Who has a K-1 and a K3 iii? Opinions / use case / advocacy!

I have both with a similar stance to the above posts, the K3iii is for in flight aircraft and birds, mainly hooked to a 150 - 450, the K1 is for portraits particularly on an 85 F1.4 etc and general use, I also have a Z which is also portraits and glamour / nudes and landscapes etc

I only take what kit I think I'll need so its only ever one camera body maybe with a few lenses

IR conversion

I had a K5ii converted to IR earlier this year, here ( 720nm ) initial lead time was 8 weeks, ended up being 12 because of the filter delays in from the far east. works well and I like it, the benefit with a conversion rather than add on filters is you can use it handheld, but it is a permanent conversion, cost wise was 325, prob more than the camera's worth, but looking on fleabay, I could recoup my outlay and poss a tad more if I decided to sell.

Does the K1 Mark II still make sense to buy today? Is there an Mark III in the works?

Go for a used Ki or Kii and if you work out its not for you, you'll prob recover most of the outlay

"Standard" portrait lighting.

The bigger the SB and the further away from the subject it is, will always give you much softer lighting, you could also try with a second diffuser in the SB ?

Eyecup for 645z (replace rubber part?)

I used 2 narrow and smallish black cable ties around the section that attaches to the 645z, its not tight enough to stop the eyepiece rotating, but is enough to keep it on the camera, so far has kept mine on for over 2 years having like you lost the original and one more.

Need Focusing Tips with Pentax 645z

You'll find you'll need to keep the shutter speed up to the same as at least the focal length of the lens, ideally a bit more, the Z is a big beast, depending on the lenses you have if your shooting wide open ( F2.8 ) the DOF is pretty minimal, I've done better with studio shoots at F8, handheld.

Don't be afraid of upping the ISO the sensor can take it and superb clean images well beyond 1600 ISO

If you focus and recompose, obviously you need to keep your finger on the shutter button otherwise the camera will re-focus on the changed spot or go manual focus as barondia

Question for 645 FA 120 macro owners

I have the 645 FA 120 F4 and couple it to a EM140 DG Sigma Ring Flash with no problems at all, quite often add an extension tube as well when shooting small objects for work.

Finally upgraded my lens

The first few look a tad soft, the last 2 look better, maybe technique with a new and a large and fairly heavy lens, make sure the shutter speed is above ideally 1/500th sec when handholding, a monopod is always useful and hone your technique and you've enough DOF ( depth of field ) to cover your subject.

Buying a Pentax 645Z in 2021

I agree with everything SFPphotography has said, I run a Z with a 28 - 45 / 45 - 85 / 80 - 160 plus a 150 F2.8 for portrait work then chuck on some extension tubes and its a superb macro lens

Jump in with both feet, you wont regret it and its a delight to use.

Defiantly agree, Japan and the USA are good places to look for s/h 645 lenses, although I purchased mine before Brexit so that may hinder things slightly

I used to be able to push or pull the film processing myself at home many years ago, it'll just be in the developer a tad longer and probably wont affect the images very much, better than losing the images completely.
