Recommended lenses for astro and planetary photography

True. That came in December:

Astro Tracer Type3 is a mode that realizes an Astro Tracer without using GPS or electronic compass information. It is said that astronomical tracking will be performed from the movement of stars in the preliminary shooting performed before shooting, so there is no need to wait for GPS positioning or precision calibration, and it is possible to shoot even in places affected by magnetism. It is recommended to use O-GPS1 for starscape photography using a wide-angle lens.

Do you do any astrophotography? I'd be curious to see how this performed.

It will do astro type 3 without GPS, however.

Exactly! In the US, "Ground" is a substitute for "1st" - thus, 2nd floor up from Ground [1st]. Other places, it's "ground," then 1st floor [up from Ground].

Has to do with the US numbering the 1st floor as "1," second as "2" and so forth. In other countries, they may call the 1st floor "ground," for instance.

Fantastic post. I will definitely shy away from the wax-coated jackets for photography purposes.

If you value your life or your reason or your camera gear, stay away from the moor (with apologies to ACD).

Dartmoor. I'm sure you're tired of hearing it, but the first "horror / mystery" book I ever read featured areas there.

In this line, I approached a friend of mine whose company both makes and purchases "stock" clothing for public servants (police, fire, etc.) and customizes them, depending on need. He recommended checking out the following suppliers, all of whom offer many-pocketed jackets which are water resistant (similar to the M65 jacket):

https://vertx.com/
Tactical Gear & Apparel | Propper: Right to the Core
TRU-SPEC : Tactically Inspired Apparel

I tend to listen to you UK folks, who seem to be underwater (and surrounded by same) a fair amount. I'm leaning towards a lighter rain jacket with pockets, and layers when necessary, or perhaps a tactical vest.

Examples:

From what I know of Carhartt, that's a good recommendation.

Excellent. I'll look into them. I see some excellent coats there - I'm just hoping for 4-6 good pockets. :)

All,

I've been investigating various Orvis coats (waxed / oilied cotton of some sort) and other makers for good spring / fall photography jackets. I'm looking for weatherproof and warm, with a decent number of pockets. Within my budget (say, less than $500), what recommendations might y'all have?

I purchased an Asus ROG G10CE gaming desktop from Sam's Club. I do not game much, but I got it because the graphics card will fully support Lightroom and Photoshop.

Specs:

Intel Core i5-11400F
16GB DDR4 RAM
512GB PCIe SSD
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti 6GB

I added an external 2TB hard drive (Dropbox sync storage - all photos) and another external 512GB SSD (general image storage).

The only thing I might do is replace the rear internal fan, which is quite buzzy.

I tend to wait on brand new OS thingies before I install them - like...a year. I figure there will always be concerns, updates, oddities, and that also gives time for things like my taskbar control software (7+ Taskbar Tweaker) to catch up.

A guy walks into his house after work, nobody is home, and there's a note from his wife on the fridge that says, "This isn't working anymore. I'm sorry."

He opens the fridge, everything's cold, and mutters "liar."

I've been reading the Daevabad trilogy by SA Chakraborty. I've found it to be a lovely blend of fantasy and historic elements. I'm midway through Kingdom of Copper and working toward book 3, Empire of Gold.

I got this when I won a bulk auction. Any ideas what it is? It has a focuser and a small mount, and it's metal and heavy for its size, but has no identifying marks.
