How to fix this broken tripod head?

I can't really tell what's broken from your picture but I would suggest taking it into a hardware store. We have mom & pop stores around here that repair windows, screens etc. and do all types of other work in house. If it can't be fixed, they could probably tell you. Normally there's usually someone they employ that can repair just about anything that is repairable. Good luck!

Yes, it just seems strange that it happened this close together

Thanks Not, the lens did the same funky thing on a different camera body so I think it's just a coincidence this happened.

It isn't happening to the other lenses that I have, it just happened to the two SDM lenses that I have. I have cleaned all the contacts on the camera body and the lens. It must just be a coincidence that they both went out within two months.

BTW, thanks for you response dc.

I sent in the 16-50 2.8 lens a couple weeks ago to Precision Camera. The viewfinder would blink from MF to AF and the lens would not focus and none of the menus could be accessed. Precision turned the lens around in about two weeks. The repair was $206 and under description of parts used was the notation "Power contact pies assy" was listed. Does anyone know what that is?

Today I went to use my 50-135 2.8 and it started to do the same thing. Does this have anything to do with the SDM? All other lenses work fine, camera is K5IIs. It looks like another lens gets mailed to Precision, I hope this doesn't leak to the rest of the lenses in the bag.

When I put the lens on, I get a flashing in the view finder that goes from MF to AF. The autofocos does not work and the menu and other buttons do not work. I've cleaned the contacts with a pencil eraser and a;so a microfiber cloth but I keep on getting the blinkies. Other lenses work fine, any suggestions to get this working? Camera is K5IIs

Join a camera club and participate in their photo salons. The club I belong to has 8 salons a year and you can submit up to 4 photos for each salon. A judge critiques your photos along with other club member's photos and you can learn more from the salons than any book, photo shoot or community ed class.

Downloading Photos to Lightroom 5

I have recently encountered difficulties when downloading pictures to LR on to my Mac. The card reader is ~1 yr old and in the past, I put the SD card into the reader, LR opens & then I hit "Import Photos" and all pictures show up. Now, I do the same and all that shows up are blank gray rectangles without any photos. I then pull the card reader, shut down LR and re-try. Sometimes it takes 4-5 attempts before the photos populate. Any ideas as to how to fix this?

Where to find interesting subjects?

There's an internet group called Meetup all across the country that has photo related shoots. You may want to see if one is in your area. Also, you may want to look into joining a camera club in your area, they will usually have photo safaris also. I joined a camera club 2 years back and we have monthly Salons with specific topics. You can submit 4 pictures per salon, topic or open, 2 color, 2 monochrome but personally I enjoy shooting different topics b/c it forces you to think of where that subject might be in your town. For example this month's topic is Textures, which I have never thought of or shot so it makes you research the internet a bit and makes you think what to shoot and how to shoot it. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

Just a Ding-Dang mess on my hands

I exported ~20,000 pictures from my PC to a Mac and when I open them in LR5 there is an error message that the new file cannot be moved.

I started deleting files off the PC and inadvertently deleted one that said Lightroom that looks like it took all the old photos out of the library on the PC. Also, when exporting these to the Mac, all of the file names dropped off (they're named on the hard drive of the PC) so there's no name, just a total of 20,000 shots.

There's still another ~30,000 pictures I have to move over and I want to get this first batch resolved before creating an even bigger mess. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

thx in advance

A recent poster relayed the bad news of having his car broken into and his camera gear stolen.

I didn't want to ask in his thread but as one who takes his camera and ~6 lenses in the car all the time I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions to safeguard your gear when leaving the car unattended.

I put the camera bag on the back seat floorboard and it's difficult to see. I have thought of somehow rigging something up with some type of locking system to put in the trunk that would thread through the zipper on the camera bag, then thread through the straps on the bag making it difficult for some miscreant to pilfer what is not his. Or, I wonder if there's any metal type of webbing made that would encircle the camera bag and then be able to lock to an item in the trunk.

I have an opportunity to shoot a minor league baseball game under the lights. There will be pretty close access by the dugout so we shouldn't be too far away from the action. Since it's a minor league park the guess is the lighting will be pretty good--not like the majors but better than Little League. What settings should be used--I'll probably use the DA 55-300 and the DA 50-135 for shots from the dugout out to the field

Lenses for "The Daily Double"
Posted By ok2day

I belong to a golf club where I have taken quite a few pictures and they're going to feature my shots on their website. So, I hit the daily double, I golf and take pictures, two pretty cool activities!

They want to feature a few inside shots, a couple of the new locker room which is darkly lit and a few of the banquet room. The banquet room has quite a few windows that let in a lot of light and I'll probably shoot it during the day when all the tables are set up and the room is decorated. Should I use a flash, should they be off camera, I have the Af 360 FGZ and an old Vivitar 2000 that I can trigger remotely. I'm not sure what lens(es) to use--I have the 10-17, 12-24, 50-135 and also the 15 & 40 primes. Also, should the flash be bounced off the ceiling in both locations--the locker room is pretty dark and I don't know how wide of a lens to use there.

Thx in advance for any suggestions.
