure. A flash with a CTO gel will solve your issue if you run into this problem again...

@carrrlangas - thanks for sharing!

For me, I never pick out framing or matting options, my framer actually does that for me, I pretty much hand him the print and he works his mojo. I know he tries to use tones in the frame and matte colors that blend with the picture itself without overpowering the picture.

If those are paper prints, then I would have glass or plexi-glass used in the framing.

Excellent shots! There is an easier way when using recent Pentax bodies, use CIF with a wired shutter release, you won't even have to touch the camera after you set it - just lock the shutter release. I use the cheap opteka plastic sstabilizer as ground feet for the body to ensure the camera doesn't tip over with certain lenses. ;)

:)

These three were used:

Sigma 300 2.8 DG (New Condition): $1,400
Sigma 100~300 f/4 (Good Condition): $400
Nikon 85mm 1.8 D (Near Mint): $160

Hard to say which one was the best deal, all three are incredible lenses with all three sharp as a tack wide open, no stopping down needed for any of those. I have in the past got some pretty good deals on pentax glass but nothing as good as any of the ones listed above.
