Pentax ist DL lens to be used for indoor speed photos

If improving AF is the only concern, the K-m will be a good choice as well. The size and weight is very close to the istDL.

Before putting money into a new lens/body, I would try to use a set of fully charged and good AA battery (ie: eneloop or energizer lithiums) to see if AF improves with the DL. From my own experience, I found the AF becomes sluggish especially in low light after a few hundred shots.

Pentax DA 12-24mm f4.0 Praise

I just bought the DA12-24 from the marketplace; now shopping around for a uv filter and saw this:

UV filters test - Introduction -

This is a test of 20 uv filter from different brands and grades and they test with 72mm in most cases except two; so that may be relevant to anyone looking for 77mm for the DA12-24.

Poll: Why did you buy a Pentax DSLR?

After using a few P&S and a "bridge" model; I know my next camera can only be a dslr. After trying the entry level models the big 2 and Sony were crossed off my list; I don't like the make quality/ergonomics/both.

Then comes to Pentax, even tho I have no legacy body/lens with the brand previously; the idea of using all kinds of old lens on a spanking new dslr is a very neat idea. I always think that photography is not all about the electronics; so I was pulled toward by the "unknown" world of old lens. Plus I thought the in-body SR will save me lots of money and headache in future lens selection.

Looking back after 1 year of getting the K200d, I could have spend just as much money in other brands but I won't have as much fun as with Pentax.

Free bump and some comments:

Payment was sent on Sunday nite and I got the DA 12-24 on Wednesday. The lens looks LIKE NEW with all documentation included, even the original receipt. The whole process went smoothly with no problem at all and I would love to trade with Joseph again.

Poll: Does the price hike of Pentax lenses affect your purchase plans (new body)?

My original plan the next lens will be the DA12-24 or DA15; scratch that now its the Sigma 10-20mm.

I'm glad that I bought the DA35 and DA40 before the April 1 price hike in Canada.

My list:

1. DA 12-24mm/ Sigma 10-20mm/ DA 15
2. One of the Korean brand 85mm f1.4
3. DFA 100mm macro

Hopefully I can get either one of the 3 wide angle lens by the end of the year; #2 and #3 I'm just being greedy :)

Since you have a film body already, how about the Tokina 19-35mm (aka "plastic fantastic")? I bought mine brand new for about $120US from fleabay.

Tamron 10-24mm coming to Pentax mount

This is certainly a good news for me, I am (just recently) get hooked into wide angle and is drooling over the DA 12-24 or DA15. One more choice is never a bad thing. I hope this new tamron will be a cheaper alternative.

Poll: If you weren't using Pentax, which DSLR brands would you consider?

My thoughts exactly on the Sony A200 and Canon Rebel, not so much for the Nikon D40 tho.

My first pick after Pentax will be a Fuji, the S5 pro to be specific, because this is the camera that get me hooked on colours and dynamic range that couldn't be done in a P&S. Ended up getting the K200d after tons of research.

Second choice after the Fuji will be the Nikon D80/D90.

Atfter play around with many demos I still can't get used to the control and ergonomics of Canon (Rebels to 40D/50D alike) and the Sony alphas. Oly has very tiny viewfinders so they are out of the question as well.

We're Getting Cheap WR Lenses! Yeehaa!

I think there’s probably a new entry-level WR body in the line as well. However this new WR body won’t go as cheap as a the street price of K200d any time soon. So the K200d + the 2 WR lens will be the king of cheap WR kit for some time. A sub $1000 WR kit is unthinkable in all other brands and Pentax should really cash in on that.

Ajuett has nailed my thoughts, why would Pentax has the K200d last year but no cheap WR lens; now we have the lens but they discontinued the body. A new entry-level WR body is no where in sight and likely it won’t be as cheap. IMHO the WR lens should come out at least a year earlier.

True that, K200d + 18-55 WR + 55-200 WR can be the cheapest WR kit. Using AA battery is a big plus too. I would predict the K200d will be a highly sought-after camera even tho is has been officially discontinued now.

Why I Love Pentax
Posted By Kei
Replies: 64
Views: 10,253
K200d user here, I choose Pentax because:

1) AA batteries. I can shoot as much as I want without worrying about power and no propietary battery;

2) Weather sealing even for an entry level body. This is unthinkable in any other brand;

3) In-camera SR. Tthe price of IS/VR lens in other brands are simply insane for a hobbyist on a budget;

4) Support old lens. I don't need it when I was deciding to buy Pentax, but this gives me the impression that Pentax is not likely to ditch an old lens mount leaving long time users high and dry;

5) Great colours. I just love how the picture turns out from the camera as-is, no need to PP. I would rather spend more time being out taking pics than sitting in front of the computer adjusting every single shot.

Bonus: prime lens (I LOVE my pancake lens!)
