This was nearly 9 years ago my then 9 year old daughter and her younger friend exploring - the B&W gave it that timeless classic look it does so well, and made some of the uglier bits - the wire and concrete, stand out less, or in a less distracting way

I remember thinking - along with many others here, that the specs of the K-1, when released, were a little underwhelming after all the fevered anticipation. Then I bought one... :) :) :)

Yes - I think that Ricoh have been really smart in the creative ways in which they have used the IBIS floating sensor - from dust removal to auto-levelling to re-composing images to astrotracer to pixel-shift - and you can't do most of that without IBIS, which Canon and Nikon haven't had. There are a few minor drawbacks, but that attitude of spotting and advantage that they could evolve into all sorts of unusual or unique features has been , as I say, really smart.

I'm probably a bit weird like that, but I've never had a problem with mixing pretty and ugly, mixed light sources etc - I just see it as another form of pictorial contrast that tells a story - as long as it isn't too distracting which it was in colour - but it was the jarring colour, not the actual structure that was distracting to me. That's just the way I do photography, for better or worse :)

I tend to have an annual cycle - landscapes in the winter; macro in the summer; other wildlife when it presents itself; still life, sometimes when the rain sets in for too long; and street and travel when I, er, travel - but I'm honestly a bit bored by what I'm doing in most of those areas and looking for new inspiration - usually that takes visiting another country, but I'm planning to check back here to see what other folks are up to and maybe get some ideas

Which goes to show that if you're honest, open, truthful and non-antagonistic on PF you'll be treated with the respect you deserve and be replied to in kind - witn oceans of knowledge, technical expertise and user experience thrown in - which is (I hope) not totally unique to PF, but certainly a less known side benefit of being a Pentaxian :)

I think you talk a lot of sense here (the whole post), but there is also the emotional, non-rational aspect amongst some of us - it's like being a long-time supporter of a team - you start to identify with them and get an unrealistic emotional high when they do well and are plunged into despair when they do badly, It's not that Pentax are not doing what they always did ( though they have been quite slow about it of late) - it's just that people (myself included, I have to admit) want to see them back in the premier league where their proud history suggests they should be and sometimes get frustrated. Not rational or hard-headed, just the way some people are - though I do try to stop my personal frustration from spilling over into lashing out and Ricoh or Pentax - or other forum members for that matter - that's not not helpful, as you say.

EDIT - I suppose what I'm saying is that (in sport) the biggest moaners are also some of the biggest cheerleaders when things go right for their team - but yuh - that doesn't excuse choosing to back a low placed team and complaining they don't win all the trophies :)

I think the main reason this wouldn't work is that the vast majority of members don't participate in these discussions - they're either inactive or come here to buy and sell or play games or post pictures - 50 % would be a huge hurdle to climb, however argumentative you are :)

I think you could equally justifiably divide people on this forum into those who believe Pentax can do nothing right and realists - but, of course, both are silly - there is a whole spectrum of opinion here, it's just that people tend to defend what is attacked.

I'm wondering about this - this is ISO 6400 (on the K-1) - I might have done a tiny bit of noise reduction in LR, but not enough to degrade the image - and SR makes slower shutter speeds much more practical (thus was 1/60s at f/2.8 with the 31mm ltd) How low ARE the light levels you are shooting in?

Pentax K-1 Mark II DSLR camera detailed specifications leaked

What don't understand is why the camera, if these specs are real, is worth holding up progress on the older K-3ii for, f that is what has happened. The only upgrades seem to be in areas where the camera was already strong, so the effect will be minor, and all complaints people have (regarding AF, video, shutter shock, fps usb-2 etc) have not been addressed as far as I can see. As I say, it might be worth doing in its own right, but not if it means holding up other more urgent projects.

To be honest, I think too much is being made of this shutter shock issue - I've never noticed any issue that couldn't be put down to other factors (not saying it doesn't exist - I won't argue with other people's experience - just that it's not a major flaw as far as I can see) - and my eyesight is fine.

Here's another baffling explore, for today - I sometimes wonder if they don't just select every nth picture based on some sort of prime number based algorithm - there was no special, interest in this (for obvious reasons) before it hit Explore :D

It will be a good test of Ricoh's information security, anyway :) - enjoy your Z - I've never used one, but the bigger pixels should really shine over the D850 (which I believe to be a great camera in all the ways physics permits) :)

Ironically, that might not be too bad for sales in a small market - people who are serious about what they do are always looking to buy and edge for the exclusivity the extra cost gives them. After decades of being perceived as a value brand rather than a premium brand that might be difficult, but it looks like the direction of travel - even if it requires a slightly different user base.

Odd situation this - well, maybe not so odd - I've been here before: I'm excited about a new FF from Pentax, but I have no intention (read finances :) ) of buying it. I suppose.like a lot of us here, I want to see Pentax releasing increasingly great products - not just because that's the best insurance for current investment levels, but also it's like a football team that you've supported through long lean years suddenly looking like real premiership contenders again
