Glad I don't work for / with you! Can't spare a minute or two to appease the backbone of the company you work for? You're the kind of boss that spawned the creation of unions! I suppose you're against those as well.

I've worked both sides of the mgmnt. desk as well, and I can tell you using these phrases for the purpose you describe is a perfect way to build a disgruntled work force. Cutting off the conversation because YOU think it's irrelevant is totally dismissive of the associate you're talking to and will certainly cause you to lose the respect of those workers. If an associate raises an issue, it's because it's important to THEM at that time. Would you treat your child in the same manner? Lack of communication is perhaps the biggest reason for a lack of respect from your work force.

I realize a mgr. must look at the "big picture", and associates are really focused on only their particular role, but a manager must manage people as well as the work flow. It only takes a minute or so to explain why things are the way they are, rather than just blowing people off. That's what separates a good manager from a bad one.

My manager has 3 phrases that cover anything that may pop up, yet solve nothing.

They are:
"It is what it is"
"Do what you gotta do"
"Because I said so"

To me, these types of phrases scream incompetence! They're akin to excuses rather than solutions.

Remove K30 aperture control lever?

Thought I'd seen somewhere you could use manual lenses, but your statement makes sense. My K30 is dark for the first shot, then fine afterwards, for now at least. When it craps out completely, I'll use it as a dedicated Tak camera.

If I'm not mistaken, you can use any manual lens with an aperture ring, just not set to "a", without modifying of the camera with a bad aperture control.

Adapting filters - making sure I'm buying the right thing.

You're understanding is correct. This is why it's wise to buy a filter for your largest diameter lens, then use rings to adapt them to you smaller diameter lenses.

Hood Injury

Didn't notice the first link, and judging by the OP's response, neither did he (but that hood would surely be the best option). In any case, though the one I linked to is a tad short (it's mounted on a 50mm BTW), it seems he's more interested in the protection of a hard hood than the shading ability of a longer one (otherwise, a rubber hood would do), and the shorter one would fit the bill without having to wait a month for it to arrive from overseas.

Need help setting up wifi router with new modem

Was your old modem still working correctly? If so, no reason to switch. Comcast is trying to get you to rent their equipment. As long as you're getting the speed you pay for from your old modem, ignore them.

Here's some easily overlooked things to check:

Bad cables??? Perhaps when switching cables a wire came loose inside the connector or a pin bent?? Also easily overlooked, are you sure the modem is plugged into the correct (in) port on the router and the router in the correct port on your computer?? I don't have a d-link so I'm afraid my help is confined to just basic troubleshooting. Hope you find a solution soon.

Windows 10 - A Photographers Perspective

Tried it first on my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite, seemed to go OK so I put it on my desktop and nearly had a heart attack when the screen would not stop flashing after the final re-boot! Luckily, I had downloaded the .iso onto a DVD and was able to reboot into repair mode. I was able to revert to Win 7 without any damage to my system. Seems when Windows Update checked my system for compatibility, it failed to recognize I have an incompatible motherboard! Some research revealed some older m/b's and their associated drivers are not compatible with Win 10. Needless to say, both my machines are back to running Win 7.
The troublesome desktop system is from ZT Systems, with an Intel core i7-2600 cpu @ 3.4 GHz, 16 GB Ram, with a motherboard made by Gigabyte.

12 yrs. in retail, 20 in wholesale distribution.... I've learned a thing or two.

read the link in the OP's first post.

On a personal note:
On 10/26/14 I ordered the K-3/ Grip combo along with an AF540 flash from B+H.
On 11/30/14, AFTER the 30 day return window closed, I noticed the price of the K-3 combo dropped $100. I wrote to inquire about a price match expecting to hear,"sorry, it's been over 30 days". I'm happy to say their reply was " We've credited the card you used $100, Thanks for shopping B+H".

I rest my case!
Buh - Bye!

Really?? You think there's 7.3 billion potential customers for Adorama?? That's pretty lame, how many of those know or even care about Adorama OR photography gear?? If you had any knowledge of the retail business, you'd realize you can't afford to lose ANY customers! Yes, the battle for the buck IS that tight, why do you think price matching came along in the first place, not as a customer service, but to retain customers who'll otherwise go elsewhere!

Why has no one responded to the fact that B+H, perhaps Adorama's largest competitor, chooses to give refunds rather than store credits? Guess who gets my hard earned $$$!

They could, but not a very "customer friendly" response. Would YOU ever shop there again if treated that way??

Since pretty much ANY retailer would give you a refund of the difference if price drops during return period (see link in 1st post), it would be a wise business strategy to do the same.

You guys are happy with that response, and that's fine. Me? I'd get an RMA and spend my money elsewhere, even if I did frequent that establishment in the past.
I may lose out on shipping costs, but they'd lose a customer.

Not to rain on your parade, but, within 30 days I feel you should have gotten a cash refund, not a store credit. After all, you can return the item within 30 days, then buy from the lower priced seller, no??

Maybe it's just me, but a store credit is nothing to get excited about, it means you're roped into another purchase at that store instead of putting that money back in your pocket.

I should have been more clear when I said "only a kit lens". I was referring to cost, not quality. I've gotten some great photos using the kit lens, in fact, that's all I used on my *ist DL and K-20 when I had them. :D

There was a 52 -> 57mm step up ring stuck on the front of the lens he didn't realize was there until it was too late! Lucky it was only a kit lens. :)

Go to the "Your Orders" section of your account and click "return item". You can print your return label after you fill out the return info. Once you drop the pkg. off at UPS / USPS, Amazon will issue the refund as soon as the package is scanned into their system. When it shows on your credit card depends on when they download transactions, could be a week or so, but usually within a couple / three days.

Be sure to let them know on the return form that there's something wrong with the item and you won't be charged a shipping fee.

I work for a nationwide distributer of various products (not electronics). We ship items for Amazon, as well as other national retailers, from our own stock, those items are then paid for by Amazon or who ever it was we shipped them for. Our company name never appears on the packaging (the sellers name is on shipping labels), and all orders we ship for Amazon are indeed considered "fulfilled by Amazon", even though the only connection we have to them is a contract to ship things on their behalf. They have absolutely no control or say over our inventory.

Our core business is serving regional "brick and mortar" retailers, but do serve quite a few on-line retailers as well.

As mentioned earlier, they likely have no idea where or how much "bad" inventory they have on hand. They contract with other distributors across the country, and thus do not control their inventories. "Fulfilled" by Amazon doesn't necessarily mean it comes from one of their own warehouses, but rather from a contracted source.

There's no reason to believe they are purposely trying to mislead or dupe customers, especially considering their fairly liberal return policy. I'm sure if the O.P. contacted them about receiving an item in the "recall range", they'll certainly do all they can to make it right!

It's the button you saw on the back, just below the e-dial, it has nothing to do with video. The movie cam you see is for the switch just below the green button to toggle from still shooting to video mode.

Welcome to the forum, BTW!

My K-30 has begun doing this as well. So far it's just the first shot after being off for about 10 minutes or so. I've had it since Jan. '13, so I'm thinking a Black Friday K-3 may be in my future! :D

Also on the K-20, which is where I first learned of it. You can also delete a group of folders, if you have more than one, in the same way you can delete a selection of photos in a given folder.

In playback mode, spin the rear e-dial left until you see one folder, then hit the trash can to delete the folder and all the photos in it.
