that was 5 years ago!

I think the DA55-300 can focus about 0.1m closer than the Nikon 70-300 assuming the current versions are the same formula as 2010.

30.5 mil with only 5 numbers is better odds than any lottery I've known.

I once won a small prize of about $200 playing Keno (electronic "bingo" with a selection from 80 numbers)

The 9 numbers I chose were all the "weird Pentax" DA/FA prime focal lengths 15, 21, 31, 35, 43, 50, 55, 70 and 77.

Getting all 9 of those (1.4mil to 1) would've built a studio on my house, bought fair bit of gear and couple of decent holidays :D
8 numbers (31,000 to 1) would maybe get a lens or two. :)

As it happened, 7 numbers (1,700 to 1) paid for lunch ;) and some beer :o

This landscape photography does take some skill. But of course having the right tools for the job helps...

D FA 150-450mm Review

The HD 150-4500 lens is full frame compatible as is noted in the first sentence of the review.

The test was done with a K-3 which is an APS-C body so it was evaluating the lens's performance on APS-C frame.

The next review of it in (hopefully) early 2016 will be titled as such to differentiate and might look something like this.......
.
.
.. Just reviewed: HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 (FULL FRAME)

DA21 reference is just a cut/paste hangover from the last one.
You don't expect him to write every review new from a clean sheet, do you?

Looking forward to reading this even though this lens isn't on the horizon for me.
Thanks Adam

Poll: Pentax Battery Lifetime

3 batteries with K-7 nearly 6 years old and an additional one with K-5IIs 2 1/2 yrs old all still performing equally. - cant tell the difference.

3 are labelled as cell made in JPN pack assembled in CHN. Other one is Made in CHN.

1000+ shots out of the last charge and is still going, just checked.... it's one of the old ones.

I've tried it with the original Q and Q-K adaptor a couple of years ago.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/136-pentax-q/212387-astro-q-club-5.html#post2365594

Jupiter exposure was OK at ISO200 1/60 s f6.8 (which is wide open on DA*300 w/ 1.7x AFA) Focal length 510mm
It moves so fast and hard to keep in the Q's view (framing is equivalent to FL of 2850mm)

The completely blown out Jupiter (magnitude: -1.56) with visible moons, Io (+6.2), Callisto(+6.79), Ganymede(+5.8) was taken a 1/5 s ISO1600.
- Europa was hidden on that day 26/4/13.

I've never tried it with the K-5 and OGPS combo as I figured it would be too fast for astrotracer with 300mm+
If the minumum is 10sec then it'd still likely blow out even at ISO80

......or Crispy Pata (deep fried pork knuckles)

......or Sisig (chopped bits of pig's head and entrails on a sizzling plate, with chilli & little Calamansi limes..)

Personally I like it with Kinilaw (raw fish, lemon juice, vinegar, spices) - - slightly healthier than the other options.

I have too many camera bags and strangely I feel not enough when I see threads like this.

Good: Domke F-5XC

One body and lots of Ltd lenses fit, and is easy for urban travelling.
Took this one to UK-France this year for 3 weeks with K-5IIS, DA15, FA31, DA18-135WR, and a Sigma 8-16, O-GPS1, filters, batteries, cards and a few other bits. Easy and comfortable and didn't get in the way. My wife's handbag was bigger & bulkier.

Not So good: Kata DT-213

I got this one together with a waist pack Kata DW-493. I have used the waist pack quite a few times but this torso pack just doesn't work. It has plenty of padding and I thought of using it while biking or skiing or hiking ..... but it just gets in the way with all those activities. It's even difficult to get a camera out of it without smacking yourself in the face or knocking a your hat off.
It does appear a little awkward when worn also. (I was going to say it makes me look a bit of a "knob-end" but there could be other factors influencing that description:o)

Good and Bad : Kata DR 466i

I needed a backpack style for transporting a couple of bodies and several lenses in hand luggage and also for use when travelling.
I don't generally like shooting out of a backpack but have to hold gear somehow.
The Kata 3in1 style looked interesting in the demos but seeing one for real it seemed it was rigid and boxy.
Good backpacks are pretty expensive and these Kata DR ones seemed pretty good. A DR 466i came up for 40bucks (>65% off) so I grabbed one. It is pretty well made and the bottom section is nicely padded with those yellow dividers and there's lots of little zipper sections for small bits and pieces.

The bad part is the DR 466i size is a bit small. The bottom section is the same "techincally" as the 467i but it's kind of squashed in and is a little awkward to get into. The top section is significantly smaller than the 467i I'd say 1/2 the volume and the laptop slot is pretty tight even for a 13.3". After buying it I saw this youtube clip with a comparison. 466i on the left and 467i on the right.

Good: Tiffen filter pouch
This is really handy. I always carry 3 or 4 filters CPL or ND's and this little pouch stuck on a belt is really handy. I put lens caps in there too. I didn't buy the Tiffen filters, just the pouch.

photo from B&H

Good: Think tank Belt and "Skin" Components

These are really good if you like walking but don't like camera backpacks. - A little difficult to sit down with it loaded up though.
I've got one if the padded belts and 3 different sizes of the unpadded pouches, "Body bag" (wide one) , "50" (short one) and "75" (long one).

not my photo but the same setup except with padded belt.

Quite comfortable to carry on the hips and fits a decent amount of stuff of you don't get to crazy.
I used this setup for soccer games, motorsport, yacht racing and a rodeo (all with 2 bodies).

It's also good for hiking which I did in Tasmania last weekend and central Australia last year.
Pictured below is in Kings Canyon in NT carrying a K-5, DA15, FA31, DA35macro DA100macro, DA18-135, DA55-300, Sigma 8-16, O-GPS1, mini tripod, rocket blower, batteries, cards and BIG bottle of water and some snack bars. (NO Backpack)

I picked up a set of Merrel Chamelons (waterproof) for around that money a bit over a year ago. - I bought them in Philippines as I was working there they were much cheaper than paying the "Australia tax". The USA prices seem are about the same as I paid.

Men's Chameleon Shift Mid Waterproof - Hiking | Merrell

Very comfortable with good arch & ankle support, flexible soles, reasonably lightweight and not too hot in the summer. I haven't fully tested the "waterproof" claim by doing creek crossings though.

I've done lots of hiking in them ranging from totally flat/dusty around Uluru, dry creek beds with soft ankle twisting sand, clambering over boulders in Kata Tjuta, hiking up steep granite mountain in Girraween NatPark (QLD). Loose gravelly & snow (NZ and southernNSW), steep muddy - temperate rainforest. (northern NSW) and on Sunday last weekend was at Cradle Mountain, TAS (see pic attached) although I didn't actually climb right up to it. - didn't have the time or the fitness level.

I've also done loads of urban walking at home and on holidays - it was the only pair of shoes I took on a 3 week UK-France trip.
Can spend the whole day out shooting and being on my feet without getting sore feet. - I get sore arms and neck instead - but of course that's a whole other problem.

The telescope in that photo is very pretty yes.... but it doesn't (didn't) work! It owes me 2 euros.:hmm: - I'm sure its the same one. - on the 2nd level.

Look at how awkwardly my 7 y.o. son is "smiling"... he's seething with rage.

I'm embarrassed to say that I did exactly that :o (chimp), the last time I ran a roll through my dad's 56 year old Agfa.

Only once though in 24 shots on the roll.

the barrel of a Canon would be white with a red ring on it.

that one looks to be Cast iron? so would be the barrel of a Cannon.

The closer one is probably bronze. That one has a "sight" for aiming with the little slot at the near end and a small tab at the end of the barrel. A token effort since it has a smooth bore and just blasts a metal sphere in the general direction of where it's pointed.

Charging battery in other country

Well you were obviously not touching or were well insulated from the "ground". If you were touching the ground and holding high voltage then there might be a pretty high current going through you to the ground. ... or you we in a Faraday cage with bolts of lightning arcing all around you and you're totally safe.

.... anyway I wouldn't recommend touching live conductors of any kind. Even if you "think" they're off.

Most computer power packs and battery chargers are suited to 100V up to 250V AC output giving the correct DC output to the device so a simple plug adaptor to suit the local socket will do.

If you travel a bit, a handy thing is a convertable adaptor with USA - Europe - GB and AU/NZ all in one unit and you're good to go in pretty much any country in the world except South Africa which has a massive 3 round pronged 15amp rated monster of a plug.

No, it still works, (it'll probably run until the CRK website admin shows up to work on Monday) but the price on the DA21 dropped 105 to "only" 594 AU.

My LBA is cured I think. Next week will mark 1 year since last buying a lens.

Nice shot. Is that before or after he has had some interaction with some of your footwear?

if "Before" : That's a pretty ballsy effort getting that close.

if "After": come to think of it, looking more closely he does look to be suffering a slight concussion.
