K1 or FF mirrorless for manual lenses

I do as well. Or perhaps even 70s. That's why I have 2 KX cameras (and a Z-1 which still confuses me, but that's due to lack of use). I long lusted after the KP, but held out for FF, then had to wait financially. It now looks like I either buy in the spring, K-3 III, or wait for the K-1 III. My lenses are best suited to FF I believe, although some (K 2/28mm, 1.9/43mm, Voigt 1.4/58mm, and M 2/85mm) would work well on APS-C. But I'd miss a real wide angle. And I can't wait to see the new viewfinder on FF...

Any example of portrait shots taken with the PENTAX 645 80-160MM F4.5 SMC FA?

The zoom is 500g heavier - must be more difficult to do a portrait handheld, which is doable with the 150mm.
Biggest difference between the two portraits is the way the sun falls...

Thanks! That does clarify matters. I had switched off before the last posts in this thread, which explain the issue of thickness of the plate and the film. Great!

I know, but it was Pentax engineering info I believe, so not something that can easily be dismissed. And it would be the kind of damage not easily spotted after a few dozens of rolls - but in professional film days, it would be thousands every year. Small differences add up over time.
Still, something to check. It might still be false alarm.

KX mirror up, does not come down

I didn't get round to posting it (yet) because i was busy, but I read something about 67 mirrors remaining stuck and the following advice:

I did that with my KX and lo and behold, it worked! I still reckon the camera can do with a service, but this is good to know.
(I depressed the depth of field button with the mirror lock up switch, as that's what the KX has, then took a picture, then wound the film on and everything's back to normal.)

When I had this camera, I also converted a back this way and noticed no downsides. However, years later there was a post on this site suggesting that such converted 220 spools could damage the winding motor of the 645. It did not sound like a rumour either. I would investigate that if I went down the same route again.

I've got the SMC Takumar 2.5/135mm, 2nd version identical to the K, but it does require precise focus - as I found out to my detriment, while it weighed heavy! Beautiful piece of hardware, though. And with the switch on manual, you don't need the green button.
Still don't use it too often. The 2/85mm is nicely portable...

You need to speciffy what you're looking for: B&W, colour negative, slide.
In all cases, options are again increasing. Not cheap, but dependable

I like it how he enjoyed showing the 12 images per second !
Sounds like a very nice camera. My lenses are better suited to FF but I'm still tempted.

And it seems to come with the lens hood which is expensive! I know, I got mine without it. Opted for a cheap third-party version which works just as well of course. I've shot many photos with it - but I still have to develop them... Used to send them away in the UK, but now that I live in the Netherlands, I don't want to send film across borders. By all means, it looks like an attractive lens

And it will be announced to the tunes of “That's the way I Like It" by KC and the Sunshine Band

I'm not quite sure you're right. I have a mega-scanner, 1,5 meter long (in fact I own two of them), which produce results far beyond the Epsons. Software is a nightmare though, and it runs on a 1999 Mac. I am fortunate enough to also have 7 spare bulbs (no longer produced, original cost somewhere about $300 a piece). But this Screen Cezanne takes up a room and requires two strong people to move!

Within a Large Format forum, it was suggested that a long-term solution to replace these great but now gradually obsolete scanners would be to use a digital camera and stitching (if you want better results than the Epsons can give). My scanners can produce about 35Mb for 35mm, 100Mb for 6x6 (higher does not yield more detail). This is not directly comparable, though, to digital, it's a different kind of image, but it is good quality. I myself still need to find a solution for profiles and dust (in this regard the Epson is far more user-friendly), I've not given it enough time because of my work. I briefly owned an Epson which was no comparison in quality however. With the current scanners available, a camera can offer higher quality scans. In other words, a real solution.

In the past, cameras were also used to copy slides - it's not that odd.

Because the even numbers will perhaps go up: K-2, K-4, K-6...
And then there is C-1 (which I had expected for the centennial) or any other letter, like P for Pentaprism

If I cannot find anything locally, Asahi Photo is my fall back option, thanks. And they do know what they're doing. I'd use the opportunity for a general service.

I lost one camera and one tele-converter to the Royal Mail. The camera landed in the wrong continent and was subsequently lost. The converter was never found but never made it out of the UK as far as we could see (destination was Spain). Both were insured, but it's still a pain.

I guess it needs a TLC. Problem is that I've moved from the UK to the Netherlands - I knew someone specialised in Pentax over there, but not over here.
There are some people who do things like Rolleiflex - also mechanical, but very different. Anyone in the Netherlands (or Belgium) I could try?

---------- Post added 08-20-2020 at 04:46 PM ----------

I found these addresses:

- Reageren
- Inkoop. verkoop en reparatie vintage camera's | Cameraherstelpunt.nl

Both happen to be near where I live, but the first gives an error message on the listed email address, so it may be out of business.

For Rolleis, other addresses apply as well, but I'm not sure that makes sense in this case. I have had good results with De Kamera, and also heard good reports about Van Manen.

---------- Post added 08-20-2020 at 04:48 PM ----------

And I would not be surprised if these guys also do repair, but they do not mention it:
