The TX mount was a proprietary system used by Vivitar and Soligor to make their lenses "universally" adaptable. The interchangeable adapters came in a wide range of lens mounts, so one lens with the proper adapter could be fit to Pentax, Nikon, or Olympus, etc. Tamron had the same sort of universal system called Adapt-a-matic or, later, Adaptall.

Is there a correct way of attaching a screw mount lens to a Pentax SLR?

It's easier to use the A/M switch of an S-M-C or SMC Takumar lens when it is screwed onto the body. When the lens is unmounted you can easily switch from auto to manual, but you'll have to depress the tiny lock pin on the face of the mount in order to switch from manual to auto. You can screw the lens on with the switch in either position; the face of the body will depress the pin.

If the Autocord's focus lever is hard to move, don't force it. They are easy to break. Have it cleaned and re-lubed first.

You're probably right. The focus ring of the 50mm f1.8 that came with the camera was frozen solid. Fortunately, replacements are cheap; I got one in very good condition for $26. Unfortunately, adapters for Miranda to digital are a little harder to come by; as far as I can tell, only Fotodiox has one.

I'm surprised that videographers don't pay more attention to the Sensorex lenses--the external aperture coupling arm allows smooth adjustment of the stepless diaphragm.

I count 54 film cameras, of which 20 are Pentaxes, including 2 ME Supers and 2 Super Programs. This is the latest film camera, given to me by a friend who was cleaning house:

Well, rats! I was going to vote for the XA2 as well, but mine stopped working. I took the top and bottom off to clean the shutter button contacts, and when I put it back together I got the rewind/self-timer switch crossed up, so it still doesn't work. But when it was working it was a great little camera, easy to carry and fun to shoot.

I got my first TLR recently, also a Minolta Autocord (I, from 1965), and in the same week I bought a Canon QL17 GIII--both from local dealers. The Autocord has the Rokkor 75mm f/3.5 and Citizen-MVL shutter, and when I got it the focus lever was frozen solid (don't force it!) and the shutter and aperture selection levers were stiff--a sure sign of stiff grease under the faceplate. So I sent it for a thorough CLA with TLR guru Karl Bryan, and now it works smooth as silk. It's loaded with Portra 400 NC. I put new light seals in the Canon, gave it a good cleaning myself, and it's ready to shoot with Superia X-TRA 400.

I agree. Also, I have big hands and long fingers--and a little "arthuritis"--so the KX is easier to use than the little MX, which makes me scrunch up my fingers too much. I have a motor drive for my MX, which bulks it up a little, but I still prefer to use the KX.

Thanks all! Don't you love those fancy yellow feet?

Since I got a heavy Benro MAD49A monopod, the sharpness of my DA*300 has improved immensely.

The first thing I did when I got my LX was send it out to Eric Hendrickson for a CLA. Now I can be confident that it performs as well as it was designed to do.
