If it can't be repaired you can take the solenoids out to repair the aperture mechanisms on other bodies.

That and lack of parts. They might be able to reburn the firmware via hardware but I doubt it.

Check your favorite search engine for "Pentax K-x debug mode"

Or find a copy of pk_tether and enable debug mode through there. However since the camera won't boot up I doubt the USB will connect. You'll have to search the board for pk_tether as one of the users uploaded it and shared a download link.

Pentax K-1 Purple Photos & More - Sensor Or Control Board Problem?

If you bought the camera from eBay return it "not as described".

Cost of repairs plus what you paid already will probably be more than what you can buy a used K-1 in good condition.

?#1 k-70 aperture block, which repair service?

If under warranty send it to Precision.

If out of warranty try contacting US Ricoh on the toll free number printed on the warranty card. They covered this repair out of warranty on the K-50 in some instances.

KEH apparently can no longer get parts so they are out. Try Advanced Camera in Oregon. They are an authorized repair service so should be able to get parts.

Macro lens on K1 to digitize 645 B/W negs

A 100mm macro should do the trick. Maybe roughly 10-18 inches from the front of the lens, depending on the lens.

One of the older 50mm macros with 1:2 (0.5) magnification (Pentax A or earlier) with maybe 5-8 inches from the front of lens.

If you have deep pockets you could buy the Pentax Film Duplicator - they make one for 45 film too. But you probably still need to buy a lens.

Thinking of reacquiring a K-x...

One or more users on PF have reported some sort of dark frame problems with the K-x. Since there were no follow ups it is unknown if the is the aperture control block failure.

A couple of posters on the German Pentaxian forums have reported finding the green solenoid in place on the aperture control mechanism.

I would think that finding a K-x with a green solenoid installed from the factory is very, very unlikely. However a used camera may have had the white solenoid replaced with a green one in order to repair a K-30/50/70 or KS-1/2. Again, unlikely but still a remote possibility.

Micro-tools has dip style oilers

Oiler, Swiss Style Dip Fine Blue | Micro-Tools

A large needle or bodkin works for me unless a large amount of oil is needed (almost never). You can get insulin syringes at most pharmacies in the US without prescription. Those work.

Amazon:

The "needle" bottle types you can sometimes find at gun shops.

Don't forget to make a rescue disk. If you have a CD/DVD/Blu-Ray burner you can make a bootable disk. Otherwise you can make a bootable flash drive. I don't remember the minimum size drive you need but you can still use the drive for storage after you make it. The creation process will likely wipe the driver first.

Ricoh Imaging US being one of them. It is better to call the toll free number on the warranty card the to use the contact form on the website.

Many camera repair shops grew up from "mom and pop" (family owned) businesses from the pre-Internet era and still hold with practices from their heritage.

Buying from US and shipping to Australia

As I recall one Australian member said they purchased a used Pentax K-50 from KEH which turned out to have the aperture control failure. Rather the go through the expense and trouble of shipping it back to the US KEH simply refunded the money. Member contacted CR Kennedy who told the member this was a known issue with the camera and since it was purchased from an Authorized Pentax/Ricoh reseller would repair the camera for free under warranty. Which they did.

Broken DC Jack, thoughts on DIY repair or alternatives?

Advance Camera in Oregon is an authorized repair center and has lower rates than Precision. However in all likelihood they would replace the entire mainboard or whichever board the socket is attached to.

Surface mount sockets often have little metal pins/tabs that extend through the PCB and are soldered into place. Sometimes it is just a matter of re-soldering the pins. Other times the socket has broken apart and needs to be replaced completely. Depending on which side of the board the component is on may require removal of the mainboard to access the solder points.

I would avoid using super glue which can outgas for months leaving a permanent white haze on materials which is non-conductive.

Someone else had the same problem in the last year or two. I don't remember the outcome but you should search for that thread. It may not have been a K-1/ii

Operation is simple. All three "drives" (partitions) are checked. Uncheck the ones you don't want to image/backup. For disaster recovery all should be checked. Then click on "Image this disk". It will guide you through the rest - target drive - save job - regular schedule etc.

The AC adapter has the same Hirose plug that fits the K-1, K-3, K-5, K-7, K20D and K10D. The dummy battery adapter has a socket that fits plug.

You're lucky, uscamera.com has it in stock. Once the stock is gone they won't be able to get parts any longer from Ricoh.

Pentax 77240-A0302 LCD Window | K-5 | K-5 II | K-5 IIs | K-7 | USCameraUSCamera
Pentax 77240-A0303 Window Tape K-5 | K-5 II | K-5 IIs | K-7 | USCameraUSCamera

Failing that you could try a windshield crack repair kit from an auto supply store. The idea is to inject some clear resin that cures with ultraviolet light (sunlight) into the crack. Can work reasonably well in my experience.

Lens mount problem

Well, not really. I have a Vivitar 2 Macro Teleconverter made in the 1980's and my genuine Pentax M42 adapters will not fit in it. Third party lenses can have subtle (or not so subtle) differences that adds up to incompatibility. Look at the old 3rd party lenses with the overly large shield for the aperture lever. Perfectly fine on bodies without zoom contacts but require modification on bodies with zoom contacts.

Forcing photo equipment to fit is never a good idea. I bought a "Polaroid" branded T2-mount adapter (made in India) that would not thread on to the adapter that came with my mirror lens. Forcing it on may have stripped the threads on the telescope adapter. T-mount should be T-mount but not in this case. The adapter went back for refund and I found a new-old-stack K-mount version from the same brand as my Minolta T2 adapter (made in Japan).

The lever circled in the photo above is the aperture settings linkage and will be present on all non-"crippled" bodies including the KM film SLR.

It is probably the power zoom contacts in the mirror box. If the MZ30 is like my MZ50 it has a dummy mount for the contacts with no contacts at all. By KM do you mean the manual focus film SLR or the K-m DSLR? The KM has no contacts in the mirror box. The Laowa should mount on DSLRs with power zoom contacts - there may be differences though between the design of the contacts between the film cameras and DSLRs.

Can you post photos of the mount on the Laowa and the mirror box of the MZ-S/6?

With the cost of 1-3 TB USB drives your best bang for the buck is to go that way. The drive may even come with backup software on it. Not the best but will do the job as does Windows included backup and recovery apps.

Macrum Reflect is an excellent choice. The free version is more than sufficient unless you need data encryption. Fast and simple to use with a disk cloning function as well. The free version only backups entire volumes/disks but you can attach the backup image as a drive and copy off individual files that way.

Another option would be a SATA to USB 3.x dock. Just slip in a bare 3.5 or 2.5 inch SATA drive and it will mount as a removable USB drive. Speeds are limited USB transfer speeds. You can use SATA interface SSDs but since USB presents a bottle neck why spend the money.

On my desktop I have a SATA docking tray that takes 3.5" SATA drives. Full SATA III speeds since it just plugs into the SATA controller.

The test button is either bad or you didn't put it back together properly. Test as suggested. The test button just "shorts" or closes the trigger circuit, same as "shorting" or closing the circuit with a paper clip.

Try Advance Camera in Oregon. They won't sell you parts either but are (or was) an authorized Ricoh repair service for non-warranty work. Their rates are usually significantly lower than Precision's even if they have to send the equipment to Precision (in some cases).

If you can find a set of the Kenko tubes with contacts, yes. Otherwise you can't control the diaphragm. There are a few 3rd party tubes in Kaf mount but the reviews on these are dreadful.

If the problem is in the electronics the only fix is to replace the circuit board. Not likely with no parts available.
