Not to change the subject but I would be curious as to what legacy lenses are we talking that give the great results.

Where to get poster-size print?

I've used Adorama with success and also Groupon for canvas prints. But for the prints the size you are talking I use Costco because they do really good work with a great price and I don't have shipping costs since I pick it up at my local store. Somewhere I have seen profiles for each locations printer that are updated every 6 months or so. These allow you set you screen to match what will come out of a specific printer.

Thanks for the input everyone. After hearing that the FlashAir app lets you select which photos to transfer I'm going to start there since there were priced attractively on the Adorama site.

Looking for input on sd wifi cards

I've tried to do my research but the various reviews seem wildly inconsistent.

What I want to do, using my K3, is pretty simple. I want to use a high quality, non-wifi card to capture raw in card slot 1. Then I want to use the second card slot to capture web sized jpgs and to be able to look at the thumbnails on an iphone app.

Now the important part. I simply want to be able to tap the thumbnails of the photos I want to bring to my phone and have them transferred. Not formatting, no editing, no special buttons to post straight to facebook, instagram, etc. I just want to select thumbnails and have only those transferred to my phones photo album. Pretty simple.

I don't need to connect to my home wifi, have special cloud storage, etc. I just want to view thumbnails on a phone app, select and transfer. It seems pretty simple. Does anyone have experience with this scenario?

The Toshiba FlashAir 3 seemed pretty promising. The EyeFi products either don't let you select photos or with the new Pro card still make it impractical to select specific photos without jumping through on camera hoops.

Any advice?

I really like the detail and color of that second one. Those intense purples can be hard to capture well.

Pentax 55-300 WR vs Sigma 70-300 APO Macro

I have the pentax lens and a previous version of the Sigma so this may or may not be helpful but thought I would put it out there. The Sigma that I have is the 70-300 F4-5.6 DL Macro rated at 8.92 in the lens review section.

I picked a used version of this Sigma on the forum here and took a lot of great bird pictures. Both stationary and in flight. Like you I wanted more reach and the 50-200 kit lens was not enough. The price was $75 as I recall and is typical for the lens used.About a year later I was able to purchase a new version of the Pentax. Shortly after I took them out to take some pictures so I could observe what was different about them. Here is what I found:

- Photos using the Sigma have a yellowish/green tint compared to the Pentax. I like the Pentax but that is personal preference and in PP you can change the tint/warmth, etc.

- Both feel similar in size and weight to me.

- The Sigma has the Macro feature which I wish the Pentax had. When wildlife was slow I enjoyed flipping the macro switch and fining other things to shoot.

- Both lens seem to hunt at times and for me neither has an advantage here.

When putting on a tripod and taking photos of a Bald Eagle roost a half mile away the Pentax was clearly sharper.

I would be good with either lens but since I have them both I default to the Pentax because it can be quite sharp while the Sigma can still do very well. So for me if it was the difference in $170 new for a Sigma or $285 or so for the Pentax I would hold out for the Pentax. In addition I have seen the non water resistant versions of the Pentax going for $185 or maybe less used here on the forum. So If I only had $200 I would look for a good used Pentax because in my case it was clearly sharper which for bird photography can be significant.

Hope that helps

Try clearing all history and shutting down your phone. Or at least delegating the title and creating a new one.

It could be browser related. I have had pop up trying to take over several times lately. I suspect it just grabs what ever web site is open when it launches. Try closing the pages in your browser, clear the history, close the browser and shut down your phone. When you restart it will probably go away. At least with iPhone.

Reading their Facebook post this sounds like a union trying to get into the game. There are plenty of laws re: safe work conditions and they could report if true. But it is telling they give no details. They slipped up toward the end and tossed out the "justice" card.

Well, kind of like what is the point of using 50 year old technology that get grainy fuzzy images on film smaller than the size of a pencil eraser.

I have an old waterproof to 10' camera that uses 110 film. I'm hoping that comes back someday so I can sell it for some new current equipment.

I'm just kidding mostly. As someone who lived through vinyl, 8mm, 110 film and rotary phones I think most of this is just driven by nostalgia and driven by a younger generation. I doubt there are a lot of baby-boomers rushing out to own this older technology again.

When ever I want the look of old 8mm film I just open my "8mm" Iphone app. It does an amazing job creating the look, feel and if you chose-- sound of the old 8mm movie sound.

I think all things considered I would probably rent the DA 60-250. This would cover most every need. I bet even cropped the 250 would likely equal the uncropped 55-300. Then you get the lower light capabilities and the excellent sharpness. Then I use the DA 18-135 on the other camera as it can be very good in the 25-50mm range. I would also probably carry along a 35mm prime just because they are so light and small.

The downside is it weighs a couple of pounds.

I recently made the upgrade from K50 to K3 and have zero regrets. I find it much easier to change settings and it is such a solid, solid camera. The price is right, make the jump and don't look back.

With a solid tripod I get great results using the 2 second delay which turns off SR and puts the mirror up. I have no issues printing 20x30 with my K50 and certainly not with my K3.

Being "non-profit" make you credible? I'm surprised how many people think that non-profits don't make money. Being non-profit mean you fit business activities into a category that allows you to be tax exempt. One of the restrictions is that you can't distribute profits to shareholders like a corporation. But you can spend lavishly on almost anything as long as it marginally serves the goals of the stated organization. I used to work at a non-profit where our employee bonuses could, and did, equal two months salary. We made profits on what were basically banking activities; loaning money to manufacturing businesses.

Below is a link to test data (resolution) of older K, M and A and few FA lenses. If you scan the data you can see a pattern of top resolution at f8 for almost all of these early lens. You also can see one of the reasons why the K 28mm 3.5 is my favorite landscape lens, especially for stitching multiple photos together. The data on the K 55 1.8/2.0 is also great but I like colors and auto aperture of the A 50mm 1.7.

Some of those old lens still produce outstanding results as many of us know.

I would suggest you use the Q lens and focus peaking together in order to get a feel for it. Zooom wide and use manual focus while pointing it at a plant. Manual focus in and out slowly and you will see the white edges that represent the areas that in focus appear along the edges of the leaves. Once you understand how it works in a situation like this you may have better luck using it with your other lenses.
