Update for the Pentax-Sony E LA-KE1 adapter

I have K&F adapter with aperture ring. The build quality is pretty fine, no wobbling. It stops down in full stop, and with DA*55 stops down till f11 (it has one more stop, but it does not change the aperture). To stop down the ring rotates anticlockwise, and it takes some time to get used. The stop at least in mine copy is short and very soft, so it is easy to change a few stops instead of just one. That’s quite annoying, but it works.

I have got a quick replay from manufacturer:
"... This situation is caused by the differences in Pentax lenses between models and batches. Although we have made our best efforts to avoid this situation during the design and production, we found that most of the lenses are fine with the same FA43 f1.9 lens, but yours is not.

The specific reason is that the iris lever of your lens is slightly longer than others, which affects the normal operation of the iris motor in the adapter, so you will hear the sound but the iris cannot move.

I found two pictures from the Internet for your reference. The part inside the red mark is too long and caused the problem. The easiest way is to polish it shorter, which usually solves the problem. But not all people are willing to operate on their precious lens.

If you have a better way, please share it with us. If you are unwilling to operate on the lens, we understand it very well. In this case, we recommend that you use wide open when using this lens
.."

I decided to keep an adapter. With FA 31mm and FA 77mm while AF is not the fastest, when it locks seems to be pretty accurate. I would like them to develop the product hoping for compatability with DA*55 :).

Indeed, DRO bracketing was on - I was not even aware such thing exists at all :o Thanks, one issue solved :D

My old F 70 - 210 f4,0-5,6 starts to AF, but cannot lock, so formally it is not working.

I will write directly to manufacturer. My FA 43mm is old one, Ser. No. 0008427, so maybe there were some changes. I will update my post, and thanks again for the replays.

Hi,
I have got mine a fewdays ago, and thought to share first impressions. I use it with A7II (v4.0). I would split the performance into two parts - autofocus and stopping down the aperture. So autofocus works with DA 35mm Ltd, FA 31mm, FA 43mm and FA77mm, and from my initial experience FA31mm being the best, and FA 43mm the worst. However, it cannot stop down aperture with FA 43 at all - it is possible to shoot only wide opened. FA 31 and FA77 works, with some delay - you press the shutter, it stops down, thinks a moment, and takes the picture. What is interesting - camera always saves three copies of one shot, all with slightly different (about 1/3) exposure. DA 35Ltd is a mixed bag - autofocus works pretty well, but sometimes it stops down, sometimes doesn't. DA*55 is not supported and cannot autofocus. I contacted the seller concerning FA 43mm issue, and got a replay:
"Dear customer:
This same problem is happened on the other FA43mm lens .Some of the 43 one can work ,but some cannot. It is the Individual differences of lens. We have send this problem to manufactureand they told us that they will try to solve this problem with the nextfirmware update. So it is not your own problem...." According to @dgcom post his FA 43mm was working, maybe that is also a camera issue?

So now I am thinking, should I keep it and use with FA 31/77 combo and wait for a new FW update, orjust send it back. What are others’ experiences?

Pentax K-x (and K-m) was just 0,1mm wider, but 1.1mm shorter and 2.3mm thinner.

Loved mine K-x, and even replaced it's shutter after few years of use... (for that price could buy another used camera :)).

For me it's DA*50 - 135mm... Maybe because of its size, or slightly inconsistent AF. I use mainly FA 77 instead, and I feel it can do everything and even more than DA*50 - 135. SDM died, converted to screwdrive, but now it collects dust - I guess I am just too lazy to sell it. Optically it is a good lens, but I do not like it.

Indeed, as Sandy states, that is the volume deformation, correctable with DXO ViewPoint (see the tutorial).
