Mefoto monopod

MeFoto is made by Benro. I have their RoadTrip tripod. It can be converted to a monopod simply by removing one of it's legs, the center column, and the ball head. A nice feature but I don't use it that way much. I like the tripod as it's compact, solid, easy to setup, and has a nice case w/shoulder strap. As a monopod it's lightweight, easy to adjust and solid if you don't extend the last section. For a monopod I use a Primos(hunting/rifle) monopod called a "Trigger Stick". I unscrew the "v" rest from the head and put the ballhead(uses Arca Swiss style quick release plates) from my RoadTrip on it. Same threads. Very quick height adjustment. Mades a nice walking/hiking staff IF you don't depend on it to support your body weight.

Vanguard 263AB-100 or Me Foto Roadtrip Tripod

I've had the Roadtrip for a little over a year. It's stable, lite, compact, quick to setup. Sometimes I bungee it to my backpack. The ballhead is good and I use it on my Primos Trigger Stick when I need a mono pod. The padded case is very nice. I would buy it again. The Sirui T-025X for a little more money is lighter, a little more compact, and gets very good reviews as well.

Looking for Camera Backpack for bicycle riding

Another vote for the Click Elite Compact. I have the lighter colored one. Perfect for cycling. I have a 70oz. water reservoir in it. It's not too big to weigh you down or affect your balance while riding. It has a built in rain cover for piece of mind on questionable days. It's secure, lightweight, has good ventilation for your back, and is very well made. I've had mine for a little over a year.

Sling strap questions

On my FS Slim I carry my K30 with 18-135, 55-300, or my 400 f/5.6. On the 400 I move the Arca mount from the camera to the lens mount. Stays put. doesn't swing around, even riding a bike(rode the tram route 15mi at Shark Valley Visitors Center, Everglades X 2). No problems. Just think that the FS Pro, with a wider strap may be a little more comfortable. Not that the FS Slim wasn't, I'm just pretty tolerable carrying heavier things(31 years of fighting fires and wearing scba's will do that to you). And I need another folding mount to leave attached to my 400 and my K30.

I've had mine for a year and love it. Make sure you get the one with the folding connector for the strap so when you sit the camera down it folds so the camera sits flat. This strap is especially useful if you have a tripod head that uses a Swiss Arca plate. Some of the ventilation holes on the strap have elongated a little and a small amount of neoprene around these holes has peeled away. I was a little worried about the integrity of the strap but after 6 months from when I noticed it it hasn't gotten any worse. The nylon backing also gives it strength. As far as ease of adjustment goes, it's as advertised. Easy, quick. The strap doesn't slip on your shoulder. I wear it while riding my bike and it sits comfortably at the back side of my hip, being quick and easy to bring up for a shot. If you have a large heavy lens, like a 400mm, it might be a good idea to get the wider strap to spread the weight a little better on your shoulder. I don't represent them or have any interest in their company other than being a satisfied owner of one of their products.

Have you looked at the Mefoto Roadtrip? It has a little longer folded length, it's aluminum. It has separate tension and lock knobs for the ball, can be converted to a monopod, reversible center column for low shots, supports 17.6lbs., and has a very nice padded zippered case with a good adjustable shoulder strap. I've had mine for a year. The more I use it the more I like it. I've recently acquired a vintage 400mm 5.6 and it stabilizes that lens just fine(I use either the Pentax remote or the 2 sec. delay). I also have the Mefoto Backpacker(was free for me as I won it) and it stays in my bike bag. I use it's case to keep my vintage 400mm Pentax in. The case is that nice. I looked at the Sirui as well and almost bought one but for me the Roadtrip fit the bill.

Joby...Ultra Fit Sling Strap

I second that. I have a Carry Speed and an Op/Tech. The CS is most comfortable for hands free, walking around, camera doesn't swing around and the swiss plate stays put. The Op/Tech is comfortable as well but the camera does swing around while walking. I also have the Op/Tech wrist strap and usually keep it connected for the security when I disconnect the CS while keeping the sling strap across my shoulder. I also like the way you can cinch up the strap with one hand for a little tighter fit but easily, automatically extends while bringing the camera up for a shot. The only problem I've had with it is some of the neoprene has peeled around the vent holes in the padded strap. Other than that, it's been great and I would buy again. I do have the model with the folding base which makes it lay flat on it's bottom when set down and a little more convenient to pack in a bag.

HD DA 55-300 WR Lens Review In Progress...

I for one am anxious to see the results. I've been considering the 55-300WR since most of my shooting is outdoors. A wet forcast finds me leaving my non-WR 55-300 at home and my 18-135WR coming with me. But,,,, the better reputation of the 60-250 for image quality and MUCH quieter and more acurate (I hope) focusing has me wanting to wait and get the *lens (at 3 times the cost, but better for the long run).

In the dark, if the brightness is hurting your night vision, and it will, or if you think the display is helping to drain your battery, why not just reduce the brightness in the menu settings? it will remain dim until you change it again in the settings.

Minor Roadmap Update- TC is now HD

Never made sense to me to list WR as a major feature on Pentax cameras(WR was a major feature, among other things, in my decision of camera brand as no other DSLR at this price point had this) without a full lineup of DA WR lenses without having to spend the extra for DA* lenses. I know they're worth the extra cash, for some folks, but for enthusiasts who enjoy outdoor/nature photography, on a limited budget, and want a few good lenses without the worry of precipitation the selection was kinda limited. Glad to see the 55-300 is now WR and I'll likely buy a copy and sell my non-wr 55-300. Engineering wise, I don't see it as a big deal to add this feature to most of their lenses, for minimal cost to them. I'm wishing for the tc to be WR and couple it with the 55-300 WR, hopefully to be compatible. For my use it would make perfect sense to have a WR tc used with a WR lens that for my thinking is mainly an outdoor weather exposed tc.

Don't know about the Pentax scopes, but I can't imagine them being any less quality than their camera lenses. I've had a pair of Pentax compact binos for 20+ years. My wife and I still use them. More recently I've purchased a pair of Vortex binos. These have a lifetime warranty. If they ever break or malfunction, ever, Vortex will repair or replace them, even if you're not the original owner(no warranty card or registration needed)! Their riflescopes are pretty nice as well, with the same warranty. On my 50cal muzzleloader I have a Nikon Monark 2.5 X 7 I bought used for $150. It's very bright and sharp. I'm very happy with it. If I was buying one now I'd be looking into the Vortex. New or used their warranty is tops.
