Tamron 500mm mirror vs. Pentax 55-300 telezoom images & cropped images comparison

A 500mm mf lens will require that you turn the focus ring quite slowly to get the focus precise, and precise focus(due to shallow depth of field) is when the green hexagon will light up!

At f8 the focus indicator will require a very precise focus AND a fairly contrasty subject, and may not lock at all; so do try the magnified live view.

The green hexagon will "light" at different focus distance scale readings on the lens, depending on whether you focus from infinity or close to the object distance; in other words the green hexagon is lit within a "band" of focus- not
at just a single distance/point.

I see focus differences in the pictures, but also it seems the Pentax is generally "sharper".

I don't see a problem on the outside case of this K10; plenty of room for the "gas" to escape; though leaving the repaired body in the "open" for a few days would be a good idea.

The Q has a substantially different body build, so "maybe" you can.

Do plan to document the disassembly/destruction and do a new thread with pictures.

I doubt you will be able to get to it without some "soldering" though.

Pentax used gear market is very low

There are hundreds of Pentax lenses on Ebay, and if you look at each model- prices will vary tremendously- so what is the "market" ? Any given "common" model has many copies to choose from; a "scarce" item
will have one or three- or none. Supply and demand determine the market for sure.

Value of used stuff is not likely 90% of the new price- even for a K3iii, nor is it 50% for such a recent and popular model- so offers to buy or sell such recent/popular models at such prices is not reasonable.
The offer of a warranty by a seller that can back it up is a plus, and worth something; as is a no questions asked return policy.

Just put them on the trader here or online somewhere, at what you think is a fair price and let the buyer decide to buy or make an offer.

Not if you don't agonize over it and just get on with the program; but if you are one of those folks who "can't decide"- I can see it could be a small problem. ;)

Fila,
If you can buy both, then do!
I'd open and use the KP, you might decide you don't "need" a K3III. ;)

KP or K3III

AA batteries are a mixed blessing, the KP has great battery life with the larger grip battery- not so much with the smaller one in the camera. I do recommend the grip.

Spending twice the price on a K3III, with features you may or may not need or like, is not something I'd recommend; by all means for such an investment try to handle both cameras.

I have both and find the KP "handier" and is more than sufficient for my photography and probably for the needs of most other non-pro or near pro photographers. JMHO
I've tried the using K3III- I really wanted to like it- and it just doesn't handle as well to me as the KP.
I voted with my $$, I have three KP bodies; I'd probably only have one if it were not a discontinued model- but I don't want to "run out". ;)

And though the subject has been "beaten to death" I find the lack of a moveable screen on the K3 one of the main reasons I choose the KP 90+% of the time.
I don't enjoy lying on the ground or contorting myself to achieve a view of a subject- but then I'm kind of old . :)
