Have any lenses gone down in price since the K-1?

I've noticed that higher end crop sensor designed lenses, such as the DA* lenses, are generally acquirable at quite reasonable prices in the used market of late.

I'm not sure if that's down to users moving to FF or the SDM issues... or something else entirely.

Technically Samsung? They sold a rebadged Pentax DSLR for a hot second. I don't know that there was any actual engineering on their part though beyond gluing a new logo on.

The old warp mill in the afternoon light. This is an HDR merge, hopefully not too fake-looking.

Do you need the extra stop vs. the 35 limited? I'd buy that vs. either of the other two.

Disappointing lenses with good reputations

Optically I have never really been disappointed; you seem to get what you pay for.

I do really wish that the FA prime lenses (35 f/2 and 50 f/1.4) were nicer in the hand. The optics are nice, but I'd prefer handling even a kit lens to these. The focus ring is a really unpleasant rubber and the manual aperture control feels like it's going to break off in my hand. Again these are cheaper lenses so you get what you get, but considering their optical quality it seems a shame.

Also, to be perfectly petty, I just find them to be ugly lenses.

How to change ISO

At least on the K50, it will show the ISO change in the viewfinder. Unfortunately, it also turns the screen on, which is distracting.

On my K50 you can just press up and then use the forward jog dial to change it. It does turn the screen on, though, which can be a bit distracting.

Not sure if this works on the K-S2, however, as I don't own that model.

Overview of all historical Pentax PK and M42 lens makers/brands

That's quite a list!

Just to single out one.. I know Kamero is a store brand but does anyone know which store? I have an old, supremely heavy zoom from Kamero in my collection from the m42 era.

FA 50 1.4 issue, repair or replace?

So, my FA 50mm 1.4 no longer focuses to infinity. After about 8 feet on the gauge it binds up. Really unsure how this happened. I've never had a lens repaired before, but it looks like KEH would be $180 plus shipping.

This is a lot more cash than buying a new DA 50mm 1.8. Is that enough of a step down in quality that I should consider repair for the old lens?

Alternatively, would anyone have a suggestion on fixing the lens?

Tamron 90 2.8 : non-DI?

I've been shopping for a new toy, and I saw this one at KEH:

Tamron 90

Now obviously this is the older non-DI lens, and it's hard to get a feel for this one online since googling brings nothing but DI reviews. Thoughts on the older version? Worth getting/built well? I have wanted a macro lens for a long time.

AF lens build quality?

Nothing really compares to Takumar construction, in my mind. That said, the FA 50 1.4 does have a metal interior barrel and seems well made, even if the outside plastic does not feel great. If you want all-metal build quality you could always go for the more expensive Limited lenses.

I just have one adaptor and several lenses. The adaptor locks onto the mounting ring and does not remove when you unscrew the lens, so switching from one M42 to another is easy. Switching to a K mount from M42, not so much. Because they detach separately it doesn't make much sense to have one adaptor for each lens... you will just make more work for yourself.

Make sure to get the official adaptor btw... I got mine from Adorama. You don't want to get some third party adaptor stuck on the camera, that would be a bad day.

I generally use a Super Takumar 55 2.0 (cheap lens, very nice colors for some reason) and a SMC Takumar 28 3.5 (startlingly sharp, somewhat more difficult to get a perfect exposure). I have a 135 3.5 but it's a PITA to use.

K100D super available in Portland Maine

Photo Market are good people, but why did they decide to stock a bunch of K100Ds when the 200D is out? Seems weird.

My experience with that store is that they are mainly Nikon people, but they are friendly and have a lot of interesting things in stock. Definitely the best shop in the Portland area. (although I bought my K100D at Hunt's because at the time of release they were the only ones to have it)

Welcome to Photozone! has good first and third party reviews... not a TON for Pentax, but you can look at the same lenses on Canon or Nikon mount and get a sense.

It's unfortunate but thankfully you can still get the 16-45 (at pretty good prices) as well as several good third-party zooms. I think it's foolish of Pentax to release an essentially consumer-grade lens without the body-driven focus when they don't even know how well/quickly the K200D will sell.

I just ordered one of these so I'm really glad to see these comments. My main deciding factor was the reputation, plus the fact that the lens has really come down in price.
