We have in Cornwall the Knockers who are a sort of pixie that spend their time mining. If you are underground and the drills stop, in the silence you can here the Knockers in the distance.

Lens cleaning; Internal surfaces

Why on earth are you cleaning the internal lens surfaces? The small amount of dust that gathers inside lenses has no optical effect at all. Even if you specialise in photographing sandstorms in the desert it should not be problem.

My advice would be to stop looking at the internal surfaces and go out and take some pictures.

Slide film disaster - the lab developed it negative!!!

In the UK, Labs take business on on the basis that their liability is limited to the costs of the materials - so here the most you would get would be a new roll of film. Not all Labs can do reversal processing (it is now rather rare, to be honest) - did you check they could first. The lab I use for colour only do C41 processing so E6 film would be cross processed - they are open about it but you need to check first.

The High ISO Scam?

A lot of the specs they sell cameras on are worthless to most photographer in practise. I have never used my camera's highest ISO setting, nor am I likely to. Same with frames per second - my fastest is about one frame per ten minutes and I don't care what the camera is capable of. Video - shall never use it.

35mm film processing & scanning in the UK?

I normally use Snappy Snaps in Lincoln - it is staffed by film enthusiasts and they do a good job. However, Snappy Snaps is a franchise and other branches won't necessarily be as good. When I have wanted non-C41 processing done I used Palm Labs in Birmingham. They are happy to phone you to discuss what developing you want if they think it is required and they are not too expensive.

If you strip the existing leatherette off carefully you can use it as a template for the new skin.

We have hissy fits as well. Locally, the phrase is being mardy and in Cornwall where I was bought up it is being maisy.

In English usage, 'pissed' means inebriated and 'pissed off' means annoyed.

If you want ooc jpgs, why shoot in RAW? The whole point of RAW is that it is not the same.

Are the extra dollars worth the upgrade to the full frame sensor?

I have no idea what pq is, but mf is not an upgrade from APS-C, it is a totally different fish. With my Bronica ETRs I lose autoexposure, any sort of meter, auto-focus, carry ability.

I regularly use medium format, 35mm film (aka FF) and APS-C cameras and I don't worry about any of this at all. I am far too busy producing brilliant photographs.

Any lens with any sensor (or film) will let in the same amount of light for a given f/stop. That means that the exposure time (shutter speed) will be the same.

I store most of mine on their side. If you have caps on both ends of the lens, it really shouldn't matter.

I once worked with a Thai woman who complained we had too many words. The example she gave me was how to greet someone. She maintained that in Thai there is only one greeting but in English we have: hello, hi, good morning, wotcher, good day - and many more. It seemed to her that every time she met an English person they used another greeting which she didn't understand.

Spelling doesn't just mimic pronunciation, sometimes it represents what the writer knew to be the case. With 'Alnwick' the people who established the spelling knew the place was a wick even if no one actually pronounced the 'w' so the 'w' had to be there. Same with the 'l' as they knew the wick was on the banks of the river Aln.

I'm with you on that. I think some people think the wrong pronunciation sounds 'proper' or that the correct pronunciation sounds slovenly.

---------- Post added 02-22-16 at 04:44 PM ----------

they are merely being archaic. In Chaucer's day, the word was 'aks' and people used to cringe when uneducated people moved the 's' sound to the front of the 'k' sound.
