Super images 2old4toys. The variable nd with ir is a valuable find. Not sure I could stand to perform surgery on a Q. Almost like operating on the family dog.

"Neuron Dance"

Owned the Olympus 20mm macro for years. Never managed anything decent out of it. Very difficult to shoot. Decided to mount it to Pentax bellows and K-1. Aimed bellows straight up and set microscope slide on front standard. The K-1's LV and flippy screen made this much easier. Pentax K-1, Pentax bellows, and Olympus OM 20mm f2 extreme macro lens. Approx. 13.7X. Cross posted from macro group.

Pentax Q-7 Mode dial issues?

Have you tried turning the mode dial around and around numerous times at a decent speed (with camera off). It's possible that the dial's connections are dirty and aren't making good contact. Turning the mode dial rapidly for several seconds could clean away the residue and allow the camera to function normally.
Good luck,

May not be the intended subject, but still a great shot. The plan worked it's the subject that failed to cooperate. Think the cat knew you were having difficulties and decided to stand in as a stunt double.

Agree the image is perfect. Never considered the question if there can be too many perfect elements in a single image. Understand dlh's point. Don't know if I agree or not. Usually a picture with many points of interest fails because some parts are weaker and bring the whole image down. That isn't the case here. Have to ponder this longer.

Great image biz-engineer.

Great story. Nice to hear people that are happy with their equipment and life. Do you use all 3 of the K-1 on the same shoot? If so, that's a lot to carry.

I use this method, with the Q to id adapted lenses. Very handy.
The K-1 needs at least all whole numbers.

A favorite summer place. For overhead of swimmers, I held a 15 ft pole off the catwalk with the Pentax Q and 03 lens attached. Camera was shooting on interval.

Not sure how to solve any of the points geo444 mentions above. But I wonder if mounting the microscope cover glass parallel to the sensor would be any more difficult than shaving the mount to be perfectly parallel? Guessing the glass might be less critical based on the Sony SLT with pellicle mirror (45 degree angle). I would have to purchase another Q for these mods. Not happening soon since I just bought a Pentax K-1.
thanks,

Neat photo! Love the ir look. Fascinating that piece of flat glass affects infinity focusing so much.

Have a possible idea on glass replacement. Was playing around shooting some prepared microscope slides last night. Could the ultra thin cover glass work well as a filter replacement for the Q? They are small, very thin, and optically as perfect as possible. they should be relatively inexpensive.

Thanks,
barondla

Thanks for the enlargement estimates. Need to study the Kenko closer to see what can be trimmed out for a bigger opening. The Kenko's electrical contacts make construction more complex.
Thanks,
