What Is Your Best Lens?

My best lenses are the K28/3.5, K35/3.5 and Voigtländers 40/2.0 and 58/1.4 and 90/2.5.
The K28 is the most versatile, the VL58 gives the most pleasing pictures.

Out of my current collection it would be my K28/3.5. Slightly wide angle and very sharp.
If I could chose the FA31 or maybe (want to see a test first) the DA20-40.

Of all the m-lenses I've had, I did not like the 35 and 40 mm.
Not really sharp and no vivid colors.
I do like my K35/3.5 and Vl40/2.0 though !

FA 35mm f/2 AL for studio work?

For studio work I would use my K35/3.5 and K28/3.5 if it had to be 35mm and 28mm.
Not the FA35 because of the CF and not the FA28 because the K28/3.5 is much sharper.
Yes I own the K35 and K28 and did own the FA35 and FA28.
Moved from FA-lenses to K-series and Voigtlanders and never looked back.
Although the FA35/2.0 is a good lens in many aspects I would go for the cheaper DAL35/2.4 if you opt for AF.

LBA kicked in - FA43 ltd or Voigtlander ultron 40mm

I like the VL very much. I traded it for the FA35 and had never regret. I love metal, I love MF, I hate plastic.
On top of that 35mm seemed always to wide or to tight for me. I prefer the 28mm and 40mm combo.
The main difference might be the bokeh. Most people love the boke of the FA43. I do too. But I like the bokeh of the VL also.
It's a matter of taste I guess.
About the collectability: the VL is rarer and built extremely well. It will hold its value better I suppose.
From what I have seen: FA43 for pictures of people and animals (pop-up-quallity) , VL for landscapes and close ups.

Opinions wanted: DA 21mm as walaround main prime

Normally I prefer my 28/3.5 as a walkaround but on a cruise I would take a 20mm or 21mm.
Add a 40mm or 43mm and you have a very small and good combo. On a ship the 28mm is too tight indeed I think.

Help Me Consider Some Portrait Lenses

For potrait MF is the only way to nail focus exactly in my opinion,
so that would favor the Zeiss 50mm over the rest.
Or the Voigtländer 58mm.......
Depth of field preview might help focusing at say F2,8 by the way.

Digital shooting and PP.
To be able to check if the focus is right on the lcd and Lightroom instead of darkroom for me.
With MF and AF to many pics were out of focus.
I was never good in the lab at home nor were the consumer level labs in my opinion.
Now the photo is sharp and I can brighten up darker portions later on.
Third improvement is the now affortable good K and m lenses for me.

The only reason for upgrading my current body would be
if Pentax came with a brighter viewfinder with standard
good screen for MF. I'd love that.
AF and I became never friends.

Lots of good K and m lenses for reasonable prices available on the market.
Good value depends on what you payed for it and how badly you whanted the lens.
My best value lens is my m85/2.0. I payed only 60 euro's and like the results very much.
Can't complain about my K55/2.0 for 25 euro incl. body either.

I had the m-version of the 50/1.4. Loved the colors, hated the fact I was missing the focus most of the time.
Must have something to do with low contrast wide open. Stopping down a bit while focusing might help.
If it doesn't work: Don't bother, you allready have one of the best 50mm lenses.

Lens Efficiency - Pentax vs. Zeiss

So with the CZ on your camera your body computes shorter shutterspeeds
and hence delivers darker pictures ? Seems only logiacal to me.
When using the same shutterspeed and F4 on both, wat happens then ?

I even didn't go for the 18-55 for my K200d.
At first I used some old m lenses with the K200d
and bought the DA16-45 later.
Don't think of the 18-135 as a better alternative either.

Its all a matter of taste. There is no good or bad bokeh.
I think you're girlfriend is beautifull and the bokeh of your
lens in this picture at least distracting, mirror-lens-like even.

When used to 18-55 and 50-200 and 18-250 a better zoom like
DA16-45, DA12-24 or DA17-70 may aswell be more than good enough
for landscapes. You also keep your sensor cleaner.
My DA16-45 is more than capable for landscapes, but I just love using primes.
The difference in IQ is at F5,6 or F8 and landscape-distances not realy an issue.
It must be my age I guess.........
