" now for something completely different ... "

while i have some passing interest in the competition, and own a variety of manufacturers, i will always have a soft spot for Pentax. Besides, i just bought some new ektar, and there's the ilford ortho to try out. New-to-me lens also showed up yesterday.

What I'm trying to say is, i'm not sure if you'll get rid of me that easily.

Ok, so keep in mind that the K1000 is a camera i've never actually used.

If you require the size of the K1000 (large hands, use with gloves, need to break down drawbridges), i would suggest taking a closer look at the KX. K2 if in good shape is also a consideration.

If you're looking for something a little more portable, i will endorse your desire for an MX. It's a beautiful little camera, and you can use the current lenses you have now. Pair it with some M-class lenses, (or what is it, the DA-40mm?) and you'll have a (slightly) more modern camera, with all the features of the K1000 and then some, in a more portable package.

I like my Olympus, but... the MX has most of what I was looking for in that. No A mode though, you'd need to look at some of the other Pentax models for that. In my personal world, i'm pretty sure the MX is going to be my go-to SLR moving forward. Well, until I can get my 6x7 MLU ;)

Only my 5 cents worth of course.

If you like the K1000, you'll like the KX. Spotmatics are similar in form, but with the M42 mount. All probably could be used as zombie survival tools...

I should really fix my OM2n, it is a nice little package, with a good viewfinder and good optics. My solution to fixing it was to get the MX, which in my mind is the combination of the OM series and my Spotmatic.

There are some nice pieces found in the other families, but re-using the lenses you own is a good value add.

I do find that all these cameras (pentax and other brands) all have their own little quirks. OM with the shutter speed location, KX with the light meter activation, Nikon with the being overpriced, etc. Only way to see what fits your use best is to actually use the camera. That's been my experience - the numbers on paper are all interesting, and hearing other peoples thoughts are very useful, but until you actually pick up the camera, it's all theoretical.

I try to leave feedback, but... i'm very lazy. I should go back and leave some for some of my purchases, thank you for the reminder.

That being said, there are only so many "A+++++++++++++" reviews i can read through before I question the value of the system...

What got YOU into photography?

This is tough to answer. Probably my grandmother. She worked as a technical photographer for a number of years, so I believe she influenced my father (and her daughter, and her husband) to all pickup photography. My father was big into slides, so I have memories of the projector being dragged out, and revisiting trips in the living room. I miss that aspect of sharing photos.

Many moons ago, i was gifted my grandfather's old camera (there's some debate, my father claims that it was his...) which was the Spotmatic SPII that started this whole Pentax affair with me. I had had cheapy point and shoots before, but the move to SLR was a big step for me. My grandmother was the one that gave me that camera, and encouraged me to take pictures. Also provided my first critiques, which were very helpful.

Iso .. how high is too high for you?

My answer may be slightly more analog- a few years ago my answer would've been 200. I have stopped using fuji superia (it's no longer cheaper...), and now would be confident in going up to 400 (at least in portra). If i had full control of the sun (would be a neat party trick), i would only shoot at 100.

That being said, i am venturing into the iso800 world, and will see what sort of results I can get.

I've bought a couple things from goodwill, and while I've only bought a couple cheapy lenses, i'm not super impressed. Maybe priced accurately, but they could've also been tossed in the garbage. I'm keeping them for experimentation for now. eventually, they'll also get turfed. I would be very reluctant to shell out $50 for a PP or SA from them...

On the plus side, reasonably fast shipping, and well packed.

i have no personal experience (my film gets used up pretty quick), but my research leads me to believe that if anything you should be getting underexposed results. How expired are they? Is the light meter you're using out of calibration?

Can i ask what hood this is? I don't want to pay the $40 or so for the OEM hood... trying to find something a touch nicer than the $6 generic hoods...
