Unsure how many were produced. They are rare though. The going price for these is north of US$7000 depending on condition and a touch of luck.

Not 'cheap' but cheap by comparison - I recommend the K 500mm f4.5 - no need for a TC with that beast

@dcshooter is looking for a deceased K-01. Not a direct help here, but your 'dead camera' might be of value to someone thus helping you with the next purchase. Just suggesting.

If I were to buy this lens I would display it. It would be displayed in a manner similar to an old half disassembled aircraft on a regional airfield; symbolic of an aircraft no longer operable, but too good to send to the scrap yard ...... locked into an eternal memorial exhibition unable to go to heaven or hell .......

DFA 150-450 vs Sigma 150-500

Yeah, that is a good price.

Make sure the lens focuses within the AF adjustment range for your camera. Some Sigma copies are capable for serious forward/ backward focusing. Just saying.

I suspect the 150-500 will be better 'IF' the following is true:

1. Your tele lens experience is low
2. Your cameras ISO performance is not the best

The K-1 has very good ISO performance. The 2x TC is going to have a substantial impact on IQ, more so than the 1.4x tC. I would be edging towards the 150-500mm.

I have the Sigma 150-500 and I can say it is very good. Not the best though in terms of IQ.

The in lens stabilisation is a great addition and makes a massive difference. While IQ lags slightly behind the F*300mm + 1.4xTC/ Sigma 100-300 f4 + 1.4xTC combos, it beats the methoned combos in usability (here I refer to the in lens stabilisation). Your 'keeper' rate will increase with the Sigma 150-500!!!

But if you are an advanced tele user then the combo's will probably appeal to you more.

Vivitar 90mm f2.5 Macro " Bokina " not focusing with adapter

The adapter renders the lens a non-infinity focusing macro for the purposes of 1:1. If you are trying to focus on something at a distance with the adapter then I suspect it will be blury. You will need to remove the adapter for subjects in that range.

Pentax MX - Exposure measurement issue ... and a question.
Posted By Wild Mark

No, something is wrong with the mechanism that opens the circuit when the lever is moved into said position. It is a copper? plate that is pushed into position by the film advance lever. As I understand it, the plate can fatique over time and does not complete its desired action with age - thus depleting the battery (i.e. circuit remains open irrespective of the film lever position).

Perhaps my suggestion is not the diagnosis? I am not understanding this observation (outside my level of expertise)

Great description of the issue and analysis of the manual.

As I understand it, there is a mechanical process that 'opens' the electronic circuit when the film advance lever is in the 20 degree angle position. I have noted this in practice by examining the mechanical action with the bottom plate removed.

So, it stands to reason that the battery would deplete if the mechanics associated with the cocking position of the film advance lever have fatigued over time. The solution is relatively simple; you take the bottom plate off and adjust the contact mechanism, through trial and error, to the correct position.

Macro Native Bee pollinating Deane's Boronia

Thanks guys.

I haven't got a picture of the plant, somewhat non-descript really (excluding the flower). But, when it flowers on mass, it is quite a sight. The plant, Boronia deanei, grows at the margins of Temperate Highland Peat Swamp on Sandstone - a rather beautiful kind of swamp with lots of very interesting ecology. The swamps occur in the valleys where creeks would ordinarily be. The valley invert is 'filled' with peat on which the swamp occurs (and is restricted to).

With regards to colours and sharpness, everything is as is from the camera. The F100/2.8 macro is a very special lens - it has a pixie dust magic to it. The X2 close up lens specifically designed for this lens (and the FA100/2.8) sits in front of the lens nested within the proprietary ring flash (using a specific adapter). It has taken me years to assemble this gear and I cannot believe just how good it is. If you can get this gear then I thoroughly recommend.

Yeah, okay. I am not at all good at invertebrate taxonomy so my limited google work is what it is. The location where this bee was photographed is very remote so it is fair to assume it is a native species.

Here is a link to a scientific paper on the swamps in question. If you can tolerate the dry language you will find plenty of very interesting stuff.
