For full manual k mount I have an M 50mm 1.7 and K 55mm 1.8 and will always mount the K 55mm. Colors sharpness contrast and 3d feel are amazing!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I love the k series primes but this guy might be a little out of my price range right now. I'll let you know if I acquire at a price that I'm comfortable with.

SMC K 85-210mm f/3.5 : fair price?

I have an opportunity to acquire a k series 85-210mm 3.5 but prices are hard to find due to the scarcity of this lens. Anybody have an idea of what a fair price would be for it?

Here in the lens db it seems to have one time sold for 800.00 and once for 400.00.

Thanks in advance!

From personal-view.com -
image with some new information regarding sensor size and other new features. Didn't validate the source but Vitaly usually has pretty solid info.

Watermark in image is photorumors.com so this might all be complete malarky.

I still adore so many of the shots that I have from my k100ds - returned to photography with it and shot with it for 7 years. I also had time then to shoot more but those sony ccd sensors were magic!

I love my SMC 55mm 1.8 (K series). I know the 1.4 is touted as having better results but bagging it and an SMC M 35mm 2.8 for 60 bucks makes me real happy with the results!

There is a definite 3d quality to it - most likely since it's heritage is the 55mm 1.8 super tak.

Replace my K-30 with a K-50 on sale???

Are you planning on more run and gun style shooting or narrative style? If the latter then rolling shutter is less of a concern unless your style includes lots of whip pans... the gh2 hacked is a marvellous thing at 1080p esp at used prices nowadays.

A gh2 has far superior video quality. As well you can adapt k mount glass easily and focus manually. There is also a decent performing focal reducer giving close to aps-c field of view. Check this thread on personal-view.com:

Manual lens works fine on K200d but not on K-3

It's not just resale value though it's the hassle. You can't just "sand off" anodization. I modded an m42 lens for av mode to work that was anodized and had to use a wire brush on my dremel very carefully since the aluminum mount is quite soft.

I seriously wish the firmware would be modified for post k20 bodies so the aperture pin short isn't required! I don't want to be sanding anodized metal on mounts- I've used aluminum tape and made a template but even that is a hassle since the tape can wear/tear and metal bits can fall into the body. I want to keep the lenses in good shape for possible resell in the future. K100ds fine, k30 nope!

Luv mine too!

Noticed many mentions of diaphragm repair- mine has been ok for the 10 months I've had it (bought here on the marketplace) but I haven't been shooting as much as I used to due to work. Did notice that stop-down on an M lens with a sticky aperture was a bit hit and miss until I worked the ring a bit.

Wondering what the fail percentage is? Have a chance to pick up a second body for 175.00 and thinking I might for a backup.

One feature so needed to compete in this space: well speced video!! At least 1080p with no moire or aliasing issues at a high enough bit rate to allow some post processing. 10 bit 422 would be amazing!

I purchased my k30 from the marketplace here on PF. So happy with it but regarding hard protectors, there was one installed when I received it. Being excited to go shooting in the rain I went out on a light misting day to give it a go. Came back inside and during wipedown I see that a few drops had crept in under the edge of the protector and I wasn't able to wick the water out. So I removed it and have decided I'd rather take chances with a few scratches over water spots in the display!

I realize the sdk won't allow full control of the firmware on the nx1 but still a step on the open source direction!

Samsung is really opening up the NX1 - new firmware for video improvements and a near future release of an sdk for custom firmware development.

Enormous Samsung NX1 firmware update, including LOG gamma! - EOSHD

The future is upon us and devices are now being made so the end user can get the most out of their investment to serve their needs.

Catchup Pentax.

@StephenHampshire That train series is stunning - I envy your skills and opportunities!

A few walk-around the block shots from last night, getting some of the golden fall light when I can. Shots with an M series 135mm f/3.5 that I picked up at a garage sale for 5 bucks. I love this lens. Love it! All shot at (what I assume) is f/4.0, first half-stop between 3.5 and 5.6.

Cine lens shots must be heavily cropped unless it was a super 35mm but doubt it since it's an 8-40mm f/1.2 most likely 16mm. Image circle wouldn't cover aps-c.

Just googled it - 8mm! Must vignette like crazy and on a k100d you do not have many pixels to play with...

Wow... those equestrian event shots are amazing, and everyone elses contributions are just fabulous as well! I understand this is the end of summer for most of the world, not many posts here- but had to contribute because it's been a while and we were out picking for eBay this last weekend in Senneville, Quebec at garage sales. Wound up at a fabulous place in the countryside of the area with old barns and then went into the village of Sainte Anne de Bellevue next door where I saw these amazing kites on display in the ceiling skylights of a passageway between buildings. Hope you all enjoy, fabulous to see the Pentax gang churning out such amazing work!

My most sincere encouragement to anyone that takes on a challenge such as this! I work as a php/ front end developer and trying to reverse engineer a WordPress theme can take two days or more...

Once my side projects clear off I'd be willing to lend a hand although I doubt my skills would be of any assistance in such a complex environment and I have no real experience in 'real' dev environments.

I received this response earlier on when asking the same sort of question- this time I decided to be clear by stating that the pixel dimensions capture were identical between the two sensors.

My point here is that the pixel dimensions are the same between the two sensors - because the surface area of the sensor (if the pixel dimensions are the same) would now not have any affect on the the amount of magnification required to print at any given size. This type of comparison couldn't be done with film - the surface area of the negative was the "pixel dimensions" - won't get into grain structure, etc (although that did play a role, I wouldn't ignore that) - magnification was an optic phenomenon of the development process, just as the lens is part of the capturing process.

With a digital sensor, the pixel dimensions ARE final resolution. There is no more "magnification" that can be done without intentionally degrading the image. Reduction is the only manipulation of the final capture that can be done.

I'm not negating the magnification effect of the narrower field of view with a smaller sensor- ,I was basically questioning the concept that the OoF rendering in an image would change depending on the sensor size. If I so choose, I can move my camera furher away from the subject to emulate the same field of view, but I am then going to absolutely change the rendering of OoF areas, as well as the depth of field represented in the image. I'm not disputing crop factor (FoV limiting is how I think about it in my head) - I'm disputing that, with the same captured pixel dimensions a smaller sensor would render differently than the larger sensor.
