Reporting back as promised. Quick service, three original Q batteries in original packaging, all charged up and being put to good use. The chilli-power branded batteries have become un-usable, having swollen so much that they no longer fit inside the Q battery housing. I am, however, still using the Chilli-power battery charger, especially when Iím travelling, as itís both ac and 12v dc capable. kind regards, K33F

I bought the cactus batteries, two batteries and a charger for about twenty five quid. The charger turned out to be brilliant, and versatile because it has a twelve volt input, so it can be used in my campervan on long trips. Sadly, the batteries have not lasted, both have swelled and now can’t be used as they jam in the battery compartment. My original Pentax battery is still working fine. Go figure!

What processing software do you use with your Pentax Q series?

I use snapseed, it works fine with raw files,it doesnít do anything fancy, but I pre-visualise before I press the shutter and donít have to process the hell out of my shots to get the desired outcome. Plus, itís FREE, my favourite price!

You don't need a circular polariser with the Q. A linear polariser works perfectly. But use what you have.

3.7 x 0.94= 3.478Wh, so that's correct then. It's no more than the previous battery, it must be cheaper to make methinks.

No Pentax bashing in my photo class

Only Pentaxes present

But

I'm the only pupil

And I'm the teacher

Photography, life everything, self taught and done for the simple pleasure of making a picture that matches my vision. Nothing else matters worth a damn. I started with a Spottie, moved over to K mount to change lenses more quickly at weddings, went digital when the *istD was released and upgraded to K10D when the *istD flash failed. Now I also have an original Q and I love it.

Oh dear, I tried it in daylight with my SMC A100 2.8. It works great, up to 1/1000 shutter speed and produces lovely sharp pictures on a tripod. Manual no longer required. Thanks for the encouragement.

Adapter k to q, user manual?

Thanks Adam, I've read that several times and I'm happy with how to operate the aperture settings. I just can't figure out why I keep getting a shutter speed of 1/160. I can't seem to change it in TV mode. Am I being a bit simple? It will be obvious when I know the answer and may seem like a dumb question, but the only dumb question is the one you're too scared to ask.

Adapter k to q, user manual?

I've recently bought the genuine q to k adapter to use with smc (A) lenses, particularly the 100mm 2.8 and the 50mm 1.4. I've updated my firmware to 1.14. I seem to be stuck with a fixed shutter speed of 1/160, with flash or without. I've been trying to learn by doing, but I'd do better if I could read a user manual. Does anybody know where I can download a set of instructions or a manual for the adapter. I already have the manual for the Q, but it doesn't cover the adapter. Thanks in advance.

Focusing Old 50mm Macro Lens

i dont understand why members would advocate the use of flash, its entirely inapprpriate for this task. your best advice would be to double check your focus and then make sure you can hold the camera stationary. by use of a tripod or some other means of support.

Q extension tubes

It appears to me that the working distance involved in going higher than 1:1 on, say, the 8.5mm 01 lens would become vanishingly small. This would render all but the shortest tube useless without the ability to reverse the lens. Even that would cause problems as the working distance will be the same as the Q register distance, not very convenient for handholding.

The more I think about this, the more obvious it becomes that for serious macro better than 1:1 the K to Q adapter and a regular macro set-up would be the way I'd go.

I don't think that the manufacturers have given the product much thought, but have continued with the old standard extension tube sizes. Caveat Emptor

Black cats (and dogs) are ninja. We have one of each but they can only be found at mealtimes. So difficult to photograph, especially close.

Q lenses on K body?

Actually,it is possible to use small format lenses in something like the way you ask. You need to use a second lens, such as a 35mm macro lens as a relay lens. I have done this with a Cosmicar 8.5mm cctv lens in C mount. It works fine and gives you the kind of pictures you probably wouldn't get any other way. I found this technique on line and spent many happy hours replicating it with items from my photo -junk box. Try googling "roll your own lens" for the original article that I followed.

Big battery for Pentax Q?

Is it just me, or does this miss the point of having the Q? Small, compact, pocket friendly, surely it would make more sense to just carry a couple of extra charged batteries, small, compact, pocket friendly. Even a dozen spare batteries would weigh less than the Quantum unit and probably last longer. ;)
