I would call them, they're helpful people whenever I've had occasion to call. I just ordered a K-1 II the other day, it should be delivered from Adorama tomorrow. (!!)

Adorama's price is the same as B&H for the K-1 II, but they're giving more freebies. $200 gift card, strap, wrist strap, flash, and bag: Pentax K-1 Mark II DSLR Camera (Body Only)

Just ordered one last night.

I plan to buy, but will wait for the roundup just to make sure I don't miss out on anything else (also to ensure I use the PF link)

Pentax K-1 Mark II DSLR Camera (Body Only) 15994 B&H Photo Video

They're also including a Pentax padded strap - no experience with the strap...

$200 is enough to buy a battery grip and still have $50 left over for other stuff.

Seems like this is the Black Friday deal?

Printing your work - do you own a printer or do you send to a lab?

I think all these printers will run through a purge and self-clean cycle if not used for a certain period of time. To combat this, some users will run a small print job every few days (even printing a small 4x6 is enough to keep the ink fresh and avoid the purge cycle).

K-01 - why did it not suceed?

I think the K-01 is still quite popular, particularly with IR/full spectrum conversion people.

It is a bit of a cult classic now.

The point is the K-01 required a different kind of camera company, the same kind of company that would produce camera grips that the user can whittle down to their liking for a perfect grip (Pentax did that).

Nikon nor Canon would never have released the K-01. Is that a good thing? Depends upon your perspective.

The main thing is the only reason the K-01 was mirrorless was so the designer could reduce the "prism hump". There were no advantages to the design as it was. There was speculation that Pentax could design lenses that took advantage of that cavity - lenses that protruded into the body like some Nikon designs of the past. But they never came out. Had PDAF-on-sensor been available to Pentax at the time, and thus faster autofocus, the camera might have been more successful at the time - or at least, a K-02 might have happened.

Who are the photographers on youtube using Pentax?

Perhaps I'm unusual, I'm not as interested in gear reviews on YouTube - many of them (except likely the Pentax reviewers) are from people that get the equipment for free and so they're not going to tell you what they really think or the gravy train will dry up. I can't stand the Northrups. PHOTO UNIVERSE has recently moved into more of a fine art / photograph presentation format and I am greatly enjoying that move. His reviews were good but the art aspect is what intrigues/inspires me more.

Help With P-TTL Cord For Pentax

I use the Vello cord with my flash often, it works fine.

Make sure the cord is coming out the front of both connections - the cord should be coming out of the front of the camera and out the front of the flash. There's nothing preventing you from connecting everything backwards, in which case it won't work.

Printing your work - do you own a printer or do you send to a lab?

I really like your suggestion of finding a local framing/printing shop in my area. I will pursue this avenue first. I am hesitant to become another number at an online printing megashop (and I can get 8x10's and what not done cheaply at Costco, but it's on thin snapshot paper that isn't really professional in my opinion), which is why I wanted to buy my own printer. But working with a local business might give me the best of all worlds - I get quick turnaround and repeatable results, without having to deal with the headache of maintaining a printer. Thank you!

I am trying to decide if I should spend the money and buy a 13x19 (Canon Pro-100 or similar) or larger printer for my fine art photographs or create an account with a lab like WHCC. I am looking for prints other than resin-coated Fuji Crystal Archive color paper and Epson poster printer type prints you can get at Costco. I want prints on high-quality paper like Hahnemuhle, Ilford, etc.

Obviously buying a printer is more expensive, but I get instant feedback and more control. I already cut my own mats and do my own framing. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this topic - do you print your own work or send it off to a lab?

Wanted - Acquired: FA 28-80 or similar

Looking for a cheap 35mm zoom, like the Pentax FA 28-80. Flexible - willing to consider Tamron, Tokina, Sigma, etc options as well. Must have autofocus, an aperture ring and must be in reasonably good condition.

Please PM me with what you have and your asking price. I have a lot of expired drugstore 35mm C-41 film I could trade for (long shot I know but there's a market for this stuff) but willing to actually pay for it as well!

The PENTAX MZ-S Designers' Story

I had no idea that was the way it played out - I always assumed the MZ-S came first, and the MZ-D was going to be a digitalized MZ-S akin to the Kodak DSLR's of the time that were essentially F5's with digital tumors bolted on.

The MZ-1 looks wonderful. Sad it never came out.

I still say the MZ-S is the best camera I've ever used.

Luminar 4 & Aurora HDR - Humble Bundle

I got Luminar 3 for free from SmugMug. It was okay but nowhere near as good as they promised it would be. I'll say it was worth what I paid.

Frankly I thought at the time that RawTherapee was better. Have not tried 4.

I remain hopeful that Serif/Affinity will finally release the DAM they've said they're working on for years.

As long as my employer pays for my Creative Cloud subscription, I'll stick with Bridge and Photoshop (with a little bit of Lightroom peppered in). The day that changes I'll probably move to Bridge 100% and Affinity as my external editor. I've not found a DAM better than Bridge/Lightroom that I'd open my wallet for.

Kodak HC-110 & Ilford HC

The HC-110 formula is a trade secret and has not been duplicated.

Ilford's HC is not a drop-in replacement, but should give similar results to HC-110, once you adjust times/temps/dilutions for the difference in formula.

The 201 is not a P-TTL controller or master.

You'll need another 540, a 360 II, or one of the third party flashes (Metz are my favorite and until very recently basically your only option in P-TTL).

Cactus also makes a P-TTL transmitter that you can use if you don't want a flash on camera. Cactus V6 II HSS Wireless Flash Transceiver| CACTUS

Note that with P-TTL you can set the on-camera flash to merely act as the controller and not contribute to the exposure. A used Metz or 540 would be cheaper than a pair of the Cactus transmitters.
