Look dude, it's a personal opinion. I hate how this place goes all ham on anyone trying to give any opinion that isn't formulated out of perfect scientific lab test that need to hold up in Scientific America. I mean really. You need to evaluate your life if you are giving this guy grief for making a good effort at providing info for others.

Reminds me of Nation Lampoons vacation when the grouch old father in law, after looking at Clark's giant holiday light display, says, "Clark, you know the little white lights aren't blinking".

I shoot a lot of this type of stuff as an architect. Here's a few things I think make for a better shot.

1.) Turn on every light in the house, every last one. You don't want to see a dark hall beyond, and lamps that are shot while off look dreary.
2.) When I am shooting something like a kitchen, no matter how clean the homeowner makes it, it's still got too much clutter. I usually just move almost everything except a nick nack or two to the floor just outside the shot in the same groupings it was in on the counter. I also take a messy pic first so I can refer to it to return belongings.
3.) Straightening verticals in post is a must.
4.) I often just exposure bracket when I don't have time to set up flashes for an entire house shoot and blend in pp.
5.) I usually time outdoor shots at blue hour or when the sun is on the facade I am shooting to create shadow lines and depth.
6.) For exteriors, make sure the grass is cut of there's a lawn.

It's art. Nobody said the point of photography is to make an exact photocopy of real life, or if doing that is somehow 'better' than representing the real world in a different way. Copying is not creative, that's technical.

I thought the wildlife photographer off the grid carried a 7d m2? I have seen their interviews, and the only thing they ever say is that they are looking into looking into whatever feature the interviewer brings up.

It is an interesting target market then, some cameras for the rugged outdoor shooter and others for Japanese teen girls. Makes perfect sense.

Sure, but let's be real, what is a bigger money maker for them, k3 or FF? The FF market worldwide just isn't all that big. I can't imagine using their financial work horse as a guinea pig for FF, which is going to be more of a marketing tool than anything.

Because they skip things that are just commonplace in the market that you think would be a no brainer and then add things they may be useful to only say wildlife photographers off the grid. I mean really, an astro tracker but no wifi? Are they looking to gain market share and sell some cameras? There's no way market research came back to them and green lighted that decision. It's just the quirkiness that is Pentax I guess.

Why do they always just skip things that seem so logical if they want to grab market share? I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the engineering conference room.

"Yes, we think wifi, articulating screens and video is just a passing fad". "Ok, let's skip them again and give them something everyone needs, an astro tracker!"

Composition Adjustment/Sensor Shift...are you using it?

Yes, but the return on investment for me was too minor to be perceived. I still love the concept though. If I already owned a k3 for other reasons, sure why not shift it, but don't think I wouldn't buy one for that.

And yes, the Olympus version is doing in camera what you would do in post. I had thought it interesting in helping with framing when you are at the limits of the frame and fitting the subject in, but it seems to crop so much that it doesn't really help you out.

Because this feature is so exciting to me, I went to the store and played with it for a while. I got so little shift out of it that for me it's not really worth it.

The em5m2 and the em-1 both have a way to simulate full shifting with Jpegs in camera, but they seem to crop a lot out to do it, and you can't do it with bracketing or raw. Seems like nothing in camera is all that great at the end of the day. I was hoping for more of a miracle and brought back down to reality. I was going to get the k-3 for this feature alone, but I will probably rule it out as a reason to buy the camera one way or the other. Back to using Photoshop for now.

Mike, is that at full shift? It's deceiving, that first pic of the house looks like so much more correction than something like this.

Is there a brief guide or tutorial anyone's put together in how to get the best starbursts? As hard as I try, I am not getting squat. Are you taking longer exposures, using an ND filter, what?

Thanks JPT for the info. Seeing as you got to play with one, is the shutter sound like the k3 or the k50? Did you try LV AF at all?

K3 vs k2 function access buttons and customization

I am trying to get my hands around direct access controls on each of these. It seems the k3 has a more direct iso button, a button for metering, a button for AF mode, and for focus point adjustment that the k2 doesn't have? Shutter speed and aperture are controlled by front and rear dial on both, and exposure compensation looks the same on both. Neither have any dedicated empty assignable buttons. Did I miss anything or get that wrong? is there anything that can be customized on either, except maybe the two scroll wheels?

I am debating these two and after using a k-01 and now a LX100, I don't want to go back to the k-01, k-r level of control, which requires too much menu diving and button pushing. It's just much more enjoyable to shoot the LX100 now than the k-01 for that reason alone. I like the wifi and the articulating screen of the k2, but I am afraid I am right back where I am now. The function access of Cameras like the Fuji x-t1, the A7, and the higher end m43 leave me drooling over direct function control. Thoughts?

Thanks so much for your thoughts. Your comments about getting good results in LR may kill my Fuji thoughts, as that would drive me nuts. I use LR and photoshop as my workflow and am not dying to add a completely new program into the mix.

I wanted to ask you about if you used LV and if you could compare the two. As I mentioned in my op, I end up using LV instead of a viewfinder for most of my shooting. If you had to shoot people moving, which cameras AF works best now?

Which camera is quieter in operation, from lens noise while focusing, to shutter sound?

Which of the two cameras would you say allowed the most access to functions without menu diving or excessive button pressing? Visually the Fuji looks like it would operate more like the lx100 and be more fun than your standard dslr, but I've never used a dslr with the K3's level of control, so the k3 may trump it?

My requirements are a little different I think than the normal dslr shooter, so I am really having a hard time translating pros and cons into how I would use each camera.

What makes you a dlsr man? is it using an optical viewfinder? What specifically makes you shoot more with Pentax, outside of the whole EVF/OVF discussion?

Thanks. I like the swivel screen, but I can still shoot live view with a fixed screen, hold it high or low, and see it just fine on the angle. AS much as I've always wanted one, it's not a deal killer not to have it. I just think the k-2 puts me right back to the kr as far as enjoyment and ease of access to controls, which is not where I want to be. Am I wrong about that? What can't you change on the k-2 that you can on the k3 from an outside dedicated button?

But more importantly, how slow is the af using LV on the k-2? I guess we don't know, but if it's anything like the k-50 or the k5-11, it's out for me. I am shooting moving objects. What I have now isn't cutting it. Am I just getting more of the same?

Twitch, thing is that the k-3 isn't all that much more that the ks-2 at it's current sale price. I am also worried that it gets me right back to about the same level of control as the K-r. Yes there's a second dial, but no top screen, the Iso button is not super easy to quick access, and not much for programmable buttons or buttons for other features. I really want a shooting experience like I'm getting customizing the lx100. I think the K-3 gets closer to that with way more access to stuff without diving into the menus.
