K-3 II + Manual Lens + Live View + Green Button = ???

Oh, no worries. This is probably a fairly minor corner case too, at least as far as Ricoh is concerned. But with my K-01 I became somewhat (overly?) reliant upon focus peaking for getting precise focus using manual lenses. And it's a shame that on the K-3 II I can't easily get automatic exposure via stop-down metering while also using focus peaking.

Resurrect away! I still have an interest in seeing this fixed. (Not that it ever will be, but hey, a guy can hope.)

If you go back and look at the first page of this thread there are several confirmations that this occurs from multiple K-3 II users, and it appears unrelated to whether the lens has a conductive mount.

And the same problem occurs on the K-3 II if you switch an "A" (or later) lens into a non-A aperture setting.

My Cosina, for the record, has a shiny metallic mount.

Right. I'm gonna go with "UK rep doesn't know what he's talking about." Av mode doesn't work with M-type lenses!

Here are the exposure-setting options that DO work correctly in M mode:
  • Using the green button to set a correct exposure while looking through the viewfinder.

  • Using the green button to set a correct exposure in live view using a non-M lens.

  • Holding optical DOF preview (third position on the power switch) to view the meter in the viewfinder and adjust shutter speed.

  • Holding DOF preview in live view mode to view the meter on the top display and adjust shutter speed.

The green button not working with manual lenses only, in live view only, is an anomaly. If someone "decided" to make it work this way he needs a slap.

I have a hard time thinking it's intentional -- the green button does SOMETHING in live view (actuate the aperture, blink the screen) but it doesn't have the intended result. And it works using the viewfinder.

That has all the hallmarks of an "oops." One I hope will be corrected.

Yes, this works. Drop out of LV, meter, restart LV, focus, shoot. Not ideal.

Exactly my experience. I'm still leaning toward firmware bug.

If it were a problem with the contacts and lens mount conductivity then I doubt it would work in one mode (viewfinder) and not the other (LV).

M-mode green button metering works fine on my K-01 with the same lens, incidentally.

EDIT: And I just checked, in Live View mode it does stop down -- I see the iris close down briefly -- but it just doesn't change the exposure. And the DOF preview options (optical and digital) both seem to work properly.

Thanks for giving it a shot - but that's set, or I wouldn't be able to use this lens at all because I think it locks out the shutter button otherwise.

Is there anyone with a II and a manual lens who could try it? I'm thinking it's possibly a bug at this point.

OK, this has me stumped.

I'm using my K-3 II with a manual K-mount lens (specifically a Cosina 55/1.2 -- no AF, no A pin). When in Live View the green button doesn't seem to work to set exposure.

So I'm in M mode, of course. And with Live View turned off, I can hold the camera up to my eye, point it at dark and light things, and when I press the green button I can hear the aperture mechanism actuate and the shutter speed changes appropriately.

In Live View, I point the camera around at light and dark objects, and when I press the green button I can hear the aperture mechanism actuate, the screen blinks momentarily, but the shutter speed never changes.

Am I the one doing something wrong here? Can someone else check this out?

Green button works normally in M mode with modern (FA) lenses, as expected.
