Nothing to write home about, but I got the first test roll in 20 years out of an old Yashica A.

I only use a tripod once or twice a year, so I've been tolerating ancient hand-me-down for a very long time.........The head on the old one broke a few weeks ago, so caved and I ordered a "3 Legged Thing" when I saw them on sale the other day.

I really don't need the bells and whistles, so I went with their cheapest model (Patti) and it's really nice for a $95 tripod. It may not have the best head, but it's lightyears ahead of the Sears and Roebuck special that I pulled out my my parent's garage in 1996!

Iíve honestly never had a warm spot for Minolta bodies, but Leica allegedly rebadged some of the Minolta lenses. Hopefully this 24 has the fairy dust.

Pentax ZX-M, SMC-FA 35mm f/2, Arista EDU 200, lab processed and scanned. It started out just being a test roll to make sure the ZX worked, but ended up having the last photos that I took of my dog.

Lens arrived earlier this week, plus I finally got around to shooting the first two rolls since the camera came back from getting a CLA.

We shall seeÖ.

I need to reach out and see if he's even still working on them, but Mark Hama is the go-to on old Yashica TLRs from what people have said in the NegativePositives Facebook group. I'm going to run a roll of Tri-X through mine this weekend to see how bad it is, but the shutter sounds slow to me.

Welcome to Mark Hama Ltd.

I'll likely go in search of a working 6x6 something or other if the Yashica is going to cost me more than $150 to get running.

Eh, it *ist is way less likely to break itself when rewinding film.

My very first zx-m stripped the gears after less than 100 rolls. Granted it took a lot of abuse while shooting in the high school newspaper.

I was down to zero functioning film bodies for a very long time, but I've picked up a few this year.............
  1. Pentax P30T - It was an impulse buy and dig the diagonal split image, but I really haven't used it much since getting cameras #2 and #3 into the rotation. The mirror flap it the loudest I've ever heard on a 35mm and the inability to set the ISO manually sucks when I buy odd/cheap film.

  2. Pentax ZX-M - This is my 3rd ZX-M (since 1997) and I absolutely love these plastic little turds. I have come to terms with the fact that it'll eventually break, but I'll continue to carry it everywhere until then.

  3. Minolta XG-1 - I've had this camera for 20 years and have only ever run two rolls of film through it. I was trying to give it away for months, but decided to ship it off for a CLA and buy a 24mm lens for it..........Less than 3 weeks after the CLA it's picked up a dead insect on the focusing screen and no amount of rocket blowing is budging it. I need to run a couple rolls through it before I decide if I'm going to ship it back in for insect removal.

Not really bodies, but entire cameras with non removal lenses:

  4. Yashica-A TLR - I've also had this one for 20 years and only run a single roll through it, but it's desperately in need of a CLA. I just bought a bunch of 120, so it's the next one to be shipped out.

  5. Argus Seventy - Five - Crummy little point and shoot, but FPP re-rolls 120 onto 620 spools and it was a fun little thing for vacation snapshots with my wife.

I'm also trying to talk myself out of a Pentax 67..........

What do you do when you crack the rear element on your lens?

Those are some surprisingly nice images.

I seem to recall a recent thread with a similar chip out of a lens and the person indicated it was causing some interesting flares when the sun hit it at the "right" angle, but was otherwise pretty OK on APS-C.

Then there is this:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/58-troubleshooting-beginner-help/197570-...ed-lenses.html

I'd think the rear element would be super noticeable, so I suspect it's just outside the APS-C image circle.

I just bought a lovely Rokkor-X 24mm for my MinoltaÖ..

Iíve been working a lot of OT and the CFO hasnít commented on the packages that keep arriving, but I really need to slow down on camera/lens purchases and focus my efforts on a home scanning solution.

I bought a few rolls of Aritsta Edu 200 because they were cheap and the first one just came back from "The Darkroom." I'll probably go back to Tri-X when the Artista in the fridge is used up.

Pentax ZX-M, 28mm, orange filter.

Funny you should mention that.....I've got a sheet leatherette that's waiting for a rainy day (I found all kinds of pre-cut leatherette kits for the XG7, but none for the XG1).

I used to dislike this camera because the meter doesn't come on when it's set to manual, so I never shot anything after my first test roll 20 years ago. I actually had a matching pair with serial numbers that were less than 100 apart, so I sold the other to pay for the CLA on this one.

I'm starting to experiment with street photography and aperture priority seems to be handy, so I may pick up a 24mm for the Minolta. My wife doesn't seem to agree, but I don't own a 24mm lens for my Pentax bodies and I'm convinced I'll keep cameras in rotation if I don't own the same focal lengths for multiple platforms.....

I received a re-acquisition of sorts today. An old hand me down Minolta thatís been sitting on my bookshelf for 20 years came back from a CLA at Garryís Camera.

I also picked up a rope strap for it today. The 45mm F2 is a nice focal length and itís not as noisy as my Pentax bodies, so this one may make it into the rotation for a bit.

9 months ago I didnít have a working film camera, or much interest in shooting film again.

Iím up to 4 now.

I talked to Garry a few months ago and he wasn't able to get the parts at that point. He said he could install parts if I provided them, but probably couldn't guarantee the work if the parts were used.

I'm honestly not 100% certain, but I assume that most of the ZX series shares common parts.

I've not had one apart, but I plan on attempting this fix sometime this winter.

I'm on my 3rd ZX-M and it's going strong, but the first two suffered this issue.

There is a chap in Poland who manufactures brass gears, for various uses, and several people on here have posted the required measurements.

I ordered a couple of the gears a while back and they were ~ $30, but never could find anyone willing to install one for me. At some point I'm going to dismantle one of the broken ones and try the install myself. Basically it involves pressing the new gear onto the existing motor shaft, like people often do with RC cars......

I agree that their rating system often rates very nice lenses at BGN, and I think this sometimes has something to do with desirability. I recently sent them an Auto Sears 50mm F/2 that was practically new, they said it wasn't worth buying and offered me a $20 gift card if they could just "recycle" it instead of sending it back.

About a week later it was listed as BGN for $25, so I figure that's what they do when they realize they're going to have a hard time selling a lens.

That said, I'm trying to talk myself out of a BGN Minolta MD 24mm F/2.8 lens........I ended up splurging and sending my uncle's old Minolta XG-1 out for a CLA and I ordered navy blue leatherette to recover it myself, so it's only logical that I try to fill gaps that aren't covered by my Pentax gear.
