Hi guys,
I noticed it's a way too long time since I was participating in this challenge. And then figured out that I didn't re-introduce myself here.

So, this new fancy 85mm DFA lens was available at my local shop (they actually had 2 copies on the shelf!); summer time office-wise gives more relaxations, so I decided to give this game another shot.

As the lens is a new one to the community, I will be using the explanation 'technical evaluation' when I'm struggling with the creative content. Ok?

That's my understanding that they default to wide open setting. That's why I asked about f2.8.

Hi all,
Thanks a lot for lots of pointers for further research. However, I'm still a bit confused, so I would like to reduce my question to a bit more concrete form:

Yesterday I bought the D FA 85mm lens. Is there a single film camera body which I could be shooting at f2.8 ?

Okey, thanks.

Well, who anyways buys 1.4 glass, only to stop it down?

LX doesn't do autofocus anyways. The lack of aperture control is what I'm mostly after now - does any Pentax film body allow changing of aperture with the new lenses?

I'm starting to understand the plea for a modern film body from Pentax. As there is new glass coming, but unusable.

Hi,
Probably common knowledge to many around here. However, I was just buying a new KAF4 lens on a whim. Since it was marked as "D FA", I was assuming it would work on the old K-mount film bodies just as my old 50mm D FA and 100mm D FA. Seems I was expecting too much, so the new one doesn't do much good with the LX.

So, my question is: is there a single Pentax film camera body, which could be used with these new lenses?

Should it, and the known information be added to our database?

I have been using the Sonnar on K1. If I were in your situation, I would choose Pentax own lineage - all the stuff with adapters, manual focus, manual metering ... Not worth the effort if not specifically looking for the look Sonnar provides.

I.e. if you need to ask, then go FA.

According to wikipedia, "Although the W1 got some considerably unfavorable reviews and some photography experts predicted a commercial failure, the W1 seems to have sold far over Fujifilms expectations.".

So already close to 10 yrs ago somebody were doing this and they were commercially happy.

However, this one, similarly to the 16-lens spider mentioned in this thread previously don't support the commercial perspective for the manufacturer to sell more lenses.

Why these problems are not affecting phone makers?

Parallax errors can also be a benefit. In the old days, camera makers spent extra effort to design and manufacture beam splitters on front of the lens. Nowadays such Steritar seems to ask for close to 300$ on eBay.

It isn't that long time ago when the idea of taking 4 pictures and combining them in software was said to be a bad product idea, unnecessarily complex and anyways impossible because of moving targets changing location between shots would anyways ruin the picture.

Obvious. Just using the TLR name to give a connection of how could the thing look alike. A digital reincarnation clearly wouldn't just 1:1 copy the old concept.

Other usages could be e.g. sliding focusing - other lens takes the pic at f1.4 and the other f11 and then give a slider for defining the depth of field. Simplified light field.

SLR's got mirror moving, TLR's -- in the old times -- didn't.

A TLR with a swinging mirror to give both lenses light path to their corresponding sensors. Nobody has implemented this, but it still would be a TLR.

Improved image quality.

Double the resolution or 8x resolution with pixel shift
Double the FPS (like gatling machine gun)
Improved dynamic range
New kind of bokeh effects

There's a reason why cell phone makers do it.

Many phones nowadays are improving the image quality by actually having dual lenses on the main camera.

Could this idea be carried up to the SLR world? Business-wise, it would allow selling a second copy of every lens that people have already bought.

There was a patent describing some kind of film TLR, but maybe more traditional bird nest design would make more sense?

Should this happen, would it be Q mount or K mount?

Not the place to make any camera comparisions .. but the first one shows really nice tonal separation. Doubling my previous thought about how would it look on a film camera.

The third one, gives the most detail. Interesting.. It's really the photographer, not equipment which makes the pic.

Medium format always gives certain look. I wonder how these would look with the most traditional Pentax 645.. ?

The model is just as promised in the thread title -- I would love to get closer.

Bought a DA* 55mm, took one picture, wasn't happy with the result, so threw the camera and the lens down the rocky path that we were climbing. The camera survived with just few cracks to the housing, but the lens got its deserved destiny.

Look, here is the pic - autofocus zooming to the wrong eye and composition is all wrong.

Macro lenses for landscape?

I remember when selling my M50/2.8 due to getting the A2.8 I ran through a number of tests with a number of lenses around the 50mm range.

I remember being disappointed looking at the D-FA 50 results at infinity compared to some others. Then thought, 'oh, this is a macro, never mind about the infinity'. Let's see if I can dig down the results, or redo something similar. Unfortunately currently I've got the same snowscape problem as the gentleman above.

One thing however is sure. The D-FA 50 is way better for about any of the use cases than my DA*55.
