I have been studying these files so that I can let ON1 know which lens I have. I have a Sigma 100-300 f4 but the exif is not unique for this lens so I need to delete the other matches (I think).

Moving photo catalogs to an NAS

Guess I'll have to believe you. I create an album, put a photo in the album. Move the photo to a different folder using ON1, and now the photo in the album is located in the new location.

Moving photo catalogs to an NAS

I am not following? You can put your raw files anywhere. The sidecar files will be in the same place. The ON1 Cache and Scratch folders do not have to be on the same drive as your raw files. Raw files can be on a HD and cache and scratch folders can be on a SSD for instance. If you using a catalog, you can use ON1 to move your raw files and ON1 will know where you moved them. If you aren't using a catalog, then you can move the raw files however you want. I believe ON1 also has an option to search for moved raw files.

Whats you favorite custom image profile??

Flat for me. I shoot raw and I believe the histogram and blinkies are most representative of the raw image using flat. Occasionally if I know I want a particular look, I will change the mode and use On1's "AI Match" mode to match the jpeg look and start my editing based on that.

PENTAX K-8 ? K-1 Mark II successor... What will it be/look like?

Since I know Pentax is reading this and so my vote here will count, this is what I would like:

Z9 lite i.e same sensor, no physical shutter
Improved AF starting with k3III improvements
Slightly faster burst rate, deeper buffer, faster buffer clearing

Same physical body size but lighter
Brighter viewfinder, use live view and the on-sensor phase detect pixels for focusing in the dark
I am ok with no gps, same setup as k3III, I will buy the o-gps

KP images exposed consecutively in bursts show radically different color temperatures

My guess is the entire rack of lights are on 1 phase instead of having lights wired to all 3 phases. Since all the lights are on a single phase, the power / color temp will cycle and you will see the different color casts.

Digital film roll concept

You can. Just record what frame you are on and slowly roll the film back into the canister. Put in a different roll and advance the film to the last frame on the roll. If you camera is really old, you have to remember to set the ASA.

I think this is more a future model for the SD card companies, not camera companies. You send them a "full SD card" and they charge you for the pictures. They send you the pictures and a new blank sd card.

I assumed the OP is using the TC with the 55-300 WR which means he is not going to be able to open up the aperture and that lens is good, but may not be as sharp on the long end as the OP wants.

I find the 15-30 big in bag, but nicely balanced in hand attached to my k-1. I will use it as a walk-around lens if I will be mainly in tight spaces. If I want to carry a smallish bag, I carry it with my 77 and/or 55. I often use it with the Fotodiox WonderPana filters. I prefer the WonderPana lens cap because it almost fits in my pants pocket.

Tri-x is an excellent example of how film grain is not like digital noise. I loved tri-x because of the grain, not despite it.

Since this hasn't been mentioned yet I will guess that the crop mode is set to auto, and the old lens is a crop mode lens which yields about 6 fps while the full frame lens yields about 4fps until the buffer fills.

I also only remove 1 card at a time, and have an old card in each of my bags, but I wish I didn't have to do the dance to switch back to the slot I want to use.

Pentax 15 30, what an unbalanced monster

I use my 15-30 mostly for landscapes, astro and wide night shots. I have no issues with the weight or size in hand. The size in my bag was a little bit of an issue, especially when I have the Fotodiox WonderPana filter holder attached but new bags fixed that issue. I am a little nervous when the camera is mounted on my tripod, but even without adding additional weight I haven't had it tip over yet. I will sometimes use it as my walk-around lens if I am feeling the need for ultra-wide and opt for it instead of the 24-70 or 31. I will not often have both the 15-30 and 24-70 in my bag at the same time. I normally will opt for the 15-30, 55, 77 combo or 15, 24-70. I have the laowa 15mm f4 macro which I like except for the distortion which sometimes needs correcting. Here is one of my favorite 15-30 shots.

At least for me, if I press and hold the EC(+-) button and make a change, then release the button, the mode switches out of EC mode. If you press and release without making a change, the camera stays in EC mode.

I use 2 methods. I use focus confirmation along with the Pentax O-ME53 to dial in focus. I also strap a Hoodman loupe to the camera and use live view.

On mine it is not the SDM motor, but the clutch. It sometimes will not manual focus either. I just exercise the focus ring in manual focus mode till it starts working again and all is fine until the next time I need to repeat procedure.

ASA vs. ISO

For me digital changed things. On BW film, mainly Tri-x, the grain, even when pushed, was not objectionable and many like the aesthetics. Now that I probably can't even get film on to a roll anymore and rarely convert my digital images to BW, I don't think noise is ever wanted so the lower the ISO the better.

K-1 Crop mode vs KP

This is why I don't use crop mode. I find it to be a lot of extra work to keep my subject in frame using crop mode. It doesn't do much good if I can get twice the number of frames when in many of them the subject is not where it should be. I find it much better to not rely on spray and pray and crop in post instead.

For me I only half wish for a higher frame rate on my k-1. I do miss the cool sound a fast firing shutter makes, especially when I am standing next to somebody who can hear it. I don't miss all the extra frames I have to go through in post.

Advice asked on buying Sigma 70-300 DG APO Macro lens or using my SMC DA-L 55-300

Below is a screen capture of the Sigma 70-300 APO and Pentax HD DA 55-300 wide open and for good measure the Sigma 100-300 f/4 at f/5.6 and f/4 all at 300mm.

I also included a screen capture showing the vignetting of the Pentax at 300mm and 100mm wide open.

If you didn't already have the pentax and you like flowers or small things, the sigma's "macro" capability might tilt favor its way.

Based on most of the reviews I have seen of the sigma 70-300, it is better than I thought it would be but depending on your use probably not better than the pentax 55-300 since at the center the pentax is definitely sharper with better contrast plus it is weather resistant.

I have the sigma, had the old pentax pre-plm version. The pentax is weather resistant, smaller/lighter, focuses faster and silently. I don't think the pentax will work very well with a TC especially at the long end. The sigma works great.

I bow to your superior knowledge of the inner workings of C1, even more than C1 support. I am not taking issue with a few missing white balance canned settings. Those settings led me to contact C1 support. If I decide to go back to C1 if/when my camera is officially supported, I will pass any support emails I receive by you for verification before I make any further bone-headed knee-jerk decisions. Really my main issue is why should I pay for a program that does not officially support my k1m2 when there are a few other alternatives that do support it? I apologize for spreading false info from C1 support on this issue.

The ICC profile, as mentioned in an earlier post, is dng neutral.

Yes I can change it to k1-generic, but it doesn't change the available white balance predefined options ie it doesn't make the CO gui think it is working with raw data.

I had no complaints with using CO with my k1m2, but my photos generally didn't have dynamic range issues or noise issues or anything else where raw vs jpg makes a big difference. But if the gui changes based on the format of the data, is it not reasonable to assume the imaging algorithms do too? If so how likely is it that the gui decides one format, but the imaging algorithms decide the other? Don't know any of the answers, but phase one's support response wasn't reassuring and I don't think I want to pay money and not be sure I am getting the best the software has to offer.

I didn't use the predefined settings either, but I did want to know why they were not there. The answer was not comforting and I decided to give up on capture one ever supporting my camera and decided it was time to move on. I decided to give my money to a company which is supporting the k1m2.

I have many blind spots and I am an amateur photographer who does not particularly like post processing and knows very little, but I think I do know more than you think I do. I do "know" that CO does treat k1m2 raw files differently from k1 raw files. The white balance controls are what you get for jpg files, not raw files. The difference in the handling of white balance is what triggered my correspondence with Phase One, and why I got the reply that I got. Other than the white balance difference, I know of know other limitations other than the hyperbole I got from phase one support, but with all the other options out there I see no need for paying for more updates that don't fully support the camera I use.

Below are screen captures from k1 and k1m2 dng files:
