For around the price new of either of those you could find a PENTAX HD D FA* 70-200mm f/2.8 ED DC AW, which I find to be a stellar lens. I posted an ad for one like new for around $975.00 the other day and see some today between a $1200 - $1500 range currently.

Pentax Digital full frame camera

Several years ago when Olympus abandoned us dslr users for mirrorless I like many others I abandoned Oly. Now if you like mirrorless and using EVF then you may prefer opting to go with the A7 but if you like dslr then I've been really happy with all of the Ricoh/Pentax ones I have used. Others may mention going apsc and I certainly maintain owning a k3ll but it is getting less and less used. I resisted going full frame mainly because I had a lot of apsc glass but then I had a few full frame also so I finally bought a full frame K1ll. I found what I have searched for in a camera with it. I love full frame!

Others may disagree but I find instead of breaking out another camera to use the apsc glass I have left I find it easier just to slap that glass on my K1ll and use the 16mp crop mode. I used a 16mp apsc for years prior to buying the 24mp k3ll and I don't enlarge to huge prints and to be honest I always preferred the 16mp images my K5 lls produced over my k3ll so I have that and then some using my crop on the K1 ll. There are a few thing one does give up in speed but for my use it doesn't matter.

Workaround 4GB/25' video limit?

That is what I am talking about not doing, not the 25 min limitation. If one wants their sd cards to function properly then using Windows formatter is exactly what one doesn't want to do on a card meant to be used in a camera. Hence my suggesting using the software developed by the SD Card Association if one needs to format using a computer.

Outside of formatting with your camera I wouldn't suggest using anything else except a program called SD Formatter on a computer. It leaves the protected partition needed for camera use intact.

That confounded Ricoh pin...

There are a few different pin types for the Ricoh lens. The main culprit is the pin that is flat on top, the rounded pin style usually retracts easily. I used to know which had what pin but can't recall off the top of my head. I never took the pins out of my lens because I have several Ricoh film cameras, which for their time were a great camera with features for price not found in other brands. Sears was one of the companies that Ricoh made cameras and lenses for.

This is the complete listing of the Ricoh line can be found here.....

My K3ll with battery is 28.2 oz and my K1 Mkll with battery with battery is 32.6 oz. Personally I really don't find 4 oz to be that much difference to carry. The bigger size fits my hands better, so in comparison I didn't consider the weight and size to be a non purchase factor.

However if one is planning on purchasing some of the newer D-fa full frame lenses then yes be prepared to heft some weight on some of them.

I fought off jumping into the K1 full frame camera when they came out in 2016 telling myself I didn't need it and was completely happy with my K5 lls & K3ll apsc's, which I was..... kinda... At my age the one thing I truly missed coming from my old system years ago was an articulating screen. My satisfaction with my apsc models wasn't enough to make me want to jump into buying newer apsc models just for that. 6 months ago I figured I had enough full frame lenses I was using on my apsc's so my thinking started to change and a deal came along on a new k1 mkll I couldn't refuse so I bit the bullet. From the very first photo shot I knew I had found what I was looking for in a dslr for years. I've sold my K5lls, most of my apsc glass and for now am keeping my seldom used k3ll. Is it different jumping from apsc to full frame...yes, one does have to think a little different and there are times and circumstance I will switch back to using my apsc but for me it's not very often now.......

Everyone has their own reasoning, wants, likes and needs. All I can relay is what my lines of thinking was and say in essence is go with your gut and use your reasoning to justify whether to purchase it or not.

Now I am going to take you on a different track. exposure is exposure... Your cameras in camera exposure meter lies to you.. So I suggest you take control of your camera and it's settings for the lighting in your environment ....

Software correction can only do so much, so how does one improve ones lighting to capture more detail..... Simple, flash or strobe lighting.....How does one improve and extend ones flash or lighting a greater distance..... A fresnel flash extender...... Master how to use that and you may find better results and easier post processing.

PEF vs. DNG - Is there any loss of data having the camera save in DNG RAW?

If you truly want to be up on what DNG does with raw format then read this ......

Fallacy....Pixel shifted images saves to disk in either in camera format.

The problem is with some processing software not processing pixel shifted images correctly facilitating the need to use only certain software at present for those images.

PEF vs. DNG - Is there any loss of data having the camera save in DNG RAW?

Two things wrong with this; Lol

A. It's from DP review
B. It's from 2008

A lot has changed in the last 12 years with in camera raw conversion to dng. Heck back then if you used the cameras raw format and went outside of the camera mfg. raw conversion software there was some data conversion loss. Today Adobe DNG is pretty much the industry standard and with the advancements in raw conversion software I doubt any difference would be that noticeable. This is why most camera mfg's now include the option to use dng.

Besides it was a pain shooting camera raw, converting it, then having to deal with the sidecar xmp files. Not that you still can't have Adobe include them if using Lightroom or Photoshop.

Messed-up SD Card and Can I turn off Focal Length Request?

Trashing an SD card more often then not isn't really necessary. Usually doing a low level format can solve most errors with SD cards and render them back to excellent working conditions. A low level format not only erases data but also marks any bad sectors on the disk so files cannot be written to them. The SD Association has a specific software for use that wont erase the partitions cameras use so it is safe to format using this software on a computer. The software contains both a quick and low level format so read the manual on how to do a low level one.....

Pentax K-1 Mark ii user, feeling frustrated about being stuck with only the kit lens

The beauty of the Pentax camera is ALL of their lenses will work on the K1... One is not strapped to purchasing the latest "new" expensive lens. There are a host of really good older full frame lenses available in really good condition that are made for the K mount made by various manufactures if one choices to seek them out. I have sold most of my apsc and have kept a few select ones to use on my K1 mkll as well as my K3 ll. So a ton of fun can be had for those of us on a budget....Though I recently went into payment debt for one I couldn't pass up the... Pentax HD PENTAX D FA* 70-200mm f/2.8 ED DC AW Lens.

Prime or (better) Zoom - Wide Angle for K-70

Zooms have worked well for me over the years. I do use a few primes I couldn't live without but for my wide angle I prefer using a zoom. I have owned the Sigma 10-20mm DC for several years now and have been very satisfied with it for my apsc cameras and I also have a few Sigma & Tamron Zooms for my K1 mkll. For my taste I am not a big fan of fish eye effects, I get that enough with my GoPro wide angle. All mentioned are very good for what you are seeking. I seem to have acquired more Sigma zooms more than Pentax mainly due to budget restraints then anything and have been very satisfied with them for my needs.

Wonder if it possible the difference is one is the electric version which has contacts in the back that were used to communicate with the camera body to stop it down so it is slightly different without that.
