Other than what the exterior looks like, what is the optical difference between the old and the new model?

Here's a photo that I have of Miss USA (Nia Sanchez), several years ago when I was part of a group that did a photo shoot on a cruise ship.

It was a photo shoot and the video was unplanned so I didn't have any equipment with me to help me stabilize the video. I heard not so positive things about the K-3's software shake reduction so I turned it off. Perhaps I'll try using it next time around.

This is with a Pentax K-3 with a Pentax FA 50mm f/1.4 and a variable ND filter. The camera was set to full manual with SR off and hand held.

Strange alternating JPEG saving anomaly on K-3

Yes the camera was set to "Save to Both". The image size was Large JPEG at 3 stars. I haven't done any more testing with similar brand/model cards since I don't have two identical cards of the same brand/model. The K-3 only let's you see the contents of one card at a time so the order that is displayed on the back of the camera is based on the order that they show up in each card. There is nothing in the manual or any other documentation that I have read that indicates that this is something that the camera does as a feature.

Strange alternating JPEG saving anomaly on K-3

This evening and I decided to test out the K-3's ability to shoot continuously. I had both SD card slots occupied. SD1 was using a SanDisk 32GB SDHC Extreme Class 10 UHS-1 80MB/s and SD2 slot was using a Lexar 32GB SDHC Memory Card Platinum II Class 10 UHS-I. The camera was set to SV on the dial and focus was set to AFC SEL 1, and ISO set at 5000. The lens that I was using was the Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 XS.

The card setting was set up so that both cards would save to JPEG. So after shooting continuously for several hundred shots, the images actually started saving the images in alternating order. So all the even numbered images saved on to SD1 and the odd numbered images started saving to SD2. Has anyone else noticed this happen with their K-3?

Pentax Q + GoPro Hero 3 = ???

I just had a thought that it might actually be a wonderful idea if Pentax and GoPro partnered up to produce an interchangeable lens helmet camera. To me it makes sense because Pentax appears to be trying to direct its development to be known as an outdoor rugged camera company. Pentax has had several generations of waterproof cameras, and they are the only manufacturer at this point in time who actually have a whole lens system dedicated to small sensors like the ones in the GoPro cameras. GoPro on the other hand is making a big name for itself for being the most well known wearable cameras out there. Perhaps if GoPro started licensing Pentax's Q mount to give access to its various lenses then together they can make one of the most versatile outdoor wearable cameras out there.

Lens prices and our channel strategy in the U.S. - Ned Responses

Now that his official statement is out. I believe that Pentax pricing will eventually go down to find it's true market cost in order to compete with the larger camera manufacturers. We are well aware how low we were able to purchase these lenses for, we just have to weather the storm and let the invisible hand do its work to stabilize the price.

I don't like the lens prices the way they are now, but I understand that it was done in order to allow brick and mortar stores to move their inventory. With the lens prices as high as they are now, there may actually be more incentive for a store to push the sale of Pentax products due to the higher profit margins that can be gained from its sale.

Pentax Unilateral Pricing Policy

Perhaps what is happening in this news article, is what is going on with Pentax. Daring to Cut Off Amazon - Yahoo! Finance If Ricoh is in it for the long game, maybe the pricing is to allow brick and mortar stores to compete with online retailers so that they may be able to carry Pentax gear. I could see why a b&m store would refuse to line their shelves with Pentax items if they are constantly being undercut by internet retailers. It appears to be a necessary evil just so that Pentax can get back onto store shelves and start building brand recognition.

I'm in the same boat, but the one advantage of the K7 is that it has an available vertical grip. I do a lot of portrait photography and it's really something that I would want.

AF points are important when doing headshots. I almost always frame in such a way that the eyes are above the top 1/3 of the image. Using the center spot would not make much sense because if I had to focus using the center and recompose, then the eyes/eyelashes would no longer be in focus. This is very noticeable when using a 100mm focal length at f/2.8. In the photography that I do, if the eyes aren't the things that are the sharpest in the shot, it's essentially worthless.

If Pentax goes full frame, will they promote 645 lenses to fill the lens gap?

Questions are not conclusions and Pentax seems to have more 645 lens models in current production than they do 35mm lenses, hence the question. This has nothing to do with Nikon.

Sony isn't Pentax. There's no logic in the correlation that you're trying to make. Nikon and Canon show that faster focusing is possible. What's holding Pentax back in that arena?

How ready is it? Are there production samples that are already being tested on the field? Can you show a comparison of Pentax's new SR and Sony's to show their similarities? Where's the evidence that it's more efficient?

Don't get me wrong. It would be really nice to get a FF Pentax dslr. I would get in line to get one if I was sure that it was coming out. It's just that there hasn't really been any solid clues from Pentax that they are indeed moving in that direction to release a FF dslr in the next few months. It just seems that they are too tight lipped in revealing anything until it's already being shipped to retailers just as it's released.

The biggest thing that I think holding Pentax back on full frame isn't lenses, but it's shake reduction. They must first deal with the technical difficulties of stabilizing a larger sensor. It's going to be a larger mass, and since it has a larger plane, small vibrations will contribute to more movement at the corners. So it's not the cost of a few dollars for larger sensors. It's in the cost of designing a shake reduction system that can complement it.

I don't think that the current line of FA lenses would have too much problem with keeping up with the resolution at the center of the lens. Where I guess that they will have issues are at the corners where most of the vignetting and distortions occur.
